A major focus is Year 12 students completing their studies to meet the requirements for their future pathways. Parents please keep up your wonderful support of these students as the stress mounts for many. Support is also available from Teachers and Student Services Staff. OLNA Year 10, 11 and 12's have been sitting these tests as they have two opportunities per year March and September. To meet the WACE Standards for Literacy and Numeracy, students must be successful either at Year 9 NAPLAN or OLNA Standards. This can be completed post Year 12 to meet WACE later. Write a Book in a Day wow, what an opportunity and experience for 3 teams of students. Each group successfully completed the task, starting at 7:30am and finishing at 7:30pm. Thank you to staff that supported them during the day. Farm Billets in Geraldton are for 8 Year 10 and 11 students to explore a range of careers that support businesses in the country. From crayfishing boats, transport, banking, grain sites and working farms, Rabobank staff have provided an exciting week for our students. Yoh Fest last week our students performed 3 dance items and received rave reviews. Thank you to Leonie Richardson and her team. http://us10.campaign archive2.com/?u=2a7b6351213eb7ea99c3b94ac&id=0584234f73 1/10

We strongly suggest that parents continue their Accident Policy Cover from Primary Schools and have Portability Insurance for loss of possessions away from the home. Ambulance Cover for families costs about $70 for 12 months with Private Health Care providers. There is no insurance cover for student accidents or loss of belongings from the Department of Education. Congratulations to Caitlyn in Year 10 who was selected to participate in the 7th Statewide Student Parliament. This was held on 13 15 September at the Parliament of Western Australia. This year we took 2 teams to the Australian International Pedal Prix (AIPP) event in Busselton. We had a Year 10 team using the tricycle donated by Lengineering from 2014 and a newly built tricycle for the Year 7 team. The race was on the foreshore near Busselton Jetty and the race went for 6 hours with students taking turns at riding the tricycle. The Year 10 Mechatronics class modified the 2014 tricycle CANTEEN WINTER MENU by improving the roll cage, adding a door (which formed part of the roll over protection system) and a new outer shell. The Year 10 class also built the new tricycle from scratch using the design of the donated tricycle as a reference point and the 22 pages of race standards from the AIPP. The students shortened the framework by 150mm to accommodate shorter Year 7 students, increased the steering angle by 3 Degrees out to 15 degrees and also added their improved roll over protection system and door. We were one of a handful of teams that successfully past scrutineering at the first attempt the other teams passing at first attempt were the professional tri athlete racing teams. We were also the only school team that built their own tricycle in house and had no help from any outside organisation. The Year 7s finished 2 nd in their division and the Year 10s finished 18 th. We will be going back next year with at least 2 teams and maybe a third, all ages, all girl team. On 21 August, 48 students braved the rain and cold and travelled to the RAC Driver Training facility at the airport. A great deal of interesting and potentially life saving information and experiences were shared by presenters from the RAC Driver Training Team. It was a pity that the race cars could not demonstrate stopping distances due to the rain for students to observe. Thanks to the Crawley Rotary Team for hosting the day for us. RABOBANK FX PROGRAM YEARS 10/11 7 11 SEPTEMBER The FX Program is an educational exchange where students from metropolitan areas are hosted by farmers in a rural area to learn about food and fibre production, agricultural career pathways and rural life. During the program, the hosts spend as much time as possible with the students, sharing their knowledge and allowing the students to experience work on a farm and learn about the production of food and fibre. The students, supervised by the host, assist with the required duties at the time of the visiting period. ROYAL SHOW PREPARATION Two White Suffolk Ewes are advertised as to the quality of our stock that will be on sale at the Perth Royal Show. Students and staff are busy preparing the cattle and sheep for the annual Paraders and sales at the Royal Show. Student Paraders will be on site the morning of Thursday 17 September. Selected Year 10's will be entered into the Farm Skills Competition at the Royal Show on Thursday 24 September. The cattle and sheep competitions are during the school http://us10.campaign archive2.com/?u=2a7b6351213eb7ea99c3b94ac&id=0584234f73 8/10
