Part A The Plan of action chalked out by the IQAC in the beginning of the year towards quality enhancement and the outcome achieved by the end of the year. A. On the basis of the assessment report and the experience gained over the years in attempting to implement its suggestions the year 2010-2011 began with the following orientation as to guide the life of the institution and its improve quality of learning and teaching: 1. It was felt that utmost priority had to be given towards enhancing the quality of the teaching faculty as to ensure their self fulfilment as well as commitment on which alone the future of the institution could be built. Hence fort as far as possible we shall appoint faculty members qualified as per the UGC norms. To facilitate staff performance should be given accommodation in the campus itself. To recruit better staff wide publicity will be given in the newspapers and in the website. 2. We shall strive to encourage research and publication among the faculty members and does the quality of the institution will improve. 3. To expand the Departments in the college and to accommodate various need and interest of the students we will develop infrastructure in order to house a departments. 4. College shall re-scheduled its time table and the division of syllabus with the changing system of the University from annual to semester system. 5. As per the recommendation for Quality Enhancement of the Institution we shall set up a Women Cell to prevent any sexual harassment as well as to address the grievances of women students in the campus. 6. We proposed to invite scholars from outside the country to widen the scope and interest of the students and faculty.

B. An assessment of the year 2010-11 reveals that: 4 1. As we had visualised the quality of the teaching staff most of the newly recruited assistant professors fulfilled the requirement of UGC in order to be a lecturer in the college. Selection of lecturers post vacant were held with the representatives of University. 2. College managed to published and released the first book from the college. To improve research activity various departments organised seminars and the lecturers were able to publish articles. 3. There were two important professors from abroad and delivered lectures and interacted with staff and students and also campus interview was held in the college. And various exchange programmes were held. 4. To facilitate increase demand of various departments and expanding the college a new library hall and BCA class rooms were inaugurated within this period. Upgraded the Department of BCA course to Degree second year from the academic session 2010-2011. Part B 1. Activities reflecting the goals and objectives of the institution: o The Governing Body meetings (2/3 times a year) IQAC meetings (twice a year) College Staff meetings (once a month) and regular local council and religious staff meetings are the mainstay by which the College seeks to fulfil its goals and objectives as specified in the college calendar and annual plan divided into two semesters with the arrival of the semester system. o Inauguration function of Academic session 2010-11 was held on 1 st July with the presence of Rev. Fr. Sebastian Rector, Rev Fr. Benny James Principal, Sr. Rose Mary Kazhii-a Vice Principal and the staff of the college. o Dr. Martin Kasper, assistant direct Accenture from Germany and Professor. Rene Diaz Hormazabal of Universidad Catolica Silva Henriquez visited the college and delivered lectures. Hosting and Organizing s and workshops are a means by which the status of the institution as a higher education centre is gradually coming to be acknowledged in the locality, the university and the region. o Spiritual Retreat for the Christian and Religious students is an annual feature and this year it was conducted within the campus in the month of October 8 th, 9 th and 10 th, for all the students. They were accompanied by staff members. o College holds study tour, field trips, college level seminars, state level seminars, guest lecturers, workshop, work on common project like musical opera, peace concert and production of Album.

5 o The institution has extension activities through 3 NSS units, LEAP (Learn Effectively and Pro Actively) Campus Ministry (CM), all India Catholic University Federation (AICUF) Rovers and Rangers, Smile (Students Mobilization Initiative for Learning through Exposure). Bosco Vocational Training Institute (BVTI) conducts skill training programmes: Bosco Institute of Information Technology (BIIT) conducts regular computer courses; Human Resource Centre (HRC) initiates spoken English classes, ITES and BPO training programmes, Soft Skills, Leadership, and personality Development and career guidance. o A two/three days Orientation programme was organised for the staff at every beginning of the academic session of the college. This year it was held on 29 th 30 th June 2010. o To enhance the capacity building of the students and then skill them with leadership qualities and organisational abilities the college introduced Campus Ministry in January 2010 and AICUF (All Indian Catholic University Federation) in 2 nd November 2009. These groups and moments enable the students to cultivate leadership qualities and enrolment them in the neighbourhood social commitment to poor and the under privilege. New academic programmes initiated (UG): The New system of Yearly University Examination for degree course was introduced into Semester wise Examination from the academic session 2010-11. BCA (Bachelor of Computer Application) Degree Second year course was introduced in the year 2010 in the college with approval from Manipur University. Upgrading of Economics and Education Honours for the Degree third years. The Proposal of BSW has been submitted to the University for initiating a new department in the college. 3. Innovations in curricular design and transaction: a. The Career Oriented Programmes have been inserted into the regular day s schedule as to enable the student cope with all four of the programmes offered during the year. Skill training programme such as BPO,DOEACC, DTP, ITES. b. The Remedial classes for the weaker students have been scheduled in the beginning of the year before the honours classes proper begin. c. Orientation programme for the Degree first year was scheduled every beginning of the academic session. 4. Inter-disciplinary programmes started: o With the introduction of the semester system the students were encouraged to take subjects of their interest which they have not opted for the university studies could be offered by the IGNOU and the expand the base of their knowledge. 5. Examination reforms implemented: The Introduction of the Semester Examination System has brought in a time bound teaching schedule especially in the first year. Various departments were asked to divide the semester syllabus into two units according to the tri-monthly internal examinations. Weekly examinations of the various subjects were introduced. The exams were held in each semester and besides, each department was encouraged to do continuous evaluation and assessment of student performance. The practice of student learning through self study and assignments, as well as student seminars has been undertaken by the different departments.

The Visit of the four member volunteers of Don Bosco, a lay institute Dr, Gama, Ms. Mary, Ms. Pauline, and Ms Shila accompanied by Rev Fr. Guria Nestor sdb (Vice Provincial) was an occasion at which the staff could share their experience on the campus and make suggestions. On the penultimate day they were addressed on the Salesian Characteristics of Higher Education. The occasion of the visit of Rev James Poothurithil sdb,provincial addressed the staff and students emphasizing the Role of Educative Community in the formation of Individual.

The visitation of His Grace, Archbishop Chinnappa sdb of Madras Mylapore, addressed and encouraged the students to aim higher and strive to achieve the goals. He also performed a piece of music. Survey on literacy at neighbouring villages was done on 20 th December 2010. o The Department of Chemistry conducted Extempore Speech competition as part of their departmental activity. o Journalism for social Action Journalism for social Action was organized by Rev. Fr. Benny James sdb the Principal. Rev Fr. Tarcisuis Toppo sdb the media co-ordinator of the Province of Dimapur took much care to teach our students on various fields on journalism. From then onward the young journalist were reporting every event of the college. This was the outstanding programme for the young journalists. o The Campus Ministry co-ordinator Sr. Margaret Barla FMA has organizes two days programme at Maram Khullen for the youth. o The Film Festival was organised by Rev. Fr. Benny James sdb the Principal of the College alone with the Campus Ministry association for the preparing of the arrival of Don Bosco relics. o NSS Unit I of the college had a awareness programme alone with 22 nd Assam Rifles. o Mr. Subhash and his team from Imphal DOAECC centre conducted mock exam for the students. o A one day residential camp on the theme Youth for better Ecology was organised on 3 rd to 4 th September Sir. John Pasii was the main resourse person on the one day camp. o A voluntary blood donation camp was held in our college by NSS. 116 students of the college donated their blood in the camp. o A project plan on 17 th Sept 2010, the department organised a debate competition in HRC hall in which various other department took part. o On 23th September 10 inter departmental folk song competition was organized the history department. It was participated by 7(Seven) departments.

10 o The department of Physics conducted class seminar, shows science related documentary films based on formula derivation, origin of universe, life history of Albert Einstein etc. The students used power point presentation in their class seminar. 2011 o The Department of Computer Science conducted class seminars through power points presentations. Sr. Daisy Mol the programme Officer of Unit 1 participated in the course- held at DBI Guwahati. o The Campus Ministry and Jesus Youth organised a three day residential leadership training programme. o Five students alone with Mr. Christopher a lecturer of our college in History department participated in the training programme at DBYS, Bariatu, Ranchi o The first phase of residential leadership training programme was conducted in the college for members of Campus Ministry and Jesus Youth. o Third year students of Chemistry Department had a class room seminar on the topic Environmental Chemistry. o The Department of English organise a remedial classes on Basic English Grammar for students of Class XI from 30 th Nov 2009 to Feb 2010. o Two days seminar on Modern Literary Theories was conducted at the lecture hall of the college on 2 nd of Feb. 2010. Research is encouraged among the staff and students. Staff by means of participation in research seminars and in being encouraged to write for the local press and journals.

The students of the final year do an academic research by way summarizing their whole years studies attempting to integrate it with other activities as a final report. The students in the final year have a research project to be submitted as part of their curriculum and this is monitored by the staff and presented for evaluation to the external examiners. 11 10. New Collaborative Research Programme: The College in collaboration with the Dialogue and Peace Committee of the District has promoted the awareness amidst the civil society and educational institutions in preserving hominy and promoting peace in the area. This venture is being proposed as joint collaborative venture for the future given the volatile nature of the civil society in the hills. 12. Community services: The Outreach Youth Services under the leadership of Fr PO Sebastian has increased the spread of villages reached out to over the years to touch 5. The inter youth centre programmes like Collaborators Meet, Cultural Exhibition, Zonal Sports Events, Youth Mass have been events of much fanfare. The clubs have planned their activities for the year and they are marked on the college calendar. The Clubs Literary, Sports, Computer, Music, Harmony, - did various activities like organizing Music Talent show, intra and inter college tournaments, computer contests, literary wall magazines and interfaith prayer sessions. Various group such as Jesus Youth, Campus Ministry, AICUF, NSS volunteers, Don Bosco Alumni, have reached out to villages such as Maram Khullen, various traditional village, Ramlong, New Maram, Maram Centre, Maram Bazar w3ith health awareness camps cleanliness drive as special tuition coaching for weak students of primary school to High school. On a daily basis as well as on Sundays in special way. The NSS programme officers took part in the Adventure camp conducted by the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering in Utarkasi. Members of Jesus Youth went to Maram Khullen for their Apostolic Ministry in order to imbibe in them the values of Christ. Jesus youth members had their TEENS MINISTRY to the village named NEW MARAM. The students of DBC Maram animated the Sunday service with their song and acting out the gospel passage with the theme FORGIVENESS. Thereafter teens of the villages were gathered and conducted the session to help them to come closer to God.

Selected members of Jesus Youth went to SHILLONG FOR LEADERSHIP PROGRAMME in order to get trained themselves about being a leader for Christ. It was arranged in the National level and they had various sessions and activities like healing Adoration, personal prayer, group discussion. 16 th OCTOBER 2011: Members of Jesus Youth had their OUT REACH PROGRAMME to MaramBazar. Courses in which student assessment of teachers is introduced and the action taken on student feedback: At the end of each Semester the students make an overall evaluation of the Semester. Each honours subject teacher is evaluated at the end of the course and the feedback thus given through the questionnaire is made available to the teacher concerned for further improvement and/or necessary action.

Computerisation of administration and the process of admissions and examination results, issue of certificates: For admission purpose the prospectus is printed annually. The admission details are made known through the website as well as advertisement in local newspapers. The yearly examination results are made available and promotion test and selection test marks are send to the parents of the students. Felicitation programme for the Rank Holders of University Examinations are conducted annually. The student data recorded in personal files and the statistics are preserved in the office computer. 26. Increase in the infrastructural facilities: Purchase of Computers for the offices, staff rooms and replacement of parts for up gradation of machines in the student labs have been done. The College administrative offices are in the process of being fully computerised. The IGNOU office has been furnished with Xerox machine as also photo copying facility provided to students and staff from the reception. The Library, and Departments are also computerised. A mini hydro power station is being set up to meet the electricity requirements of the college. 27. Technology Up-gradation: V-SAT technology of the Hughes Company has been availed to provide Internet facilities to the offices, the departments and the students. As stand by there is also USB Modem facility on campus in emergency. The Telephone landline system having encountered problems is presently served by Wireless Loop system and the numbers have thus been changed. 28. Computer and internet access and training to teachers and students: Computer and Internet is easily accessible to Teachers and students and Training provided to both by the staff of the computer department. The service is also made available to external candidates who seek skill training. Internet facilities are openly provided to both the students and staff of the college. ITES/BPO course are provided to the students every year. 29. Financial aid to students: o 53 deserving students have been provided the financial aid for their studies in the past year. The financial assistance was from Don Bosco Provincial House as well as Heinz Lutke foundation Germany and Kinder Mission. o Tea Garden employees wards get assistance from Employee s Association. o Some students avail of the Tribal and Scheduled Caste s Welfare Department scholarships. o AIACHE scholarship is made available to two Christian students from the SC/ST and general category respectively.

15 o All the students avail themselves the ST scholarship o Few students who applied for minority scholarship were also availed these scholarship. 30. Activities and support from the Alumni Association o The alumni association collaborated with the students and staff in organizing the Independence Day Programme 15 August 2011 at which nearly all students participated. The Independence Day Celebration was thus marked as an Alumni Day and occasion for the local population to experience their identity and express their national sentiments. o Alumni organized the Rex Band Kochi which was very big event for the entire region of Senapati. 31. Activities and support from the Parent-Teacher association Parent attend on Annual teachers meet for year was held in 5 September 2009. The parents were intimated about the progress of activities in the college and special cooperation was requested for the active participation of students in the career oriented programmes. 32. Health Services The college infirmary caters to the emergency medical needs of staff and students. The local health centre, private clinic and Doctors are availed of in case of need. The Assam Rifles Medical team Hospital were also at the service of the college. The District Medical Authorities conduct annual medical camp in the month of September. 33. Performance in Sports Activities: Students Participated at the Inter College sports events conducted by the University. Cricket and Basketball matches are organised regularly by the college. Sports activities are regular on the college campus with inter batch tournaments in outdoor and indoor games. Students participated in the Manipur University Youth Fest and they got first and third prize for Debate, Speech competition second prize. 34. Incentive to Outstanding Students: The Oil India company organised a extempore competition. Four students from Don Bosco College got 1 st, 2 nd, 3 rd and one consolation prize. The college gives awards to the best students in various fields: study, attendance, sports, literature, essays and debates, cultural programmes, etc. The Awards for the Year were given away on the occasion of the College day celebrated on 17 July 2011. Nine NSS volunteers alone with Sr. Jaya from the NSS Unit III were selected for Interstate Youth Exchange and Home Stay Programme. 5 th 14 th Aug 2011. Thirty nine students from the college accompanied by Ms. Jeanpuliu Kamei were selected for mountaineering training programme at Imphal. 14 th Oct 2010. Forty two students from Jesus Youth took part the Jubilee celebration in Kerala. Twenty five students were selected for special mission to Arunachal Pradesh. Twelve students from the college took part the 12 th state level Accountancy exam organized by Manipur University department of Commerce.

Student achievement and awards: Two students from the college took part a debate competition held at Imphal organised by army, beg the second prizes Twelve students from the college representing the Fr. Bianchi (volley ball) Tournament (volley ball) and got 1 st prize. The Annual memorial tournament of Fr. N V which was held on 6 th November. The students got second prize. Students participated in the Manipur University Youth Fest and they got first and third prize for Debate, Speech competition second prize. District level Debate competition w as held in the college for the students of Senapati District. Three students from the college participated and took all the first three position. Eighteen students from the college took part in the MANFETE which is held from the University, begged some few prizes like; 120 mts to fame 1 st and 2 nd, Essay- 1 st and 3 rd, Sudoko-2 nd, Recitation 3 rd and Extempore speech 1 st Prize. 36. Activities of the Guidance and Counselling unit: AICUF (All India Christian University Federation) is a movement of University students who stands for service and liberation of all human persons, as Jesus did, irrespective of caste, gender, language or belief, its aims is to enable students to develop a critical awareness and analysis of the Indian and world situation to cultivate a deep and genuine concern for the oppressed and marginalised and to effectively commit themselves to the task of building new and justice society. The AICUF functions at the national, regional and unit level, like tuitions for school children, out reached programmes, street play, clothes distribution to the villages, residential camps, works camps, home stay programmes in Kerala and Arunachal Pradesh and trips to various places. State Adviser Fr. (Dr) Principal and coordinator Sr. Deepa Mathew. Campus Ministry is an organization of the students of Don Bosco College, Maram. Their main aims is to cultivate in all the Bosconians the salesian spirit of Joy, cheerfulness, honesty and above all to love God and ones neighbours. It also cultivate in the younger love for the poor and the underprivileged. They are encouraged to live the Good News among their peers and in the society in which they live.coordinator Sr. Margaret Barla FMA, BeD The main aim of the NSS is to educate the students community the need for social commitment through community service with a motto Not me but you, They get ample opportunities to come in touch with the neighbourhood communities to channelize their energy like, social work, organising programmes and observing of important days. Conducting of certain programmes in and around neighbouring villages, They also reached out to the victims and helped them in their crucial period, Blood grouping camp has been organised annually by the NSS unit. Selected NSS volunteers are sent for Exposure programme, training programme as well as Pre Republic Day camp. Jesus Youth is a catholic youth movement working with the objectives of instilling spirituality among students, Retreats, Training programmes, Weekly prayer meetings and attending of special training programmes for the Jesus Youth at regional and national level. The Women s Cell organises a variety of Programmes and spreads awareness with respect to women issues. The college has a very vibrant Alumni with wide networking of Don Bosco institutions all over the country and at international level, it also linked with other Don Bosco institutions at regional, national and international level giving the alumni an immense opportunity for their growth and development.

17 BIIT (Don Bosco of Information and Technology) is another centre in the campus for the students and public to learn and to use its facilities. It offers additional courses in the computer field. BVTI (Bosco Vocational Training Institute) is offered to the young people for developmental skills who are unable to do their formal education. The centres offers various courses like Carpentry, Welding, Knitting, Motor Mechanic and electrical etc. Various courses are conducted from time to time to suit to the needs of the clients. Counselling is empowering a person to face the realities of life. The three principles of counselling are: a) The teachers are the agents of restriping, b) the touch of significance generates significance and c) Energy follows thought. Development programmes for the non-teaching staff: o The annual Picnic for non-teaching staff is organised every year. o A trimonthly interactive session by the Rector of the college with the nonteaching staff ensures their cooperation and is an occasion for them to bring forward their suggestions and grievances if any. o Quarters are made available for them to stay around the campus. 39. Part C 19 Details of the Institutional plan for the year 2010-2011 Our experience of offering quality higher education in a rural, hilly, tribal district which is also backward on account of low enrolment has been on the one hand heartening in realising the fruit it is beginning to bear in the lives of our past students. This year 27 rank holders happen to be our students. On the other hand, our concerns for the future are about sustaining quality by seeking ways to ensure its continuity and incremental growth. In order to achieve this goal for the coming year we envisage the following: 1. Reinforcement of students participation and involvement. To make learning a personalised process and interiorise the students will have to be involved. Towards this end the college introduced departmental activities. Departmental consist of weekly seminars by the students in their respective subject concerned. Every week at least three students are able to present seminar papers related to their studies. It being participatory learning the entire class gets chances to raise questions and will be answer by the students themselves. Departmental activities also consist in presenting programmes which are educative such as, debates, speeches, quiz etc. Every week they get an hour to conduct such programme by the students themselves. 2. Capacity building of the teaching staff. Teaching staff is the back bone of any institution that seeks excellence. To obtain maximum learning by the students we hope to enhance the teaching ability of the staff. Towards this end orientation programmes, teaching methodology and practices, classroom management courses are to be conducted. 3. Follow up of students and the students support system. Most of the students are from far out region of Manipur and as such they are under the supervision and control of the parents and guardians. Adding to their woe they remain in rent houses. Many of them become disorder and misguided. To help students of such background we shall appoint students mentors and staff councillors. In this way we are able to follow up students who are in problems related to their studies as well as personal in nature. The staff is able to take place of their parents and their guardians. If any student find themselves weak in their studies they shall be assisted by the respective teachers concerned in order to make learning easier for the students. 4.Prevent drop outs through special scholarship for weak students. A number of students are from remote rural background some of them real sacrifice to reach here to pursue their studies. In the process of their stay here they find difficult to maintain themselves financially. Such students will be helped out either through scholarship or loan from the college. Thus this students are able to continue their studies undisturbed and prevent drop out. 5. The IQAC team has been revamped as to include new entrants even as we are moving towards the re-accreditation phase and efforts are to be put in place to achieve the target of implementing the suggestions given by the NAAC report 2009.
