1 Games Committee, AMU Annual Report 2009-2010 IMPORTANT ACHIEVEMENTS/PARTICIPATION/ORGANIZATION OF EVENTS/INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT 1. The AMU Games Committee was active throughout the year and various teams participated in North Zone and All India Intervarsity Tournaments etc in Cricket, Athletic, Football, Hockey, Riding, Swimming, Lawn Tennis, Mountaineering, Basketball, Volleyball, Badminton, Table Tennis, Body Building, Wt. Lifting, Wrestling, Skating and Power Lifting. 2. Inter Hall Tournaments were organized in all Games and large number of students participated in these tournaments. 3. The Games Committee also organized Inter School Tournaments as well as summer and Winter Coaching Camps for University students and Schools in all Games and large number of students participated in the same. 4. Organized North Zone (Men & Women) Inter University Badminton Tournament from 17th to 21st November 2009. 37 teams participated in men section & 36 team in women section. It was after a gap of many years that a women s Intervarsity event was organized. 5. The Mens and Women Badminton team qualified for All India Tournaments as finalists of North Zone. This is first time in history of AMU that women s Badminton team qualified from North Zone for All India Intervarsity. 6. Two members of Badminton Team namely Mr. Prabhat Kumar Yadav and Mr. Saurav Agarwal represented U.P. Badminton team in National Badminton Championship. 7. AMU Badminton Team won the U.P. Inter University Badminton Championship held at Jhansi in February 2010.

2 8. Mr. Imtiyaz Ahmad AMU Cricket Captain represented UP in Ranji Trophy for 3rd consecutive year 9. Members of Riding team namely Mr. Amir Ayaz Khan won Silver Medal and Mr. Fuzail Ahmad won Bronze Medal in Delhi Horse Show participating against teams of the Army and Para Military forces such as BSF, Assam Rifles, CRPF etc. 10. 121st Annual Riding Show was organized on 14th March 2010 and was a grand success and witnessed by a large gathering. Mr. Mohd Azharuddin former Captain of Indian Cricket team was Chief Guest. Vice-Chancellor, Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis Presided over the function. Other Guests present were District Magistrate, SSP, Registrar, Finance Officer, Controller of Examinations and Nawab of Chattari as well as many former Riders, former captains of Riding Club and Alumni. 11. The Games Committee has been sanctioned Astro Turf for Hockey costing Rs: 3.5 crores and all efforts are being made to get the matter expedited and funds released to CPWD from sports Authority of India at the earliest. Revised estimate has been prepared by CPWD and submitted to Sports Authority of India for release of funds. 12. Roller Skating Rink has been renovated and expanded at cost of Rs: 12 lacs and now recognized tournament can be conducted in the University. 13. Clay Court for Tennis Club has been constructed and made operational. This clay court is in addition to 13 existing grass courts. 14. Rs: 50 lacs have been sanctioned in XIth Five year Plan for Indoor Court which will be constructed in Games Committee Complex. 15. Two members of Hiking & Mountaineering Club, Mr. Suhail Ahmad and Mr. Mohd Hassan completed Basic Snow Skiing course at Gulmarg (Kashmir) from 27.01.2010 to 12.02.2010.

3 16. Hiking & Mountaineering Club Organized Marathon Race on 24.01.2010 in which more than 600 students participated. 17. Mohd Nasir and Saim Farooqui won Doubles Open Lawn Tennis Championship and Mohd Nasir was Runner s up in singles in Open Lawn Tennis Championships organized by U.P. Sports Department in February 2010. 18. Danish Ali selected in Indian Railways under 19 Cricket team. 19. Nine Members of Roller Skating Club selected for U.P. Senior team to participate in 47 th National Roller Skating Championship held at Chandigarh from 13.002.2010 to 19.02.2010. 20. Six members each selected for U.P. Roller Skating Hockey team in Junior and Senior Category. 21. Mr. Ali Imran and Mr. Anas Ahmad selected for under 19 U.P. Football team. 22. Mr. Gauhar Khan of Athletic Club got 4 th position in 200 meters at U.P. Athletic Championships held at Allahabad. 23. AMU Swimming team participated in U.P. Senior as well as Junior Swimming Championships. 24. Vice-Chancellor Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis is taking keen interest in development of Games and Sports and under his able guidance all clubs of Games Committee are very active and vibrant. All efforts are being made to involve maximum no of student in various sports activities. 25. All efforts are being made to involve female students in Games and Sports and give them equal opportunities. Girls are actively participating in Horse Riding, Swimming, Athletics, Basketball, Volleyball, Badminton, Table Tennis, Lawn Tennis, Cricket and Gymnasium.

4 Badminton Club 2009-2010 1. University Games Committee organized North Zone Inter University Badminton (M & W) Tournament from 17 th to 21 st November 2009. 37 teams participated in men section & 36 team participated in women section. AMU men team qualified for All India Inter University Badminton Tournament for the second consecutive year after defeating Agra University 3-0. Prabhat Yadav & Saurav Agarwal of AMU, were unbeaten in whole tournament. 2. AMU Women Badminton team qualified for All India Inter University Badminton Tournament 2009-10 for the first time in the history of Games Committee. AMU Women Badminton team qualified after beating Lucknow University 2-1. 3. The members of AMU Badminton team Mr. Prabhat Yadav & Mr. Saurav Agarwal represented the UP Badminton Team in National Badminton Championship held at Guwahati (Assam) in January 2010. 4. AMU Badminton Players Mr. Prabhat Kumar Yadav and Mr. Saurav Agarwal represented Uttar Pradesh in North East Zone Badminton Tournament held at Haldwani (UK) in the month of September 2009 and won the Tournament after defeating West Bengal in final match. 5. AMU Badminton Men & Women Teams participated in All India Inter- University Badminton Tournament held at Mangalore University (Karnataka) in January 2010. Men team lost to Calicut University (Last Year Winner of All India Inter-University Badminton Tournament) by 2-3. Women team lost to MG University Kottayam by 0-2.

5 6. AMU Badminton men team won the UP Inter-University Badminton Tournament held at Bundelkhand University Jhansi (UP) in February 2010. AMU beat Purvanchal University Jaunpur, CSJM University Kanpur and Lucknow University Lucknow. In final match AMU beat BRA University Agra by 3-0. 7. AMU Badminton Club organized Inter Hall & Open Badminton Championship. NRSC won the Tournament by 2-0 against Hadi Hasan Hall in final match. Mr. Saurav Agarwal won the Open District Championship by 2-1 against Mr. Prabhat Yadav in final match.

6 Riding Club 2009-2010 1. The AMU Riding team consisting Mr. Imran Khan, (Captain) Mr. Mohd Anas Roashan, Mr. Amir Ayaz Khan, Mr. Fuzail Ahmad, Mr. Tanseer Alam Khan and Mr. Umair Khan Sherwani participated in Delhi Horse Show from 31.03.2010 to 12.04.2010 along with seven horses. Mr. Fuzail Ahmad secured Bronze medal (III Place) and Mr. Amir Ayaz Khan secured Silver Medal (2nd Place) in APRC Individual Tent Pegging event. It is to be remembered that our students were competing with professional riders of Army, Para Military Forces and Police teams. 2. The AMU Riding team gave the Salute and ceremonial squad to Mr. Farooq Abdullah, Cabinet Minister, Govt. of India on the occasion of Sir Syed Day on 17.10.2009. 3. Organized 121st Annual Riding show on 14.03.2010 which was a grand success. Mr. Azharuddin, MP and former Captain Indian Cricket team was the Chief Guest on this occasion. A large number of distinguished guests including the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis, Registrar, Proctor, Controller, Finance Officer, District Magistrate, Senior Superintendent of Police etc graced the occasion. The show was watched by a large Gathering. UP mounted Police also participated in the event. Female riders also participated in various events. Our Riders won several first Prize in various events beating the UP mounted police riders. 4. The Club conducted Annual Riding Exam on 05.05.2010 in which 27 Riders (both boys & girls) passed the exam.

7 5. The Club organized advance riding training course (Junior) from 20th may to 15th June 2009. 6. Organized Special riding Show for delegates attending National Seminar on sports Psychology.

8 Hiking & Mountaineering Club 2009-2010 1. Two members of Hiking & mountaineering Club namely Mr. Suhail Ahmad and Mr. Mohd Hassan completed Basic Snow Skiing course at Gulmarg (Jammu and Kashmir) from 27.01.2010 to 12.02.2010 and secured excellent performance during their study course. 2. The Club also conducted (10 Kms for Men and 05 Kms for Boys /Girls) National Integration Marathon Race on the occasion of Republic day Celebrations on 24.01.2010, in which more than 600 students participated. A large number of Female students and some staff members also participated in the marathon race. 3. As part of regular training Programme, the club conducted Adventure Mountaineering Course at Dehradun/Mussoorie area from 05th to 10th March 2010. Sixteen students were selected to participate in the course. The club conducted another Adventure course from 16th to 21st March 2010 and 21 students participated in the training programme in the HIMALAYAN HILLS. The performance of the students during these courses was satisfactory. 4. One of the eminent member of Hiking & Mountaineering Club, Mr. Suhail Ahmad, wishes to climb Mount Everest during the forthcoming year 2011, provided he gets a sponsor as cost of Everest expedition for one member is about 16 lac rupees.

9 Cricket Club 2009-2010 1 The University cricket team participated in North Zone Inter University Cricket (M) Tournament 2009-10 held at Bhatinda organized by Punjabi University, Patiala from 25.12.2009 to 05.01.2010. The team lost to Jammu University in the Quarter Finals of the tournament. 2 The Cricket team won the Sir Syed Memorial Open Cricket Tournament 10, defeating Areeb Cricket club Moradabad by 60 runs in the Final. 3 Mr. Imtitaz Ahmad, member of AMU Cricket team represented UP Cricket Team in Ranji Trophy & Deodhar Trophy 4 Mr. Danish Ali represented the Indian Railways U-19 Cricket team. 5 Tahmeed Aslam was selected in the camp of U-19 Railways Team. 6 The women s team participated in the NORTH EAST ZONE INTERVARSITY (WOMEN) CRICKET TOURNAMENT 2009-10 from 15.11.09 to 18.11.09 held at MDU Rohatk. 7 Five Women players were selected to represent Aligarh District Cricket team in the state level, H. N Bahuguna, UP State Women s Cricket Tournament held at Allahabad. 8 The Cricket Club organized the Interhall Cricket tournament for the session 2009-10. NRSC defeated AMU City High School in the Final. 9 The Cricket Club organized the Inter School cricket tournament on the occasion of the Republic Day Celebration from 27.01.10 to 31.01.10. AMU City High School won the tournament defeating S.T. High School in the final.

10 10 The Club organized summer coaching camp for school boys of Aligarh District from 24.05.2010 to 10.06.2010 at the University Cricket ground in which more than 250 aspirants appeared in the trials. 75 students from various schools were selected for the three week summer camp.

11 Tennis Club 2009-2010 1 A.M.U. Tennis Club (Men) team participated in North Zone Inter University Tournament held at Hissar University, Haryana in January 2010. The first match was walkover as the opponent failed to turn up & in the second match AMU team defeated Jammu University, Jammu by 3-0. First single was won by Mr. Mohammad Nasir in straight sets & in the second single Mr. Avinash Prakash Shrivastava defeated his opponent also in straight set. Mr. Mohammad Nasir & Mr. Saim Farooqi won the doubles comfortably. In the quarter final match, team lost to Delhi University. The matches were played on Synthetic surface and since AMU Tennis Club has grass courts, the students were not used to Synthetic Surface and therefore at a disadvantage. Despite this handicap, performance was satisfactory. 2 The club organized Summer Coaching Camp for School boys & girls of Aligarh district. The club hired a qualified Coach, Mr. Shahid Iqbal from Delhi to impart training for the participants. 40 boys & girls participated in the Coaching Camp held from 11.06.2010 to 25.06.2010. 3 The club organized Girls Inter Hall Tournament from 09.03.2010 to 11.03.2010 for the first time in its History and S. N. Hall, Abdullah Hall and I. G. Hall participated in this historic event. Nawab Ibne Saeed Khan of Chattari was Chief Guest in Prize Distribution Function. 4 Inter Hall Tournament for Boys was held from 09.03.2010 to 11.03.2010. NRSC was Winner and V. M. Hall Runner s up. 5 The club has constructed clay court at cost of Rs: Two lacs. This is in addition to 13 existing grass courts.

12 6 Regular Game is being held in Lawn Tennis complex throughout the year and from this year separate playing facilities have also been provided to girl students. 7 Mohd Nasir and Saim Farooqui won Doubles Open Lawn Tennis Championship and Mohd Nasir was Runner s up in singles in Open Lawn Tennis Championships organized by U.P. Sports Department in February 2010.

13 Swimming Club 2009-2010 1. Swimming team participated in All India Intervarsity swimming championship 2009-10 held at GNDU Amritsar from 29.10.2009 to 05.12.2009. The performance of team was as follows. 1. Harris Mohd Khan took part in 50 meters back stroke and his timing was 0:34 seconds. 2. Mohd Talha Laiq took part in 100 meters breast stroke and his timing was 1:34 seconds. 3. Sharukh Sharif took part in 50 meters free style and his timing was 0:38 seconds All swimmers showed capability to secure good positions with regular and rigorous practice in future. 2. Swimming team participated in UP state swimming championship and the performances of the team was as follows:- 1. Haris Mohd Khan, captain swimming club took part in 50 meters free style and his timing was 0:35 seconds. 2. Mohd Faraz Khan took part in 50 meters Breast stroke and his timing was 0:42 seconds. 3. Saify Rasheed took part in 50 meters back stroke and his timing was 0:43 seconds 4. Athar Ali took part in 100 mtrs. Breast stroke and his timing was 1:58 seconds. 5. Azeem Anwar took part in 100 mtrs. Free style and his timing was 1:35 seconds. 6. Arjun Agrawal took part in 50 mtrs. Free style and 50 meter Breast stroke and his timing was 0:32 and 0:43 seconds respectively.

14 7. Talha Laiq took part in 100 mtrs. Breast stroke and his timing was 1:36 seconds and qualified for final. 8. Zainul Abideen Lodhi took part in 100 mtrs. Free style and his timing was 1:32 seconds. 3. Swimming Inter Hall and Open Swimming Meet was held from 16.08.2010 to 18.08.2010. The Championship was inaugurated by Prof. Tariq Mansoor, Secretary, University Games Committee on 16.08.2009. The closing ceremony and Prize distribution was done by Mr. K. Ram Mohan Rao, District Magistrate, Aligarh. This year around 150 swimmers took part in the championship. The annual report and vote of thanks was given by Prof. M. 15 4. Inter Hall and Open Swimming meet for Girls was held on 18.08.2010 and more than 30 Female Swimmers participated. 5. Swimming Club organized Summer Coaching Camp for Boys & Girls from 17.05.2010 to 16.06.2010. 40 boys & 35 Girls participated in the Camp. 6. Nine members AMU Swimming team also participated in U.P. Junior Swimming Championship from 01.06.2010 to 04.06.2010 held at Lucknow. 7. Large number of students are coming regularly for Swimming in the Menston Swimming Pool from April to October.

16 Wrestling Club 2009-2010 The AMU Wrestling team participated in the All India Inter University Wrestling (M & W) Championship organized by C. C. S University Meerut from 28.12.2009 to 03.01.2010. This year club organized Inter Hall Wrestling Championship as well as the Open Challenge competition. In the Inter Hall Tournament in 50 kg category Mr. Gurudev Sharma of Sir Ziauddin Hall, 55 kg category Mr. Jaihind, 60 Kg Category Mr. Brajesh of M. M. Hall and in 74 kg category Mr. Prateek of NRSC Hall have won the Gold Medals. In Open Challenge Competition Mr. Brajesh Kumar Yadav of NRSC Hall got the Championship Title.

17 Skating Club 2009-2010 The members of AMU Skating Club participated in selection trial held on 8th November 2009 at Sahibabad for participation in the 47th National Roller Skating Championship 2009-10. Bahare Alam Skating Rink has been expanded and renovated at cost of Rs: 12 lacs and now recognized tournaments can be conducted in the University. Physical Culture Club 2009-2010 The total strength of the Physical Culture club rose to more than three hundred. The club remains active throughout the session. The University Weight-Lifting, Power-Lifting and Best Physique (Men) teams participated in the All India Weight-Lifting, Power-Lifting and Best Physique (Men) Championship 2009-2010 held at G.N.D.U., Amritsar (Punjab) organized by G.N.D. 19 power lifting Mr. Kaleem Ahmad lifted 15 Kg. more in both lifts i.e. Squat and dead lift. The club organized Inter-hall Tournament of Mr. University and the power lifting competition and for the first time also organized Open District Weight- Lifting Competition. 20 Hockey Club 2009-2010 1. Sports Authority of India has sanctioned Rs: 3.5 crores for Hockey Astro Turf at A.M.U, All efforts are being made to get the implementation done at the earliest. Estimate has been prepared by CPWD and has been submitted to sports Authority of India for release of funds. 2. The University hockey team participated in North Zone Inter University Hockey (M) Tournament 2009-10 held at Jammu from 30.11.2009 to 06.12.2009. The team after taking the lead lost to Lucknow University as the match was played on Astro- Turf surface & the AMU team lacked practice on it. 3. The Hockey team also participated in K.L. Rungta State Hockey Tournament 2009-10 held at Basti from 21.02.2010 to 23.02.2010. 4. The team members of hockey club went New Delhi with the permission of the Competent Authority, AMU to watch the FIH World Cup Hockey Tournament on 06.03.2010 5. In Inter Hall Hockey tournament for the session 2009-10, Sir Syed Hall (South) defeated Allama Iqbal hall in Final.

The Club organized summer coaching camp for school boys of Aligarh District from 20.05.2010 to 12.06.2010 at the University Hockey ground and 22 boys of various Schools participated in the Camp. Athletics Club 2009-2010 1 The AMU Athletic team participated in the All India Inter University Athletic Meet from 24th December 2009 to 3rd January 2010 at Nehru Stadium, Chennai. 17 members, both Men and women participated in the All India Athletic Intervarsity. 2 Mr. Gauhar Khan Member of the AMU Athletics Club was selected in Aligarh District Athletic team and participated in UP state Athletic Meet 2010 in the 200 mt. and got 4th place at UP Championship held at Allahabad. 3 The Athletics Club organized Annual Inter Hall Athletic Meet on 20th & 21st February 2010 in which about 250 male & female Athletes of AMU participated in different events. Mr. Anupam Kumar, Mr. Gauhar Khan, Ms. Deepika Chaudhary and Ms. Reeta Gaur member of the Athletics Club won individual Championship in men, boys women and Girls category respectively. 4 The Athletics Club organized Open District Athletics Meet on 23rd & 24th February 2010 in which about 800 male & female Athletes from Various Schools & Colleges of Aligarh District participated in different events. Aligarh Mr. Vijay Prakash inaugurated the Championship and Vice-Chancellor, AMU Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis distributed the Medals at closing ceremony. 5 The AMU Athletics Club organized a District Summer Athletic Coaching Camp for the School Boys & Girls from 24th May to 13th June 2010 in which 84 students of various Schools of Aligarh district participated.

23 Football Club 2009-2010 1 Football team participated in North Zone Intervarsity Football tournament held at University of Kashmir Srinagar in November 2009. AMU Football team reached up to the quarter final of the Tournament. Team won first match against Jamia Millia Islamia University, and second against PTU Jalandhar but lost against Punjab University, Chandigarh in penalty shootout after goal less draw in regular time. Punjab University went on to win the North Zone Tournament. 2 Inter Hall Football Tournament was held from 10th February to 17th February in which 17 Halls and School teams participated and NRSC Club and Allama Iqbal Hall reached the final which NRSC won by 4-1. 3 Mr. Ali Imran and Mr. Anas Ahmad both students of Senior Secondary School, AMU were selected for Under-19 UP Football team. 4 Invitational Inter School football Tournament was organized by the Football Club on the occasion of Independence Day. 20 School Football teams participated and Senior Secondary School, AMU & Our Lady of Fatima School played final match of the Tournament which Senior Secondary School, AMU won by 3-1. 5 Kaleem Memorial Football Tournament was held from 04.09.2009 to 10.09.2009 in which 8 Local teams participated.

24 6 Football Club organized a Summer Coaching Camp for School boys and 150 boys of different age groups participated in the Camp from 20th May to 12th June 2010. 7 The regular practice of Football Club is going on throughout the year and large number of students play soccer everyday.

25 Volleyball Club 2009-2010 1. The Volleyball team participated in 57th UP state Volleyball Championship held at Faizabad from 21.01.2010 to 25.01.2010. The team reached the semi final and lost to Dogra Regiment Center Faizabad. 2. The University Volleyball team participated in North Zone Intervarsity Volleyball (Men) Tournament 2009-10 held at CSJM Kanpur from 22.10.2009 to 24.10.2009 and lost in quarter final to MJP Rohilkhand University, Bareilly 3-2 in very close match. 3. Inter Hall Volleyball Tournament for the session 2009-10 was held from 04.03.2010 to 06.03.2010. M. M. Hall was Winner and Aftab Hall Runner s up. 4. The club organized Summer Coaching Camp for School boys of Aligarh District from 20.05.2010 to 10.06.2010 at the University Volleyball Court. 5. Five players were selected to represent Aligarh District Volleyball team in the U.P. State championship held at Mainpuri. 6. The University Volleyball (women) team participated in North East Zone Intervarsity Volleyball tournament held at Pt. Ravi Shankar Shukla University Raipur from 06.01.2010 to 10.01.2010. 7. Interhall Volleyball Tournament was held from 09th to 11th February 2010. Abdullah Hall team was winner and I.G Hall team was runner up in this volleyball tournament.

26 8. Ala Bi memorial regional volleyball tournament was held from 08 to 10th March 2010, in which Women s College RED team was winner and Women s College GREEN team was runner.

27 Table Tennis Club 2009-2010 1. AMU table Tennis Men & Women Teams participated in North Zone Inter University Table Tennis Tournament 2009-10 held at MJP Rohailkhand University from 09.11.2009 to 12.11.2009. The Women team reached the third round and lost against CCS University Meerut by 2-3. 2. Table Tennis Club organized Inter Hall & Open University Championship from 07.02.2010 to 09.02.2010. NRSC Hall won the Tournament and Munawwar Askari won the Open Single s Championship.

28 Basketball Club 2009-2010 1. Mens Basketball team participated in North Zone Intervarsity Tournament form 21.10.2009 to 26.10.2009 at Dr. B.R.A NIT Jalandhar. 2. Women Basketball team participated in North Zone Intervarsity Tournament from 28.10.2009 to 02.11.2009 at CSJM University, Kanpur. 3. Sheikh Abdullah memorial regional basketball tournament was organized from 4th to 6th March 2010. Women s College was winner and IG Hall was runner in the tournament. 4. Inter School District Tournament and Coaching Camp was held as part of Republic Day celebrations in January 2010. 5. Inter Hall Basketball Tournament was held from 17.02.2010 to 19.02.2010. 6. Summer Coaching Camp for students and School boys was organized from 01.06.2010 to 19.06.2010. 7. Five members of the club participated in U.P. Junior Basketball Championship held at Bijnor (U.P.) from 20.06.2010 to 25.06.2010 as part of Aligarh District team.
