Important 2015 Dates Thursday., Sept. 10 Senior Parent Night @ 7:00PM Tuesday, Sept. 15 - First day to submit transcript requests Tuesday, Sept. 29 Maryland College Night at WCHS Wednesday, Oct. 14 PSAT, Late arrival for seniors. (Great Day to Work on Applications) Tuesday, Dec. 1 Financial Aid Night (Important for You and Your Parents to Attend)
Transcript Review Check transcript for accuracy. Check to make sure your senior schedule is correct. -You were notified of remaining course requirements needed for graduation. Make sure your schedule has those courses. -New transcripts will be generated for schedule changes made since the beginning of the school year. Notify me today of any errors. Notify each college, where you have applied, of any schedule change after the transcript has been sent. WE NOTIFY THE COLLEGES AS WELL.
KNOW WHAT YOUR COLLEGE REQUIRES AS PART OF THE APPLICATION

What you ask others to send Request CollegeBoard and/or ACT send - scores directly to colleges - all scores, unless directed by the college otherwise Request Churchill Registrar send - transcript - NACAC or Secondary School Report -counselor letter of recommendation - school profile Request teachers send letter of recommendation - WCHS teachers will send letters through Naviance edocs to colleges that accept electronic submission. They will not use Common App. or any other electronic system. - Recommenders not employed at WCHS will send letters by U.S. Mail in envelopes you provide or they can send through Common App.

Items to Complete Before MAKING A Transcript REQUEST List your colleges in Naviance Release of Records (Purple Form) Diploma Order (Blue Form) NACAC Form (White)- make sure to sign the waiver College Packet Transcript Request Form (You get this back each time you see the registrar to add more colleges.)
College Packet Self-Evaluation and Resume The College Packet one of the things I will use to write your school recommendation. Advise me of any updates since the packet was completed The packet was due June 30. If not already submitted, it must brought to the registrar when you make the first transcript request.
Sending Your Transcript Turn in all paperwork to Ms. Lantos, the registrar, before school, during lunch or after school. Complete the TOP portion of the transcript request form. List only the colleges to which you are ready to send a transcript, those to which you are definitely applying.
Request a recommendation from a teacher Select a teacher you will ask to write the recommendation. (Ask a second teacher only if a specific college requires it.) Approach the teacher and politely request him/her to write your recommendation. Provide the teacher with an Academic Information Sheet Allow the teacher four (4) weeks to write letters. Provide the colleges DEADLINE. If mailing recs, provide an addressed stamped envelope. Write your name and the deadline on the inside of the envelope flap. Make sure you thank your teacher for the extra effort on your behalf. (She/he is using free time for YOU.)
Request Teacher Recommendations through Naviance
Creating teacher recommendation requests Open your Naviance account Click the Colleges tab Click Colleges I m Applying To Scroll to the Teacher Recommendation section Click Add/Cancel Requests Select a Teacher from the drop-down menu (Add a note, you can request a teacher write for a specific college only.) Repeat as necessary to add additional teachers Click Update Requests
Once a request has been made, the teacher will receive an email notification Subject: New teacher recommendation request From: Steven Student Steven student has submitted a request for a teacher recommendation from you Personal message: Please write a recommendation for American University only Thank you! Note: The Note section is not a requirement. Students can use this section to write a thank you message or communicate to the teacher which colleges they are requesting a recommendation and the reason why.
WARNING If you add colleges AFTER the initial request to the teacher, you must contact the teacher AGAIN to request the recommendations be sent to the additional colleges.
IF YOUR COLLEGE DOES NOT ACCEPT ELECTRONIC DOCUMENTS Provide the registrar with two (2) addressed and stamped envelopes for each MAILED application: One business-sized, addressed to the college with WCHS return address. (one stamp) One large envelope addressed to the college with WCHS return address. (four stamps) Put your name and the deadline in pencil under both envelope flaps.
Deadlines Allow 20 school days for the registrar to process your application and your counselor to write your recommendation. Remember staff is not here during the holidays so turn in all of your requests that have a Jan.1 or Jan. 15 deadline by December 1 st. If you are planning to apply Early Decision or Early Action to a college, please follow the college s requirements and deadlines.
Admissions deadlines Pay attention to deadlines, they are final and vary greatly by college Submit all parts of the application by the deadline Submit components of the application (recommendations, scores, transcript, etc.) at any time, in any order prior to the deadline Check your account with the college to ensure that all required documents have been received. File matching takes time, allow a fourteen (14) days for your account to reflect receipt of documents.
Early Decision, Early Action, Rolling & Regular Admissions Understand your options! Early Decision Binding, if accepted you must go. Only application can be filed early decision. Deposits are usually requested within a few weeks of acceptance. Early Action, Single Choice Not binding, but students may not apply to any other private college s early action admissions; they may apply rolling or regular decision to other colleges. If accepted, student has until May 1 to place a deposit. Early Action Not Binding,you make a decision and deposit by May 1. Rolling Admissions - Once an application is complete, admissions will make decisions, on an on-going, rolling basis; you have until May 1 to make a deposit. Regular Admissions - All applications have a specific deadline, and you have until May 1 to make a decision and deposit.
Step 1: Match Common App to Naviance Go to: www.commonapp.org
Step 2 Open your common app account If you have already created an account, sign in and click go If you have not already created an account click go. Make sure your name and email address are identical to what appears in Naviance/Family Connection.
Step 3 Complete the following Within the Common Application: 1. Complete current or most recent school segment of the education section. 2. Add at least one college to you My Colleges List tab. 3. Read and sign the FERPA Release-Authorization in the recommenders & FERPA section. The expectation is that you will waive your right to view your records.
STEP 4 Log in your Naviance account Click on the COLLEGES tab and then on COLLEGES I AM APPLYING TO Match your Common App and Naviance/Family Connection accounts by entering your email and date of birth then click Match. If all information agrees, your accounts will match and be linked.
ED CANDIDATES If you plan to apply Early Decision (ED) please see your counselor before submitting your application
ALL COLLEGE ACCEPTANCES ARE CONTINGENT UPON SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THE SENIOR YEAR MAINTAIN COURSE LOAD AND GRADES UNTIL THE END OF THE YEAR
