PONTE VEDRA HIGH SCHOOL NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY BYLAWS I MEETING The regular meeting of the chapter shall be held once a semester. The meeting at 8:45 AM. Sign-in begins at 8:30 AM promptly in the auditorium. A quorum is not required to hold a meeting. Participation shall be measured using other methods. II MEMBERSHIP Membership is open to qualified members of the sophomore, junior, and senior classes. A candidate must have at least a 3.75 GPA with quality points to be scholastically eligible and enrollment in at least 2 honors or AP classes. Membership in the National Honor Society is an honor. In addition to scholastic eligibility, an applicant s leadership ability, service record, and character are also considered. Applicants are expected to demonstrate high levels of integrity, honesty, and dependability. A documented 10 service hours is required for applying sophomores, 20 for juniors, and 30 for seniors. Additionally, paragraphs describing leadership and a service experience are included as part of the application. Three emails should be sent to your advisors by two teachers and one administrator, dean or staff member to confirm that you have no disciplinary record and that you demonstrate the four pillars of the National Honor Society: Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. Faculty and staff should be notified no less than 1 week in advance. The emails should be sent to the appropriate sponsors according to your last name. A-M to Mrs. López- Cortés and N-Z to Mrs. Alonzo. Members who fall below a 3.75 shall be warned in writing by the chapter advisors and Faculty Council. Students will be given one semester to be in compliance with the GPA of 3.75. If the student has not met the enrollment and GPA requirements within that time, he/she will be dismissed. If they are seniors, they have till the month prior to graduation to be in compliance.

Section 4. Section 5. Members who fail to participate in the two yearly, with one for each semester, service projects will be dismissed. New members, inducted in the Spring of the school year, are required to participate in a Spring project and attend the Spring meeting(s). Members who resign or are dismissed are never again eligible for membership or its benefits. III PARTICIPATION Members are required to attend all meetings with Student ID. There will be 3 meetings per year. Additionally, all members must sign up for the electronic communication set up by the officers in order to obtain any information. Any students who miss a meeting must provide an excuse and are required to verify they received the information electronically. A bulletin board will also serve as a tangible reminder to students. Members are required to participate in service and fundraising activities each semester. Total hours are no more than 10 per semester and no less than 5. Members not meeting this obligation shall be subject to dismissal. IV CHAPTER OFFICERS Section 4. The officers of this chapter, in order of secession, shall be president, vicepresident, secretary, and treasurer. The president shall preside at the meeting, oversee all projects and appoint committee chairpersons. The president is the chairperson of the Executive Committee, and shall assist in the collection of dues. A senior shall hold the office. The vice-president shall be in charge of overseeing the organization of all committees, assisting in the collection of dues, and shall review the bylaws at the beginning of the year. A senior shall hold this office. The secretary shall be responsible for recording and distributing the minutes of all meetings, notifying the membership of meetings, handling all correspondence, assisting in the collection of dues, and keeping the membership and attendance records of the chapter. A senior shall hold this office.

Section 5. Section 6. Section 7. The treasurer shall keep all the financial records of the chapter. He/she shall receive and disburse all funds of the chapter and shall keep and accurate account of all receipts and disbursements in accordance with school regulations. A senior shall hold this office. Should an officer s performance be questionable, a member or advisor has the right to bring a complaint against the officer before the Faculty Council. A two-thirds majority of the faculty council shall be required to remove an officer from his/her office. Within 30 days of such a vacancy, a general election shall be held to fill the vacancy. A majority of the votes cast shall be necessary to elect any officer of this chapter. Election of officers shall be held at the last meeting of the year, with the results tallied and announced and the leadership transferred before the terminus of the meeting. V EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE The executive committee shall consist of the officers and chapter advisors(s). The executive committee shall be responsible for the general supervision of the affairs of the chapter between its business meetings, make recommendations to the chapter, and determine and perform such other duties as necessary. All actions and recommendations of the executive committee shall be subject to the review of the chapter membership. The executive committee shall have the responsibility for ensuring that chapter activities and procedures follow school policy and regulations. VI FACULTY COUNCIL The Faculty Council shall consist of four voting faculty members selected by the Principal. The term of the Faculty Council shall be one year. Members may be appointed to consecutive terms. The chapter advisors shall be ex-officio, non-voting members of the Faculty Council.

Section 4. The Faculty Council shall meet at least once a year to select members and to consider dismissal and non-selection cases. VII THE PRINCIPAL The Principal shall reserve the right to approve all activities and decisions of the chapter. The Principal shall annually appoint the chapter advisor(s), who may serve consecutive terms. The Principal shall be a part of the local school district appeal process for non-selection or dismissal cases. VIII DUES AND FEES Annual dues for each member shall be $20 for new and returning members. All fees of returning members shall be paid at the start of the school year. New members shall pay all fees before the induction ceremony. Members not meeting this obligation shall be subject to dismissal by the Faculty Council. If they are seniors, they are automatically revoked for not demonstrating interest in society membership in their graduation year. IX SERVICE PROJECTS Chapter members shall provide service to the school as requested by the Principal. The chapter shall recognize all members of the faculty, administration, and support team at an annual breakfast. The chapter members shall determine at least one additional group service project per semester. X SCHOLARSHIP NOMINATION

Each year a senior member may be nominated by the Faculty Council, in conjunction with the guidance counselors, from among those identified as eligible by the chapter advisor(s), to compete in the NHS Scholarship Award Program.
