BERRY PRIDE Certified One aspect of our College and Career Readiness initiative is the Work Ethic Certification that begins in 5th grade. Earning this certificate is a way for students to demonstrate that they possess the soft skills needed to be successful as they enter post-secondary institutions, apprenticeships, the military, or the workforce. Students receiving the Work Ethic Certificate will have been measured in nine areas of academic and work ethic competency. There are five subjective PRIDE measures: Persistence, Respectfulness, Initiative, Dependability and Efficiency. High school seniors must also complete 6 hours of community service have a GPA of 2.0 or higher meet all graduation requirements, have an attendance rate of 98% and no more than 3 times tardy have one or fewer discipline referrals for the year. We ve partnered with businesses in the local area who will honor the Work Ethic Certificate and it is recognized across the state. LHS is pursuing the Early College High School model to give our students a head start on the rest of their lives. Students successfully completing Early College will graduate from LHS with an associate s degree, allowing them to transfer to another post-secondary institution with two full years of college complete.
TraditionsFrom the state s oldest known high school mascot to our Senior Graduation Walk, we re proud of the memories and milestones our students achieve. Logansport High School is home to one of Indiana s most recognizable high school mascots. Our newest tradition is the Senior Graduation Walk. Graduates in their caps and gowns walk the halls of their elementary and middle schools getting cheers and high fives from former teachers and future Berry graduates. We re proud of all of our facilities, especially McHale Performing Arts Center, which opened in 1976. In addition to performances by our school bands, choirs and theatre students, it hosts touring artists and other community events. Felix the Cat celebrated his 90th anniversary representing the Logansport Berries in December 2016. Logansport High School sports teams officially became known as the Berries on Oct. 3, 1955, though the nickname Loganberries can be traced back to 1922. Felix became our mascot in 1926 and when a new gym was built for the old high school in 1927, the name Berry Bowl was suggested.
LCSC is proud to be home of the 2017 Indiana Teacher of the Year! Ms. Jitka Nelson has been part of the LCSC staff since 2004. She was named LCSC s Crystal Berry winner for 2015-16 and went on to earn the top teacher title for the entire state. As an English teacher at LHS, Mrs. Nelson works with English Learners, and is a star among our many wonderful teachers. The Victory Bell rings after a Berries win at home. It is from a steam locomotive and was presented to LHS in 1952 by Pete Noll of the Pennsylvania Railroad. Many proud LCSC alumni are part of our faculty and staff. Each year, we honor individuals who have distinguished themselves through outstanding accomplishment on a local, state, or national level of prominence. They are included in our Hall of Distinction located in the main entrance at Logansport High School. Our high school athletic facilities are second to none. Turf fields were installed at Berry Stadium, Turner Field and Fincher Field in 2015. An auxiliary gym, weight room, swimming pool, tennis courts and gymnastics facility and of course, the Berry Bowl, offer countless opportunities for our students.
