Sports Premium at Larkholme Primary School 2017-2018 At Larkholme we believe that sport and PE is a vital part of every child s education and wellbeing. We aim to provide all children with a wide range of sporting opportunities both during school and in after school clubs. What is the Sports Premium? The Government is providing funding of 300 million per annum to provide new, substantial primary school sport funding. This funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and will see money going directly to primary school head teachers to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children. This funding has been extended and will continue for the financial year 2017/18. The sport funding can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools. Purpose of funding Schools will have to spend the sport funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this. We are using the funding for: hiring specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work alongside primary teachers when teaching PE to pay for premium sports packages paying for professional development opportunities in PE/sport providing cover to release primary teachers for professional development in PE/sport running sport competitions, or increasing participation in the school games buying quality assured professional development modules or materials for PE/sport providing places for pupils on after school sport clubs and holiday clubs

How will we be spending the Sports Funding in 2017/2018 and who will benefit? The Governors agree that the money must be used so that: all children benefit regardless of sporting ability; that the most able children are given the opportunity to compete in advanced tournaments; that staff have access to training opportunities and continued professional development. Below we show how we intend to spend the sports funding during 2017/18: Hiring qualified sports coaches to work alongside teachers when teaching PE: Wyre and Fylde Sports Premium Package The school has bought into the Wyre & Fylde Sports Premium Package, which involves coaches delivering six different health-programmes, five different curriculum-based training sessions, six different extra-curricular clubs and ten additional sports competitions, to all the children across both key stages. This package will benefit all the children from the Early Years Foundation Stage through to Year 6. The sports package has been designed to complement and enhance our already outstanding sports provision. Coaching/Team Teaching We also employ an HLTA/P.E. specialist to deliver bespoke professional development in the teaching of P.E. to all the teachers in school through team teaching and coaching. This will support the teachers in delivering highly effective P.E. lessons. Teachers complete a skills audit which informs the team teaching/coaching process and identifies their individual areas for development. Attendance at Local Authority/YST P.E. Courses During the year, funding and cover will be arranged so that individual members of staff (e.g. NQT, RQT) can attend professional development courses that are provided through the local authority or YST. This is intended to improve staff subject knowledge and confidence in PE. Larkholme Leaders Not only will we provide training to staff, children will also be trained to be leaders within our school community. Providing places for pupils for after school sport club Our school already offers a vast range of after school clubs, accessed by children from Key Stages One and Two. These clubs will continue to run as before. From September 2017, we will be hosting a larger variety of clubs, purposefully to engage new participants and beginners in a variety of sporting activities. We will also be employing specialist coaching to improve after school provision. We will ensure that all children, regardless of ability, will reach their full potential. Increasing participation in school sport

At Larkholme, we already enter into a wide variety of sporting competitions, liaising closely with other schools in the area. The sports teams practise regularly after school and also at lunchtimes, so that all children have the opportunity to participate in team events. It is intended that, with increased professional development and expertise, even more opportunities will be presented by staff. This year we also intend to extend sports squads to include an increased amount of B and C teams. Working alongside other schools, we intend to compete in a wide range of sports in tournaments and provide further opportunities for more children to participate. We feel that intra-school competitions are also extremely beneficial within school. The children will continue to be involved in inter house competitions throughout the year. Our goal this year is to provide as many competitive and leadership opportunities to a broader range of children. Continued Activities from 2016 Every child in the school is able to attend Wake & Shake sessions on Friday morning 8:15-8:45am Every child from Y1-Y6 will be able to attend Mike Tallantire s lunchtime activity club each week. All children will be able to take part in the Golden Mile Challenge. All children will be able to play table tennis at the lunchtime table tennis club. School Targets for 2017-2018: Our targets for this year are to improve our sport/pe provision and maintain the Sainsbury s School Games Gold Level and the Youth Sports Trust Gold Quality Mark. To do this we will: Engage at least 85% of students in an extra-curricular activity by extending the range of activities and provision at lunchtime and mornings Introduce the Larkholme Run a Mile Club -all children across both KS1 & KS2 taking part twice weekly. Join the Wyre and Fylde School Sports Partnership-Premium Package Offer CPD opportunities for targeted teachers-staff audited and NQT, RQT targeted for CPD opportunities as well as team teaching opportunities. KS1 consultant supported KS1 baseline assessment. To offer booster swimming sessions to Year 5/6 children, Y6 to achieve 25m -100% Y5 to achieve 25m 85% To provide intra and inter school competitions, including opportunities for A, B & C teams-21 x intra competitions,17 x A team coompetitions,14 x B team competitions & 4 x C team competitions.

Organise the Fleetwood netball league and the Fleetwood B team football tournament as a proactive member of the Thornton - Cleveleys & Fleetwood Sports cluster To increase leadership opportunities- 63% of Key Stage 1 & Key Stage 2 children to have the opportunity to lead or officiate. This will be aided with the introduction of PE leaders. Offer Gifted & Talented/SEND opportunities- G & T children will attend a camp during the Easter holidays. The G &T children will form the Sports Council in school. SEND children will be targeted for a range of clubs and competitions. To improve the quality of assessment of the core tasks across both key stages, with an emphasis on support for the NQT and RQTs.
