Fricano Primary s The Shining Star Journal: January 2018 Happy New Year Fricano Families! I hope you all enjoyed the wonderful holiday season with your family and friends. As we begin a new year, I like to reflect on what is most important to all of us quality time with our family, friends, good health and happiness. We congratulate our December students of the month who were recognized at our assembly before the holiday break: Kindergarten; Jacob Graves, Charlotte Schubring First Grade: Micah Ingraham,Camille Rosenberg Second Grade: Sophia Hart, Logan Seymour We are very proud of you! Our PARP theme for this school year is Reading is a Ball! January s event will focus on our Reading Bingo Board. More information will be coming home the first week in January. Please keep encouraging your child to read each night. The more reading children do, the more quickly they will develop as readers. It is often recommended that beginning readers spend 15 or 20 minutes reading each day, in addition to the reading they do at school. However, the amount of reading a child does is most important, not the amount of time she spends doing it. While 15 to 20 minutes is the recommended amount of reading, it is important to note that, if your child is interested in and enjoying what they are reading, it is fine to encourage more time. Also, beginning readers generally benefit from reading to someone to enhance the love of reading, so whenever possible find time to listen to your child read. Dr Seuss reminds us that You can find magic whenever you look, sit back and relax, all you need is a book! As we come back from our holiday vacation, please remind your children of our rules when riding the school bus. Appropriate bus behavior is essential to provide safety for all our students and promotes good character development. Children are to remain seated, and they are not allowed to have open food or drinks while riding the bus. Please remind your children that they are to treat other students with kindness and respect at all times. I am always grateful to our parents for reinforcing these good habits. Here are some important dates to remember for this month: Monday, January 8th PTA Meeting 6:30 PM Middle School Cafeteria Monday, January 15th No School - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Monday, January 22nd Half Day -Dismissal at 11:30 I look forward to a great new year for our school community as we continue to support our students in their successful leadership journey. Peace, good health and happiness in 2018! Sincerely, Kathleen Brachmann, Principal
