From the Principal s Desk... As Principal of this leading Institution it gives me immense happiness to mention some of the important achievements of this year. Ø After becoming the first college in the country to receive College of Excellence status from the UGC and first college in Maharashtra to receive Star College status from DBT, Govt of India, last year, Ruia College continued its 'strive' towards excellence this year also. This year, the college has added yet another feather to its crown for being sanctioned to establish the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Center for Knowledge Acquisition and Upgradation of Skilled Human Abilities and Livelihood called DDU-KAUSHAL Kendra by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi. The college has initiated skill based Bachelor of Vocation courses in the subjects of Green House Management and Pharma Analytical Sciences under this Center. These courses will be continued for their Master s program and then for PhD in future. Along with this, the college will also continue with the Bachelor in Vocation course in Tourism and Travel Management. Ø As a part of the collaboration with Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, USA, Ruia College has successfully participated in the Campus Pennsylvania program. Through this program, a visit of 40 Ruia students was organized during October 18-26, 2015 led by Ms Urmi Palan, Vice-Principal and Ms. Sujata Suvarnapatki, Associate Professor, Statistics to seven universities in the State of Pennsylvania, USA followed by a visit of 6 Ruia faculty members led by the Principal, during November 9-13, 2015 to seven different universities/colleges of Pennsylvania state. This program offered a unique and helpful insight to the students and teachers into the American education system and opportunities for collaboration on various fronts with them. Ø Ruia College in association with Observer Research Foundation, Mumbai organized two significant programs: Civic Felicitation of Bharat Ratna Prof. C. N. R. Rao and Celebration of 100 years of Einstein's Theory of General Relativity by organizing a lecture by renowned physicist Dr. Spenta Wadia. Ø Ruia students won the Overall Championship at intercollegiate State Level cultural festival Maharashtra Utsav 2015. Ø The process of granting Autonomous status to the college has been approved by University of Mumbai and the UGC final sanction is awaited. The next academic year may see Ramnarain Ruia College functioning with autonomous status. Ø The Ruia library project through the generous contribution of our alumnus Shri अर ण म घ न is about to be completed. Ø Under the leadership of the new Alumnus Vice Principal Dr. Nilan Rane, Ramnivas Ruia Junior College conducted a number of new events and the students brought laurels to the College: The FYJC Science students bagged 1st prize at state level in Science exhibition held at Aurangabad. In the college premises an Intercollegiate Science exhibition was organized and an Intra-disciplinary fest Enriching Minds was organized. Ø Aarti Patil of FYJC Arts bagged two gold medals and one silver while her twin sister Jyoti Patil also from FYJC Arts bagged four silver at National level swimming competition held at Calcutta. Ø Radhika Dharap of SYJC Arts and Aditi Dandekar of FYJC Science bagged gold for the team, and individually three gold and two silver at State level in Gymnastics. Ø NSS team bagged the Best college trophy in Janiv, organized by Sathye College. Ø Ruia Junior College nature club visited various places in Satara and Vaai. Ø Darshan and Sumedh of Junior College were selected in top 10 among 1345 entries from all over India in the prestigious IIT Techfest December 2015. With continued support and encouragement from one and all, Ruia College is confident to scale new heights of achievement in 2016. Report of RCAA for the calendar year 2015 The Jewel of Ruia 2014 programme was held on February 21, 2015. The awardees were Professor Dilip M. Nachane, Chancellor, Central University of Manipur and Professor Ramani Narayan, University Distinguished Professor, Michigan State University, USA. The Chief Guest for the function was Dr. S. Sivaram, CSIR Bhatnagar Fellow, NCL, Pune. From this year RCAA decided to decorate two promising youngsters with the title Rising Star along with the programme of Jewel of Ruia. The Rising Stars awardees were Ms. Vrunda Pathare, Chief Archievest Godrej Archieves and Dr. Chaitanya Giri, Post Doctoral Research Associate, Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research, Germany. On August 15, 2015, RCAA felicitated meritorious students and sports achievers from Junior and Senior College. Ms. Labdhi Vora Academics, S.Y.J.C. Arts Mr. Pratik Mohpatra Academics, S.Y.J.C. Due to late declaration of TYBA results, the topper at TY BA, Mr. Manish Walvekar was felicitated on the occasion of College Day on December 24, 2015. On September 8, 2015, eminent aesthetic Dentist Dr. Sandesh Mayekar delivered a lecture on Oral Care. The Medical Camp for the academic year 2015-16 was held on September 10 and 11, 2015 for the benefit of Junior and Senior College students.
