PTHS Student Earn Challenge Awards STEM: Megan Black & Zach Basar Community Service: Marissa McFarlin & Anthony LaRosa Perfect Attendance: Ethan Smith & Margo Burkholder Academic Improvement: Maeve Parisi & Clayton Yeates Academic Excellence: Emma McCartney & Sam Marx On January 26 the ten students above from PTHS were presented with awards from the Challenge Program. The program is designed to motivate high school students both in and out of the classroom by encouraging good habits with tangible results. A $200 award is given to two students in each of five categories thanks to a partnership with WesBanco.

MathCounts Student Moves on to State Level Congratulations to 6 th grader Scott Zhu! Sixth grader Scott Zhu finished fourth at the local MathCounts Competition in Washington, PA on February 6 th. He will now move on to the state competition in March. Overall, ten students from McMurray and the Middle School attended, with Scott ranking the highest among them.

Naval Academy Honors Congressman Tim Murphy recognized Sebastian Yocca for his acceptance into the U.S. Naval Academy Congressman Tim Murphy made a special appearance during the February 5 th boys varsity basketball game at PTHS to present a special certificate to senior Sebastian Yocca. Sebastian has been accepted to the U.S. Naval Academy and will be recognized as part of senior recognition that night.

Pittsburgh CLO Visits McMurray Pittsburgh Innovators assembly teaches students about major events in Pittsburgh History McMurray students were treated to a special assembly this week when they learned about the innovators of Pittsburgh from the CLO! They heard all about the great innovations that took place right here in the 'Burgh - from the first suspension bridge to the polio vaccine!

PTHS Students Earn Scholastic Awards Gold Medals: Cindy Hsieh Shruthi Shivkumar Silver Awards: Shruthi Shivkumar Stephanie Wang Merit Awards: Shruthi Shivkumar Zach Strennen Stephanie Wang Benjamin Zeisloft Congratulations to the students above who have received honors at the regional level of the National Scholastic Arts and Writing Contest. The work of the gold medal winners is now under consideration for national recognition in New York. National Medalists will be announced in March.

McMurray Career Fair Students learn about a variety of careers ranging from engineers to a pastry chef! Last week McMurray Elementary welcomed 20 special guests to share their professions during the building s annual career day. Organized by the school counselors, students rotated through presentations that included engineers, pastry chefs, personal trainers, K-9 Officers and musicians.

PTHS Students Named National Merit Finalists Seniors Connor Schwartz and Varun Sharma will now have an opportunity to compete for National Merit Scholarships, worth more than $32 million. The two students above from Peters Township High School have been named Finalists by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. They are among an elite group of students from across the nation to earn this honor. They will now all be considered for the National Merit Scholarships, worth more than $33 million.

Mark Your Calendar! PTMS Musical will take place on February 25-27! Mark your calendar for the PTMS Musical on February 25-27 in the Middle School LGI. Students are performing Disney s Peter Pan, Jr. You won t want to miss it!

PT Dance Team Takes Top Honors at Nationals! Varsity Team 2 nd place among 34 teams Junior Varsity National Champions! 1 st place among 11 teams Congratulations to the members of the PTHS dance team who earned top honors at the National Competition in Orlando. Out of 34 teams in their division, the Varsity squad finished second overall. In the junior varsity division, our girls finished in first place to take the national title out of 11 teams competing.

PTHS Winter Sports in the Playoffs! Girls Basketball: Section Champions in WPIAL Playoffs Boys Basketball: WPIAL Playoffs Wrestling: Sub Section Champions in WPIAL Playoffs It s been a great winter sports season for our Indians! Best of luck to our Boys and Girls Basketball team and our wrestling team as they head into the playoffs!

McMurray Anti-Bullying Poster Contest Winners First Place: Mikayla Bayer Second Place: Zoe Sanchez Third Place: Aidan Cheek Honorable mention: Tess Prokopchak & Alexandra Kartsonas As part of Red Ribbon Week at McMurray Elementary, the building sponsored an antibullying contest among the students. The winners are listed above.

Family Game Night at Bower Hill Students and their families enjoyed an evening of board games and fun at the school! Bower Hill families enjoyed their annual game night in January with more than 25 different game choices in rooms throughout the building ranging from Chutes and Ladders to Uno Attack. Sponsored annually by the PTA, families stop by for some fun, snacks and even some great raffle prizes. Special thanks to our High School NHS students who volunteered to staff each of the rooms.

Match for a Marine at PTHS Wrestling Boosters, the PT Dance Team and the PT Athletic Department join forces to raise $10,000 for the family! On January 20 th, the Peters Township Wrestling Team hosted Upper St. Clair in the annual Match for a Marine. The joint fundraiser hosted by the PT Wrestling Boosters, the PT Dance Team, and the PT Athletic Department raised over $10,000 for the family of Marine SGT Doug Vitale. In the past 4 years, this effort has raised more than $65,000 for the family.
