MRS. MILDRED OBUYA She informed the parents that the Kindergarten pupils had learnt to use the magic words, learnt to share and that all the all pre- primary pupils had graduated to Std 1. She thanked the PTA for presenting the graduands with T-shirts and the Christmas Party for the kindergarten pupils. It was suggested the Std 1 pupils could enjoy the Christmas Party as well. The parents input was highly appreciated in the re-designing of the T-shirts. MIN 3/2/2015 MATTER ARISING 1. PTA MATTERS The parents praised the committee members for the professional and excellent presentation made to them during the AGM. They were also applauded for awarding the pupils as the parents had noted a remarkable improvement in the pupils performance. Parents had, in the previous meeting, requested that the minutes be sent to them on time. The Chairman apologized for the delay saying that this oversight. They also requested that the PTA Constitution be sent out to them to acquaint themselves with the document. However, there is need to review it as it was drafted in 1999. Circulation of the constitution could be done through the parents email addresses. It was suggested that the incoming committee could explore the possibilities of heating the pool since the cold season is approaching. It was noted that the PTA revenue had gone down. This was due to the decline in the number of existing and new parents in Riara. The members were informed the subscription of 300/= for existing parents and 800/= for new parents had been incorporated in the year 1999. The PTA had been cushioned financially as the previous committees did not undertake many activities, hence the PTA account has substantial amount. However, the amount would start to dwindle with the activities to be undertaken. In order to support and manage the PTA activities, the treasurer recommended an increment of the annual subscription from 300/= to 1,500 for existing parents and 800/= to 2,000/= for the new parents. Members requested for a budget for the activities for the year 2015. They were informed that the committee members could not have come up with the budget since the elections were around the corner. The in coming committee was charged with that responsibility. 2. SCHOOL SELECTION Some parents raised concern that the std 8 pupils had performed well in the K.C.P.E but the high school calling letters were wanting. PTA AGM MEETING Page 3
Mrs. Mbugua discussed the criteria being used by the Government and added that the matter was being looked into nationally. She also informed them that the choice of the High Schools was a very important exercise in determining the school the candidate would be called into as there were certain schools that must be selected as the first choice in the National selection. 3. PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT Personal development of the pupils and teachers is a key in the development of the school. The members suggested that a sub-committee be formed in the next committee meeting to look into it. Mrs. Mbugua informed them that the school had mentorship programme for the Std 8, life skills programme at Lukenya and Brackenhurst and counselling sessions for the pupils within the school with professional counsellor. There are teachers who have gone back to school to improve and add to their professional skill on the school- based programme. 4. A.O.B The parents suggested that PTA Constitution could be posted in the Riara Primary PTA website for the parents to access. Some of the school buses are in dilapidated state i.e Bus no: 25.Hence, the transport management needs to look into the matter urgently. The quality of the T-shirts needs to be looked into as some of them faded after the first wash. In reference to the International trips, the parents need to stick to the recommended amount. Some parents felt that the amount allocated for the pocket money is too much yet some are still adding more to their children during the trip. The homework policy should be provided to the parents in order for them to understand the document. The movement at the parking lot should be looked into by the school management as the safety of the pupils is paramount. Some pupils had developed stomach problems after eating school lunch in the school. The parents requested that the issue be looked into. MIN 4/2/2015 TREASURER S REPORTS 2013/2014 The account report for 2013 and 2014 was read and thereafter proposed by Wangui and seconded by Peter. On majority vote, the parents voted on the increment of the PTA membership from 300/= to 1,000/= for existing parents and PTA subscription from 800/= to 1,500/= for new parents joining Riara Primary and Kindergarten.
