COURSE SELECTION TEACHERS RECOMMEND ACADEMIC COURSES FOR HIGH SCHOOL USING DISTRICT GUIDELINES THAT INCLUDE: STUDENT GRADES, FCAT/FSA SCORES AND EOC SCORES. PARENTS/GUARDIANS WILL BE ABLE TO REVIEW THE ACADEMIC COURSE RECOMMENDATIONS AND ALSO HELP THEIR CHILDREN CHOOSE THEIR ELECTIVE COURSES. CHANGES CAN BE MADE TO THESE COURSE RECOMMENDATIONS AT THE REGISTRATION MEETING WITH THE NEASE COUNSELOR. (MORE INFO TO COME)
REGISTRATION FOR HIGH SCHOOL HIGH SCHOOL COUNSELORS WILL COME TO ENGLISH CLASSES TO HELP ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS AND REVIEW THE ACADEMIC/ELECTIVE/ACADEMY COURSE SELECTIONS. YOU WILL GET TO SELECT YOUR ELECTIVES. YOU WILL CHOOSE BETWEEN 4 AND 6 ELECTIVES AND RANK YOUR PREFERENCE. CHOOSE ACADEMICS AND ELECTIVES CAREFULLY -THESE COURSE CHOICES ARE USED TO BUILD THE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT AND TEACHER SCHEDULES WITH STATE MANDATED CLASS SIZE RESTRICTIONS IT WILL BE HARD TO CHANGE YOUR SCHEDULE.
HONORS CRITERIA Norm Referenced Test Stanine of 7, 8, or 9 on an appropriate assessment Grades A grade of C or better in the previous honors course. Students earning a grade of A in the previous standard course may be recommended for honors course placement. FSA Level 4 or 5 in appropriate area and not less than a Level 3 in any area PSAT A score of 48 or higher on the appropriate assessment PLAN A score of 170 (English), 210 (mathematics) or higher on the appropriate assessment
DROP PROCEDURES A STUDENT MAY ONLY DROP A SCHEDULED COURSE WITHIN THE FIRST FIVE CLASS MEETINGS IF: THEY WERE INACCURATELY PLACED AND SPACE IS AVAILABLE IN A COMPARABLE COURSE. AFTER THE 5 DAY DROP PERIOD A STUDENT MAY NOT DROP THE COURSE UNTIL THE END OF THE SEMESTER AND ONLY IF THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS EXIST: A GRADE OF D OR F, COMPLETION OF A PARENT CONFERENCE DURING EACH GRADING PERIOD, DEMONSTRATION OF THE STUDENT SEEKING CONSISTENT ACADEMIC ASSISTANCE, AND SPACE IS AVAILABLE IN A COMPARABLE COURSE
TEACHER REQUESTS STUDENT REQUESTS TO CHANGE A SPECIFIC TEACHER(S) WILL NOT BE ACCOMMODATED UNLESS THE STUDENTS HAS PREVIOUSLY RECEIVED A D OR AN F WITH SAID TEACHER. STUDENT SCHEDULES ARE COMPUTER GENERATED TO BEST ACCOMMODATE ACADEMIC RECOMMENDATIONS AND STUDENT ELECTIVE REQUEST FOR ALL STUDENTS. This is a St. Johns County School District Policy and is enforced with very little exceptions.
STANDARD DIPLOMA REQUIREMENTS In order to graduate with a standard HS Diploma, students in Florida must earn a minimum of 24 credits: English 4 credits Mathematics 4 credits (Algebra EOC 30% Must Pass, Geometry EOC 30%) Science 3 credits (Biology EOC 30%) Social Studies 3 credits (World History, US History, (EOC 30%) US Government & Economics) Fine Arts and Performing Arts, Speech and Debate, or Practical Arts 1 Credit Physical Education 1 credit (HOPE) Electives 8 credits Virtual Course (at least one of the above courses must be taken online) Cumulative GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale State Assessment Requirements Must pass required FSA (Florida Standard Assessment) Must pass Algebra 1EOC Must take the Geometry EOC, Biology EOC Must take an EOC if enrolled in Algebra 2 and American History (does not include AP or DE)
DIPLOMA DESIGNATIONS SCHOLAR ALL REQUIREMENTS OF THE STANDARD DIPLOMA PLUS MUST PASS GRADE 11 TH ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS ASSESSMENT STATISTICS (OR EQUALLY RIGOROUS COURSE) MUST PASS BIOLOGY 1 EOC CHEMISTRY OR PHYSICS MUST PASS US HISTORY EOC 2 CREDITS IN THE SAME FOREIGN LANGUAGE MUST EARN ONE AP, IB, AICE, OR DUAL ENROLLMENT COURSE CREDIT MERIT ALL REQUIREMENTS OF THE STANDARD DIPLOMA PLUS STUDENT PURSUING A MERIT DESIGNATION MUST USE ELECTIVE TO ATTAIN ONE OR MORE INDUSTRY CERTIFICATIONS
WHAT IS AN EOC (END OF COURSE ASSESSMENT)? EOC ASSESSMENTS ARE COMPUTER-BASED ASSESSMENTS THAT MEASURE THE FLORIDA STATE STANDARDS. YOU TOOK A CIVICS EOC IN THE 7 TH GRADE. IN HIGH SCHOOL YOU WILL TAKE THE FOLLOWING EOC S: ALGEBRA 1 EOC, GEOMETRY EOC, ALGEBRA 2 EOC, BIOLOGY EOC, AND UNITED STATES HISTORY EOC FOR 30% OF YOUR OVERALL GRADE IN THE COURSE. STUDENTS MUST EARN A PASSING SCORE ON THE ALGEBRA 1 EOC IN ORDER TO EARN A STANDARD DIPLOMA.
