School Site Counsel 2/2/15 Introduced everyone around the table Agenda 1. Single Plan for Student Achievement a. Draft number 6 has been sent to the district office b. It has been signed off on c. Charles is going to send around the SPSA draft number 6 to the whole group after the meeting d. Went over the goals of the SPSA and subcategories e. Took out all numbers and changed the wording of the site goals f. No one had any disagreements with the goals g. Josh Oaks will be coming in to talk to our students about social media safety h. As a school site counsel we have looked over the SPSA and agree that it is a working document. We have agreed as a counsel that we have submitted the document and will continue to work on it. 2. WASC Discussion a. Charles is going to email the counsel the WASC document b. April 27 th we are going to have 2 people from WASC visit our school c. On the 26 th the people are going to arrive to spend the whole 27 th in classrooms d. Elwood is going to come and talk to our leadership team e. She will have this report in had in February f. Charles and his team have updated the whole WASC report to contain up to date data i. Charles would like the team to read through the WASC report as a book and would like the team to make sure it does flow ii. He asked the counsel to look over the report over the weekend and give feedback to him. g. The WASC commit understands that we do not have boundaries in our district h. We want to have the WASC report done before April 3. Principal s report a. Charles passed around the applications for murals for some Capstone Projects b. There is just one application for a mural c. The application comes with a map of where they would like to put the mural d. Krystie Jimenez asked about what the school site counsel what we thought about Murals on campus. i. The site counsel agreed that they enjoy having murals around campus because it does give the school a unique vibe ii. One suggestion that was made was that we might run out of space for future art projects.

iii. Another suggestion is that we have students make their art work on plywood so that we can replace art work over the years e. Charles was not sure if the mural was going to be one mural or multiple f. We surveyed parents about athlete parents and many of the students who do not have a 3 rd or 6 th because of athletics we are going to provide tutors at the library i. Meadows is creating an app that students can reserve a spot at the tutoring in the library ii. PTSA is going to help check in students iii. Parents are excited for this especially if the students live farther away and they are able to save money iv. The Library is happy to support the tutoring 3 rd and 6 th v. This is not only going to be open to athletes but all students who don t have 3 rd or 6 th vi. Charles is looking for tutors that will give a cut and he wants to find professionals who can tutor vii. Let parents know that the CCC is open and other areas to allow students to study g. Open House i. Gave a thank you to Trista for Open House ii. Got a lot complements from Open House h. Winter Formal i. People were upset that the exhibits were closed and the students wanted to see more ii. It was a great turnout iii. Meadows, Kalbe was there i. PV vs. Pen Basketball game i. Dedarh talked about how the leaders of both Red Tide and The Zoo had pizza together ii. The Zoo dedicated the game to Noah Furgeson iii. There was a great sense of oneness at the basketball game for Noah iv. A student shared that most of the rivalry is only during the games and any other time there is not much between the schools/students v. We want to keep the One Hill concept going j. PD on Friday i. Teachers showed up even if they were ill ii. A lot of our staff were leading the conversations in their PD groups k. Principal s Advisory Counsel i. Guiding Coalition: sometimes when you want to make a change you need just people to just come and talk ii. Charles had some of his PAC members at the open house

iii. Both students shared what they are doing on campus and what they did at open house iv. Students in PVID wanted to have more show casing them not just the Lip Dub v. Both students shared how every group of students would like to be more evenly shown in the lip dub and other videos 4. Library Design Ideas a. The PTSA allocated some funds for the Library b. They want to start a Library advisory committee to get some student input c. Also survey the teachers about what they would like to see what the Library should look like as well d. Brockman showed some pictures of other school s libraries are doing to show the counsel and take a look at e. A suggestion of bringing this idea up to the PVIT classes to get their input and help design the new Library 5. Counseling and Guidance a. Report cards went out in the mail b. Sophomore counseling is starting the middle of this month c. The scheduling sheets are going out by Friday of this month d. Scheduling is going to start in the third week of this week e. Gold Ribbon Award i. Meadows and Ramirez wrote a 8 page report ii. Model program was building a culture on college readiness f. We also got nominated to apply for an award for ACT in the increased number of students taking the ACT 6. Athletics and Assessments a. PV/Pen basketball this week i. Next week is senior night b. Boys and girls soccer are doing very well c. Boys golf tryouts are coming up d. Girls water polo is doing well e. Lunch time on Wednesday is signing day for any students signing with Colleges f. CAHSEE is coming up g. SBAC is coming up and they are working on the schedule for those students 7. CCC Report a. Junior Jumpstart is going to happen during the testing day i. Will happen the second day of the CAHSEE ii. Juniors will be able to pick one session they want to go to b. College visits are done now c. Four administrators are going to Oregon and they will be going to 6 schools in Oregon: Just got approved d. Oregon is the number one out of state we send to 8. Counselor s Report Counselor

a. Scheduling is ongoing and will start next week b. Hirano talked about going to Rancho and Pen the other week during the loss of Noah. c. 9. Department reports a. No API score this year b. Math: Mitchell i. Focusing on Juniors since they are taking the SBAC ii. They are not tested on the subject it is only the 11 th graders iii. There is a wide rage of math students iv. K-5 is adopting a common core book this year v. Next year it will be middle school and High school will follow after vi. Our math teachers are taking a look at Algebra books to figure out what Algebra 1 next year vii. There was a lot of collaboration between middle and high school viii. The technology piece is still a challenge for the students ix. The state has not released sample test questions for Chrome books c. Art: Jimenez i. Drama 1. Spring play just finished their tryouts 2. Next month will be opening night ii. Photo 1. Two students will be show casing their art in Redondo Beach 2. Student photo show at the Library in March 3. Natasha Wawarski designed and won the cover for music concert in March iii. Kristie went to the 3-D printer conference this past weekend 1. Learned how to use the 3D printer and wants to include that in to a class iv. At PD they talked to Dr. Austin about creating a performing arts center for the Hill to use for the district 1. Spend about 15-20 thousand in renting a year d. Special Ed: Klabe i. Week of finals we did a ribbon cutting at the Life Skills Center 1. Great turn out for the new program 2. We have 8 students in the new program 3. Might have 6 more next year 4. It is designed for students up to age 22 5. This is for the population that does not go into the independent program e. Foreign language: Cecilia i. Open house was very successful

1. Chinese 2. Latin 3. Spanish 4. French ii. Highlight is that we will be offering a 4 year Latin program along with an AP class iii. PD day was great and collaboration went well iv. Both high schools have an ED moto account and sharing v. Many students come from middle school in Spanish 3 f. Science: Scheerle i. Wanted to create an interactive notebook because students like to use them in middle school ii. It looks likes students really cherish them iii. Spend the PD day looking at what this would look like in our school iv. Bio 2 is looking at interactive gardens they had to start it from scratch v. PV science fair is next month 1. We have some great students put in their projects 2. We are entering in 15 in the LA county 3. 15 at PV science fair vi. Galapagos is holding their informational meeting this week at lunch g. Classified: Diane i. New registrar ii. New Principal secretary h. English: Peterman i. SBAC preparation is number one goal 1. Sample essays to be shared 2. Test examples 3. Need to schedule time on Chrome books ii. Digital Library is live and department is looking for ways to use for collaboration iii. Considering cost of all teachers taking AP language prep course in summer to help teach SBAC test 10. New Business a. Meeting ending at 4:35pm
