PRINCIPAL S MESSAGE Dear Class of 2017 and Parents, What a special class you are. Remember not only what you have accomplished while at Canyon High School, but also that you will go on to do tremendous things in your life. Your future started here, what will you make of it? As these were some of the most important years of your life, build on the foundation that you started and achieve greatness. Yet the first step is graduation, which is right around the corner, and to assist you in getting there we have prepared this booklet which highlights the activities that will make it special along the way. Can you envision walking across that stage after your name is called in earning your high school diploma? Your friends and family could not be any more proud of you. You have earned the opportunity to now be considered an alumnus of Canyon High School. And when the reunions come about, how about spending that time with your peers reminiscing about the great times you had at the end of your senior year. Yet, adhering to the proper standards of behavior and attendance will make these opportunities all the more worthwhile. I cannot tell you how disappointed your family would be if a simple poor decision during these critical times came to light. There is nothing more that the Canyon High School faculty and staff want for you than to have fun and exemplify what it means to be a Cowboy, but in doing so, make sure that you do so in the right way. The Senior Activities outlined in this booklet allow you to plan for the last weeks of your time at Canyon High School. We encourage you to participate in as many of these as you can. Please read it carefully so you do not miss any deadlines and refer back to it as needed. EXPECTATIONS FOR GRADUATION Dear 2017 Seniors, It has been my honor to be your Senior Class President. I had so much fun being able to plan such Graduation is an important and dignified ceremony which has great meaning for graduating seniors, parents, family members, and Canyon High School. This ceremony signifies the successful culmination of thirteen years of education. In order to assure that our graduation ceremony is meaningful for all, the following expectations apply to all participants: 1. Graduates are to be courteous during the entire ceremony, and are to refrain from any activity which is disruptive, distracting, or dangerous. Consequences will incur otherwise. 2. Graduates are not to carry anything with them into the ceremony which would cause a disturbance or distraction. Gowns shall not be decorated or altered in any way. 3. Any student who appears to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol will not be allowed to participate. All school rules are in effect. Smoking is not allowed by participants or observers. Senior Class President To the Class of 2017, events as our senior BBQ, winter formal, and Grad Nite, in hopes of making sure our last year of high school holds memories that we will never forget. Over the last 4 years we have learned to lean on each other and become a family. I am so proud of who you all have become and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for everyone. Thank you all for the amazing opportunity to serve the class of 2017 one last time. With much gratitude, Amanda Bell 4. Graduates are to dress appropriately for such a distinguished ceremony. Please do not wear beach attire, sports clothing, jeans, flip-flop sandals, etc. When in doubt, dress up! Any candidate for graduation who violates the above behavior standards will not receive a diploma, and will be escorted out of the ceremony. The student will be required to attend a parent conference with the Principal the week following graduation. REMINDER: Graduates MUST attend graduation practice and clear all financial debts to the school in order to participate in the ceremony as well as all other graduation-related activities. SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS Your Senior Class Officers are responsible for planning your class reunions in the future. Please remember their names, as reunions are NOT planned by Canyon High School, and most likely will be through outside companies. PRESIDENT.....Amanda Bell VICE PRESIDENT.....Kandyce Leger SECRETARY/TREASURER... Joseph Botros As we near the end of our high school careers, we should enjoy the little time we have left. But we also use it to reflect on the impact we have made on the school and on each other. As Aristotle once said, The whole is more than the sum of its parts. Each and every one of you make up the Class of 2017, a term that describes more than just a group of people graduating together; it describes the experiences shared, friendships developed, knowledge taught, and powerful bond created and contributed to by a very special group of people. I said at the beginning of the year that everyone is capable of finding his or her passion or talent and maintaining the perseverance necessary to achieve goals and find success. Every single senior has not only proved me right, but has exceeded everybody s expectations and has truly taken advantage of the opportunities Canyon High School provides. Although you have all demonstrated that you are more than ready for what your future holds through your hard work and growth over the past four years, I urge you not to forget the important lessons that you learned not just in the classroom, but also from your fellow classmates as well as from the experiences you have shared with them. In conjunction with the knowledge our amazing teachers have given us, the friendships we ve created, the happy, reminiscent, and trying memories we share, and the support we ve given and received will allow us to be more successful in life that we can currently envision. All of you put forth incredible effort and devoted an incredible amount of time to learning, growing, making Canyon High School a better place, and making each other better people. Never forget how special and impactful these four years have been. I am immensely proud of what each one of you was able to achieve so far and I hope that you will be able to look back on high school and be just as proud. I look forward to you all finding whatever you define success as and achieving happiness at the same time; with the skills and experiences you ve obtained at Canyon High School and from one another, I have no doubt that you will prosper. Best of luck and congratulations, Kyle Wallace ASB President
