MINUTES WEST LAFAYETTE COMMUNITY SCHOOL CORPORATION 1130 N. Salisbury Street West Lafayette, Indiana REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF SCHOOL TRUSTEES Monday October 2, 2017 PRESENT: Mr. Alan R. Karpick; Dr. Karen S. Springer; Mr. Bradley Marley; Mrs. Rachel Witt; Mr. Thomas H. Schott; Mr. Brian J. Bittner Mrs. Melissa Prochnau; Mr. Robert C. Reiling, Jr.; Mr. Ross Sloat; and Dr. Rocky Killion, Superintendent. President Karpick called the meeting to order at 6:35 P.M. I. ROUTINE BUSINESS A. A motion was made to approve the agenda for the Monday October 2, 2017, Regular Meeting of the Board of School Trustees. Motion by: Mrs. Witt Seconded by: Mr. Marley Vote: 7 of 7 B. A motion was made to approve the minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Board of School Trustees held on September 5, 2017. Motion by: Dr. Springer Seconded by: Mr. Schott Vote: 7 of 7 II. III. IV. COMMUNICATION FROM THE AUDIENCE - None UNFINISHED BUSINESS None NEW BUSINESS A. Academic Achievement IDOE Accountability/ADM Update Dr. Killion reported the corporation school grades will be coming out and according to the data all schools will be grade A. Student increase is at 53 students for this school year. And the National School Board Association has invited our Board to present at the National Conference in San Antonio April 7-9, 2018 regarding the success of our referendum. B. Cumberland Bids Recommendation: Dr. Killion recommended the Board of School Trustees approve the bids recommended by Kettlehut Construction CMC for the Cumberland project. A motion was made that the Board of School Trustees approve the bids recommended by Kettlehut Construction CMC. Motion by: Mrs. Prochnau Seconded by: Dr. Springer Vote: 7 of 7 C. School Board Policies 5000s Series First Reading Dr. Killion presented the 5000 series of the Board policies for a first reading. Two policies are still under review by Bob Reiling and the Jr. Sr. High School. Discussion ensued. 1

D. Adoption of Budgets, CPF Plan and Transportation Recommendation: Mr. Sloat recommended that the Board of School Trustees approve the adoption of the 2018 Budgets, CPF Plan, Transportation and Resolutions. Adopted Budget $37,331,078 Adopted Levy $18,315,510 Adopted Tax Rate 2.4608% (Final approved rate will be lower than projected) Final budget approval from the state is expected between Dec 2017 and Feb 2018. Resolutions: 2018 Budget Resolution, 2018 Capital Projects, 2018 Bus Replacement, Transfers, Reduce Line 1 & 2. A motion was made that the Board of School Trustees to adopt the 2018 Budget, CPF Plan, Transportation and Resolutions. Motion by: Mr. Bittner Seconded by: Mr. Marley Vote: 7 of 7 E. Common School Fund Recommendation: Dr. Killion recommended the Board of School Trustees approve to accept the $70, 220 award from Department of Education Common School Fund Loan and to continue to apply for future Funding loans. The award will be for future technology needs for future construction projects. Loan is paid through debt service. A motion was made that the Board of School Trustees approve the Common School Fund award and to continue to apply for future funds. Motion by: Mrs. Witt Seconded by: Dr. Springer Vote: 7 of 7 F. Pro Resources Recommendation: Mr. Sloat recommended to the Board of School Trustees approve the agreement from Pro Resource. This agency will provide custodial applicants and food service applicants for the corporation. A motion was made that the Board of School Trustees approve the Pro Resource agreement. Motion by: Mrs. Prochanu Seconded by: Mr. Schott Vote: 7 of 7 G. Out of State Field Trip Recommendation: Mr. Karpick recommended the School Board of Trustees approve the Field Trips. H.S. Art Class to Art Institute & Oriental Museum of Art, Chicago, IL Nov. 8, 2017 A motion was made that the Board of School Trustees to approve the above listed Field Trip. Motion by: Dr. Springer Seconded by: Mrs. Prochanu Vote: 7 of 7 H. Personnel Report Recommendation: Dr. Killion recommended that the Board of School Trustees approve all information contained in the report. 2

A motion was made that the Board of School Trustees approve the administrative requests and names reflected in the Personnel Report. Motion by: Mr. Marley Seconded by: Mrs. Witt Vote: 7 of 7 I. Accounts Payable Vouchers Recommendation: Mr. Sloat recommended that the Board approve the audited claims in the report. The total claims paid: $1,968,970.93. Payments include GLASS, reimbursements to new teachers for orientation, Cumberland Elem. tables and chairs, and Roof Moisture Management for survey. A motion was made that the Board of School Trustees approve the audited vouchers as presented. Motion by: Dr. Springer Seconded by: Mr. Marley Vote: 7 of 7 V. INFORMATION TO THE BOARD none VI. BOARD AND SUPERINTENDENT REPORTS Parks & Rec Karen Springer reported a ribbon cutting was held on Kingston in front of Happy Hollow Elem. for the trail extension, which now brings the West Lafayette trails to 32 miles. Redevelopment Brian Bittner reported work continuing on roads, and the purchase of lawnmower and police vehicles. WLSEF- Rachel Witt reported a new student council representative gave a report to the Foundation, Teacher grant deadline is Oct. 27, 2017, Wall of Pride is scheduled for October 2018, and Westside Story is April 21, 2018 at the Lafayette Country Club. Public School Foundation Melissa Prochnau reported Cupcake Run was successful, Grant Reception will be held second week of November 2017. Community Council Melissa Prochnau reported there is lots of professional development in process. And Parent Council is now a 501c3. WLSEF Tom Schott reported Homecoming is this week and the theme is Wizard of OZ. Negotiations Brad Marley reported negotiations went well.
