Welcome to the HPC Homestay Programme For athletes wanting a home away from home while they train, our Cardrona High Performance Centre programme coordinator can put you in touch with a friendly, local Wanaka family who enjoy having a new family member over the winter months. They offer a caring family environment, support & home cooking after a day of training & study. We believe that the relationships created in a homestay environment can be life long & we encourage athletes families to keep in regular contact with their child & the homestay family before & during their stay. We have a limited number of homestay families available, so please apply no later than 4 weeks before the start of your training & we will try to arrange a suitable match for you. For further information please read the athlete information below. Homestay Programme Application Process 1. Read through Homestay Programme Information & Terms & Conditions 2. Fill out & return Homestay Application for Athletes form to HPC via email or post 3. Coordinator will meet with potential homestay family s home to check suitability & clarify any details 4. HPC will match you with a suitable homestay family based on age, period of stay, preferences & homestay requirements 5. The HPC coordinator will connect you with the homestay family via email for you to arrange Skype/telephone chat 6. Homestay family & athlete to confirm dates for arrival & departure & method of payment 7. Meet your homestay family & start training! Key Information Training Schedules & Dates HPC Parks Squad & CAST full time programmes run Wednesday to Sunday with Monday & Tuesdays as rest days or make up days if there has been bad weather or competitions are scheduled. Saturday June 10 Cardrona opening day Sunday October 15 Cardrona Closing Day

Dry Land Training CAST & Parks Squad athletes will attend dry land/fitness training as part of their training programmes. CAST FIS & U16/14 athletes will use ProActive gym & Pembroke Park for off-snow training as per training schedule & this will commence once they get off the mountain for the day. Homestay athletes will be taken to dry land training from the mountain & dropped back into town or home if previously arranged. Dry land training will also be arranged in place of training if the mountain is closed or on-snow training finishes early due to bad weather. Changes to dry land training times & venue may occur. Parks Squad athletes will use Airshed Trampolines for freestyle training & also ProActive Gym for fitness training. Schedules are determined by the coaches & are often in place of closed days/early finish days. Bad weather & closed days Often strong winds, snow storms or poor visibility means that Cardrona Alpine Resort is not able to open for the day, or closes early to the public. Coaches have plans in these circumstances & aim to communicate schedule changes on snow or via Twitter & text. Training locations usually become Pembroke Park & Proactive for CAST, & Proactive & Airshed Trampolining for Parks Squad. Twitter Using Twitter, our CAST coaches communicate training schedules, race event arrangements, equipment needs & weather updates with athletes every evening/early morning. Please check Twitter if you wish to stay up to date with coach communications for the day. @CASTnz2012 Parks Squad also uses Twitter for updates when attending competitions & also for bad weather/closed day updates. Usually Parks Squad coaches create a Facebook group to communicate to the group of athletes about training schedules. @HPCParksSquad Facebook Our Cardrona Alpine Ski Team (CAST) & Cardrona Parks Squad Facebook pages share event results, pictures & information about all things race & park! Please see our Facebook pages to see what s happening up at Cardrona! Attending Events, Competitions & SSNZ As part of race training schedules CAST & Parks Squad athletes can attend race events & freestyle competitions in the Southern Lakes area & also some events held at Mt Hutt. This is included in the training schedule & programme fees. Some things to note: All athletes are required to be members of Snow Sports NZ (SSNZ) to register & pay for any events online this is done via www.snowsports.co.nz by the athlete prior to attending events & competing CAST Youth (NZ Youth Series) events athletes must also be a member of a snow sports club Wanaka Ski & Snowsports Club (www.wanakasnowsports.co.nz/membership-2) Transport to & from races & events for CAST athletes will run as per normal training transport arrangements. Earlier start pick-ups will be notified via Twitter & the day prior. The athlete may be home at a later time on event days & cancellations & changes will also be communicated via Twitter Please ensure you have appropriate food to last a day attending events
