KINDERGARTEN MEET & GREET On Thursday, February 22, at 5 pm, we will have a special Kindergarten Meet and Greet time for students entering Kindergarten next year. We will be explaining our 5-full day program, provide an opportunity to ask questions, and tour the school. Please share this with family and friends who have children entering Kindergarten in the fall. MEATBALLS, ANYONE? The 7 th and 8 th grade classes will be having a Spaghetti Dinner on Friday, February 23. There will be a day of making meatballs for the dinner on Thursday, February 22 at 9 am in the school kitchen. We are looking for volunteers to help make them! If you would be willing to lend a hand, please contact Michelle Torppey at 973.534.7221. SPAGHETTI DINNER The 7 th and 8 th grade classes will be having a delicious Spaghetti Dinner on Friday, February 23 from 5 pm to 7 pm in the gym. The menu includes spaghetti with meatballs and/or sausage, fresh bread, garden salad, homemade dessert, coffee, tea, and cold beverages. Gluten-free pasta is available upon request. Prices are $10 for adults, $6 for children 5 to 12 years of age and those 4 and under are free. Please contact any 7 th or 8 th grade student or call the school office (973.875.5595) to reserve tickets. ATTENTION BUS RIDERS! OEL MEETING MINUTES FEBRUARY 6, 2018 Thank you to everyone who attended our last meeting! There were many new faces and amazing ideas! We allocated $1,100 for Public Relations to use for new marketing as well as $425 for Occupational Therapy equipment. The Original Works art fundraiser raised over $600! We will be having a Walk a Thon to raise money for the school budget on April 20. It s going to be so much fun with new, colorful ideas. Stay tuned!!! Come out to the next meeting on March 20. Orders must be received by March 23. Please see the attached order form for complete details. SCS TRACK REGISTRATION Students in grades 5-8 are welcome to register for the SCS Track team. Registrations will be accepted now through March 9. No late registrations will be accepted. Students are also able to purchase a track shirt at a cost of $25. If your child does not have a shirt or needs a new one, please complete order form on the registration. All athletes must submit or have a valid sports physical. Registration forms (found on the SCS website) and payments must be submitted by the appropriate date. When submitting forms, please place in an envelope marked "Track Registration. Practices will be held at SCS and High Point High School. The schedule will soon be available on the school website with more meets to be added. On behalf of the coaches, we hope your child will consider this awesome opportunity and join the track team! BASKETBALL SEASON WRAPUP The 2017-2018 Stallions basketball season came to a close last week, culminating at the annual awards banquet this past Friday. Our Girls Varsity team, led by Marlene Meyers and assisted by Morgan Meyers and Taylor Berry, finished with an impressive 10-2 regular season record which included an 8-game winning streak and strong victories over Northwest Christian and Sussex-Wantage. They rode this wave into the post-season as the #7 seed at the 38 th Annual Hardyston Basketball Tournament. The Lady Stallions cruised past the #10 seeded Ogdensburg Bears in the opening round 28-19 before falling to #2 seeded Kittatinny in the quarterfinals. A truly amazing season, girls! Our Girls Junior Varsity team finished the season with a record of 5-4-2. The team overcame a relative lack of experience with tons of effort, hustle and heart. The season ended with a 13-10 victory over Northwest Christian School, avenging a loss earlier in the year. Girls Varsity Basketball Award Winners: MVP Offense: Mackenzie Meyers MVP Defense: Sydney Grifone Coaches Award: Ashley Kuperus Most Improved: Anna Torppey Girls Junior Varsity Basketball Award Winners: MVP Offense: Kayleigh Jeltema MVP Defense: Madison Tallamy Coaches Award: Anya Andersen Most Improved: Zoey Torppey The Boys Varsity team, led by Troy Yanoff and Rich Klein with assistance from Zenya Yanoff, finished the season with a regular season record of 7-5 which included a 5-game winning streak early in the year and concluded with 2 strong wins vs. Northwest Christian School and Sussex-Wantage. They powered into the post-season as the #9 seed at the 38 th Annual Hardyston Basketball Tournament. In the opening round, they upset the #8 seeded Ogdensburg Bears 52-48, avenging a heartbreaking 43-40 loss to them earlier in the regular season. In the quarterfinals, the Stallions faced the undefeated and #1 seeded Green Township team and nearly pulled off the upset before falling 51-49. Awesome job, boys! The Boys Junior Varsity team finished the season with a record of 5-6. They raced out to an incredible 5-1 record to start the year and lost a series of tough games to finish the season against some great competition. They learned, hustled and grew close as a team and have a bright future here at SCS!
