Fauquier High School College Visit Request Seniors will be permitted to visit a college or university for the purpose of classroom/campus observation, collect interviews, or scholarship competition for which they qualify with the absence not to count against the exam exemption policy or the 10 day absence policy for course credit. All students must meet the following criteria: Three or fewer absences in each class at the same time of the college visit Signed confirmation by a campus official verifying the student s participation in a college tour, information session, college visit class, college interview, or scholarship competition A maximum of three excused absences will be permitted for approved college visits per term Verification Needed: Upon return from the college visit, students must submit this form to the attendance office with documentation from the visit for approval for the absence not to count against the exam exemption policy. College Application Procedure Checklist 1. Research Colleges and Universities for match to your ability, major and location. Go to Collegeboard.org and use the College Search engine. 2. Apply. If you are using Common App. you must be sure to electronically sign the FERPA waiver and then enter your counselor s name and email so Common App. can forward the counselor portion. Without this, your application will be incomplete. This can and should be done when you start your portion of the application to give ample time to prepare a quality letter. 3. Submit a transcript release form to Mrs. Snyder for processing. Please include an activities resume with the first transcript request for your counselor. Transcripts should be requested AFTER you have sent your application to the College/University of your choice, unless you are waiting until the last day they are due. Brown request forms are available in the guidance office. ****Students under the age of 18 must have a parent signature. 4. Request letters of recommendation As a courtesy to your teachers/counselor, please have a conversation before sending online requests. * Just because you ask does not mean that every teacher will agree to do one. *Requests for letters of recommendation and transcripts are due a minimum of 10 school days prior to the due date. Requests dropped off late will not be guaranteed by the due date. What do I need to request a letter from my counselor? Make sure all SAT and ACT scores have been sent to the school(s) to which you are applying. Please check each college website to determine if scores from the high school will be accepted. For example, JMU, CNU, UVA, GMU and W&M do NOT accept scores from us. You will need to send those directly from the SAT or ACT website. 6. If you are planning to play sports at a Division I or II College or University, apply to the NCAA Eligibility Center.
