Welcome to Junior Bible Quiz! South Texas District of the Assemblies of God Church Ministries and Discipleship Department The goal of Junior Bible Quiz is that children will memorize the Word of God, understand its teachings, and be equipped to share the gospel with their friends. It gives them both the tools and the motivation to learn to read and study the Bible on their own. The Junior Bible Quiz program in the South Texas District of the Assemblies of God is available to all young people from 1 st through 6 th grades. Junior Bible Quiz (JBQ), now in its 18 th year in the District, covers 576 Bible Fact Pack questions ranging from basic Bible facts to deeper Spiritual truths. JBQ is geared for kids in 1 st through 6 th grades, but the information learned through studying these questions would challenge a Christian of any age. These young people are challenged to study the Word by using their natural competitiveness as an incentive. Churches set up teams of quizzers to compete with one another to see who can best recall what they have studied. This quiz year there will be six area competitions from October through April. Twenty questions are asked in each game with three levels of difficulty. The team with the most points wins. Competition is held locally, but also allows for a playoff system that crowns a national champion. Please feel free to contact Shaenelle Johnston at 713-455-1221 or churchministries@stxag.org with any questions. Our goal for quizzing in South Texas is to teach young people that God s Word is personal, that Jesus Christ is a real part of their daily lives, and that He desires a relationship with each one of them. In His service, Rev. Tammy Calderon South Texas District of the Assemblies of God Church Ministries and Discipleship Director

Additional teams may not be added past this deadline. This deadline is necessary to allow coordinators time to prepare adequately. TO QUALIFY FOR DISTRICT FINALS Teams will qualify for District Finals by participating in at least 1 practice meet and 2 qualifying meets. The three District sponsored qualifying meets are the January, February and March Area League Meets.

Additional new quizzers may be added to teams, but must be registered in order to be eligible for District Finals. FOR CHURCHES WITH MORE THAN ONE TEAM: Team rosters can be changed for each meet in November and December. Team rosters submitted for the January League meet must remain frozen for the February and March League meets. Quizzers can move up from lower divisions at District Finals, but can t move down without permission of the League and District Coordinators. Any questions or appeals to these guidelines must be made in writing to the South Texas District Church Ministries and Discipleship Director and JBQ Coordinator. The recipient of the completed Bible Master Award will receive a letter of congratulations with the seal. This can be obtained, free of charge, by submitting the award form on the National JBQ website: http://kidmin.ag.org/jbq/jbqbiblemaster/. Please fax (417-553-9544) or email (jbq@ag.org) the award form to the Children s Ministries office. Please allow up to four weeks for processing. NOTE: the easiest way to test for each level of the Bible Master Award is by using the online Bible Fact Pak Question Set Generator: https://biblefactpak.com.

Beyond the Bible Master Beyond the Bible Master Award is an award program for quizzers who have earned the Bible Master Award and are ready to go beyond to reach the next level or mastery. Bible Quoter: Quizzers must correctly answer all 95 quotation questions (107 verses) that have been randomly selected from the Bible Fact-Pak. The process for generating questions for the Bible Quoter is the same as above. When selecting the set of questions from www.biblefactpak.com, be sure to select the Bible Quoter option. Bible Excellence: Quizzers must correctly answer at least 571 randomly selected questions from the 576 Bible Fact-Pak questions. This is the only test that does not require a set generated from the biblefactpak.com. The easiest way to administer the Bible Excellence exam is to use either the Study Guide or the Bible Fact Pak (verifying all question are present). The person administering the test should randomly ask all 576 questions in one sitting. Study breaks are not permitted once the exam begins. Award Application: http://kidmin.ag.org/resources/jbq/jbqawardsform.pdf TESTING INSTRUCTIONS Bible Master or Beyond the Bible Mast Award In order to test for the Bible Master Award levels an approved tester should log in to the free Question Set Generator (www.biblefactpak.com) and then head to the page to generate questions. Select Bible Master Awards options then select the title that matches test being administered. A new set of questions that meet the national criteria will be generated. At no time should the quizzer be allowed to study from or review the set of questions that have been generated for testing. Each quizzer should have a uniquely generated set of questions prepared for their testing. Quizzers will be asked questions in the same fashion as if they were in a quiz match, but they are not required to activate any equipment or be identifier before responding. Their response should be evaluated using the same criteria used in a quiz match (for details please see Section 4 Before the Quiz Meet in the official JBQ guidelines). The person administering the test must not be an immediate family member to the person being tested. Breaks, for study, between the first and the last questions are not allowed. DISTRICT FINALS Trophies for first, second, and third place teams in each division, as well as the top ten individual high scorers in each division will be awarded. The top four teams at District Finals in AA (Level 3) automatically qualify for the South Central Regional Finals and the top team receives the automatic bid for the National JBQ Festival.

Getting Started 1. Introduce Your Church to Quiz Have parents, teachers and children try some of the quiz materials at home, as a supplement to another activity, or in the classroom. 2. Recruit Adult Sponsors For each organized quiz team, you will need two or three adults. One of these will serve as coach who will lead practice sessions, encourage and challenge quizzers and train adults to serve as officials. Other adults will be needed to serve as assistants, drivers, and/or officials. 3. Recruit Team Members Ask permission to present the idea of quiz during Sunday school classes or even to the adults in a Sunday worship service. Have sample questions available to those interested and present quiz as an exciting way to have fun and exciting Bible study. 4. Register Your Team Contact the District Church Ministries and Discipleship Department office for information on registration and Leagues in your area. The phone number is 713-455-1221 or online at www.stxagchurchministries.org. 5. Order Supplies Study materials are available from Gospel Publishing House or My Healthy Church. You will also want to consider an electronic quiz box for practices and for bringing to League competitions. A list of quiz equipment manufacturers is included as well. Most boxes range from $250 to $400, but remember that this expense will be applied for more than one year of quizzing. 6. Begin Practicing Quizzing is a structured Bible study program. Set aside time each week to meet with the quizzers and practice the questions with them. Need more information: visit the National JBQ Website: http://kidmin.ag.org/jbq/growone/. How to Host A JBQ Meet Thank you for agreeing to host a JBQ Match at your church. These guidelines are a collection of our experience. These are by no means mandatory - -these are just guidelines. If you have any questions, please call your league quiz coordinator. One month prior to the meet you are hosting, we need to provide a map and/or directions for teams who are traveling to your area. If your league includes teams that are from out of town, please provide a listing of nearby hotels. The following rooms need to be set up prior to the morning of the quiz meet, if possible. Orientation Room: We will need one room where we can meet in the morning before quizzing and in the afternoon after quizzing. This should be big enough for all quiz teams, coaches, officials, parents, and spectators. This can be as large as 8-12 people per team. A sound reinforcement system is not required, but is helpful in larger rooms. Contact your league coordinator to see how many teams are expected to attend this session. Scores Room: We will be tallying scores during the day. We need a desk or table. This should have an electrical outlet nearby, in case we are setting up a computer and printer. Quiz Rooms: Quiz rooms need to have three tables with chairs--two tables with four chairs for quizzers, and one table with three chairs for officials. A podium or music-type stand is desired. There needs to be at least four chairs behind each quiz table for coaches, substitutes, and helpers. Some teams have spectators who will want to see the action. Most quiz boxes have less than 12' electrical cords that need to be plugged in. If the tables are not near outlets, we will need extension cords. Contact your league coordinator to see how many quiz rooms are needed. Lunch (optional): This keeps the quizzers at the facility and keeps Quizzing on schedule. Be creative! It's nice to have something different. Keep it simple. We are serving primary-aged children--they can be messy. Someone can collect money and get a head count two weeks prior to the event. This can be a great fund-raiser for one of your departments. Please try to keep the cost below $5. Here are some ideas of what others have provided: Cold cuts Nacho Bar Soup and sandwich Fried chicken Potato Bar Hot Dogs Pizza Lasagna Tacos Chili or Soup Spaghetti Salad Bar Closing Ceremony: While final tallying is in progress, we are asking the host churches to buy some time by having a short closing rally just before the Award Ceremony. This would consist of 3 praise and worship songs and a quick 5 min devotional or object lesson. This would also help the kids remember that the B comes before the Q in JBQ. Clean-Up: Let us know what we need to do to help restore your facility. We recognize that most churches do not have a maintenance staff to restore on Saturday afternoon for church on Sunday. If we can move tables and chairs, it helps to have a map or an inventory (count) of what to leave in the room or move to the hall.
