FOUNDATIONS OF EXCELLENCE Although all schools within the Trust are different, they all subscribe to the same ethos, exhibiting the five attributes of outstanding educational provision. These simple but effective principles help deliver outstanding outcomes. They are: HIGH EXPECTATION LEADERSHIP Dynamic and skilled leadership from school leaders and governors founded in the core belief that all children can succeed. EXEMPLARY BEHAVIOUR Behaviour for learning based on a set of defined core values that promote professional standards and positive relationships. OUTSTANDING CREATIVE TEACHING Highly skilled teaching that inspires, engages, supports, and challenges learners whatever their starting point. ASSESSMENT THAT INFORMS INTERVENTION Assessment systems that set challenging targets and provide data that supports intervention. A CHALLENGING CURRICULUM A formal curriculum that matches the high expectations of progress, alongside a rich informal curriculum that supports the wider development of each learner.

PART OF THE CITY OF LONDON ACADEMIES TRUST The City of London Academies Trust is driven by the ambition to provide world-class experiences and deliver exceptional educational outcomes for the young people we serve. It s a commitment that s already made us the country s best performing academy sponsor as measured by the new Progress 8 measure. But this is just the beginning. You ll find high expectations in all our schools which are characterised by a common understanding of what makes outstanding education. We base our approach on five key principles which are known as our Foundations of Excellence. Mark Emmerson CEO 5

THE CITY OF LONDON EXPERIENCE AT HIGHGATE HILL Our students are taught in an environment that promotes academic, creative, sporting, linguistic, and personal achievement: this is The City of London Experience. ACADEMIC We do not compromise on students achieving exceptional levels of progress. We are rigorous in our teaching while ensuring that we engage students interest and inspire them to achieve. CREATIVE Creative learning experiences are promoted across all subjects and the creative subjects themselves are highly regarded in our school. SPORTING Our commitment to healthy lifestyles means that we encourage wide participation in sports and fitness. LINGUISTIC Speaking another language is an invaluable life skill in the 21st century, globalised economy. For that reason, every child is expected to study at least one foreign language. PERSONAL We believe that academic success and the wider personal development of students go hand in hand, developing a range of wider personal attributes which will help them to succeed in later life.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR Outdoor and extra-curricular learning supports academic achievement through projects, as well as the development of soft and social skills. We provide a range of extracurricular opportunities, school trips, visits to local businesses, workshops and external speakers. These events promote active learning through direct personal experience and offer excitement, fun and adventure within a framework of safety. Challenging experiences will impact powerfully upon a young person s intellectual, physical, spiritual, social and moral development. It contributes to personal growth and social awareness, developing skills for life in preparation for the world of work. There is also a great deal of intrinsic enjoyment and satisfaction to be experienced from participation in these activities. OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH PARENTS AND CARERS Our partnership with parents and carers plays a crucial role in ensuring students achieve at the highest level. Often parental involvement in a child s education reduces when they reach secondary school. We are committed to ensuring that does not happen.
