Recalling Kamakshi, the brilliant lovable Lecturer Reader The Shaheed Bhagat Singh fraternity expresses its intense grief and deepfelt sense if loss at the tragic and untimely passing away of Ms Kamakshi Trehan, Reader in Mathematics and the seniormost lady academic of the college, on October 24 1993. Born on December 4, 1946 and educated in DTEA School and Ramjas College in the Capital, with specialization in Mathematical Topology, Kamakshi s student career was, marked both by cultureprizes, and by academic brilliance that secured her two top University of Delhi positions : second in BA Mathematics Honours in 1966, and fourth in MA Mathematics in 1968. Joining the college as lecturer on October 26, 1968 she used her culturetalents, especially in vocal music, and her creative skills in helping develop cultural traditions of the college, having been President Fine Arts Society in 1968 1969 itself. A dedicated academic, she was member of the University s Faculty of Arts form August 7, 1982 to August 6, 1985 and was Member Faculty of Mathematical Sciences since August 7,1991. Warm, friendly and ever gentle, Kamakshi endeared herself to one and all and her loss is indeed an irreparable one. May the departed soul rest in peace and my God grant her husband Dinesh, son Amit and daughter Parul and other loved ones courage to hear the great loss. Kamakshi, along with Department of Mathematics founder Prof R R Chowdhry, steered the Department through the challenging formative years. Later, Indra Chopra ( nee Khattar ) joined, as did Dr Kulanand Sharma and Ms Darshan Kumari, all of whom have been inspired by Kamakshi s brave, brilliant ways and have kept the Maths banner flying high. The College awards Kamakshi Trehan Gold Medals to DU / College toppers at every Annual / College Day.
