More Information about Port Royal Public School Literacy Our goal is to have the vast majority of students achieving at the Provincial standard of Level 3. We will focus our efforts to help move students to achieve at a higher level. Some of the strategies and actions we will use are: higher-order thinking skills (e.g. reasoning, analysing, drawing conclusions); asking better questions; and giving descriptive feedback. Numeracy Some students struggle with multiple choice and open response type questions in all math strands. Our goal is that most students will be able to demonstrate their thinking in open response while problem solving at level 3. All grades will participate in problem solving activities using differentiated instruction such as, using manipulatives, visuals and hands on tasks. Pathways Our goal is to improve our reading scores such that the vast majority of students are achieving at or above the provincial standard of level 3. Some of the strategies and actions we will use are: early identification of problems, guided reading groups, differentiated instruction, the Boys Book Club, reading clubs, after school mentoring, and Kids Now. Community Culture and Caring Student safety is our priority. We have implemented the Parent Safety Program, in partnership with Toronto Police and Parking Enforcement Officers. Staff and student volunteers assist students getting out of their cars every morning and escort young students to their entry doors. We also support our community through food drives, fundraising, Newcomer's Club and Kids Now.
