THE VIRTUE OF EMPATHY In the month of October, we celebrate the virtue of Empathy. Empathetic people are those who can put themselves in another s shoes. They demonstrate the capacity to feel what the other person is feeling and recognize the depth of the emotions of others. As we work, live and play with one another this year, may we seek the strength of the Holy Spirit to live the virtue of Empathy each day. Permission to use PED s is dependent on signing and abiding by the Board s PED / Wifi user agreement. PED s are not mandatory for in-class activities, and parents who decline to participate will not incur any academic penalty for their child. 21st CENTURY CLASSROOM DESIGN One of our continuing school goals is to look at classroom set-up and design, and move them towards a layout that best supports 21st century learning. Twenty-first Century Learning is a model that is centered on collaboration, creativity, problem-solving, critical thinking and of course technology. A number of our classrooms have replaced desks and chairs with tables, stools, and bean bags. Students are now able to find a space in the classroom that best meets their individual learning style. Celebrating Local Government Week: Oct. 15-21, 2017 HIGHLIGHTING CATHOLIC SCHOOL TRUSTEES October 15-21 has been designated by the province of Ontario as Local Government Week with the goal of increasing youth and public awareness about the role local government plays in our communities. Local school trustees are an integral part of publicly funded school boards in Ontario. Dufferin-Peel s Catholic schools are overseen by a board of 11 elected trustees. Trustees serve as system leaders of publically funded education in their communities and province. They work collaboratively with their community to shape a vision for the board that is reflective of the input of parents, students and community members. Trustees advocate for excellence in education and act as role models to engender confidence in publically funded education. In addition, Catholic school trustees have a clearly defined role as stewards and guardians of Catholic education. Two student trustee representatives, elected by their peers, also sit with the board in a non-voting capacity. Regular meetings of the board are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Catholic Education Centre at 40 Matheson Boulevard West in Mississauga. For more information about Catholic school trustees, visit the board website at www.dpcdsb.org and look for the news item, Celebrating Local Government Week.
