Message from James Lawson, Chairman of Trustees - 'I am delighted to report that the MLMT has completed another successful year. We have seen our donations to the 4 charities make a real difference to the lives and activities of the young people they support. Our accounts for year ending January 31, 2017 are in good order with a healthy balance to carry forward. I recently spent time with Tricia at one of the Belvoir Cricket & Countryside Trust's Schools Days we sponsor and it was marvellous to see over 120 children (half from a Nottingham inner city school) playing fast cricket, orienteering and searching for bugs and all manner of creepy crawlies, being shown how gamekeepers control vermin and watching the amazing feats of Birds of Prey. I am sure Martin would have been moved and pleased to see how BCCT touches the lives of so many children - 2700 last year. I would add that our support would not be possible without Tricia's tireless work and commitment' EVENTS HELD IN 2016 included a Supper Party in Manton on July 9 and our 2nd Red Trouser Golf Day at Luffenham Heath Golf Club on September 14 Extracts from our accounts for year ending 31 January, 2017- Income Donations 18,067 Fundraising events 8,315 Gift Aid rebate 7,324 James Sellicks Golf Day 3,182 37,511 Expenditure Grants to: Send a Cow 10,000 Rutland Osprey Project 5,000 Belvoir Cricket & Countryside Trust 10,000 SKRUM 10,000 MNDA (50% from Golf Day) 3,176 Fundraising events costs 1,623 Administration/Website costs 267 40,066 Excess of Expenditure over Income 2,555 Bank balance 31.1.17-27,366.28 (less cheque drawn but not presented until Feb for 2500) = 24,866.28 The full accounts are being audited before submission to the Charity Commission
SEND A COW PROJECT IN WOLAYITA ZONE, ETHIOPIA The 17 Self-Help Groups & 6 School Clubs we support are entering their third and final year working with Send a Cow. Over the last few months 83 families have been provided with hand-dug wells & one spring has been capped which provides access to safe drinking water for 500 families. 8 schools now have water-harvesting structures giving over 8000 children access to water for better sanitation and vegetable gardening in school grounds. School Clubs have enabled children to learn and share experiences with an increase in girls especially reporting they have more confidence, knowledge and self-esteem. www.sendacow.org Registered charity no 299717 RUTLAND OSPREY PROJECT We have provided a new camera and TV screen in the new 'children-friendly' Hide overlooking Manton Bay, where there is a permanent memorial to Martin. In 2016 we funded the publication of 3 books for children 'Be an Osprey Expert', 'Ozzy's Return' and 'Ozzie Leads the Way' and binoculars for use by schoolchildren when they visit the Hide. www.ospreys.org.uk
