Congratulations to Fifth Grade for collecting the most pop tabs this year! A total of 48 pounds of tabs were collected to donate to the Ronald McDonald House Charities. Fifth Grade wins a stinky feet pass! Our totals per grade are as follows: Kindergarten - 9 pounds First Grade - 11 pounds Second Grade - 2 pounds Third Grade - 9 pounds Fourth Grade - 5 pounds FIFTH GRADE - 12 POUNDS Celebration of Learning Our Celebration of Learnings are quickly approaching. Our students are so excited about this and we know you are as well. Please give yourself ample time to check-in before the celebration. We are requesting that balloons, flowers, gifts, etc. not be brought to this event. If these items are brought to school, you will be asked to leave them in the front office while you attend the party. Remaining Accelerated Reader Celebrations: Library News The Accelerated Reader Level 3 Popcorn With the Librarian celebrations are underway. Please remember, the library must receive a signed permission slip in order for your child to attend. If you have misplaced your child s permission slip, there are extras available in the library. Although our school library has closed, we hope you will continue to reinforce your child s reading skills over the summer by joining the summer reading program sponsored by the Cinco Ranch Public Library. This library is located at 2620 Commercial Center Blvd., Katy. A librarian from the Cinco Ranch Public Library will be speaking to all students about this program on Tuesday, May 31 st. Also, the KISD Elementary Librarians have compiled a list of book recommendations for all elementary-age students. Bookopolis: Library News Continued... Our 2 nd and 5 th graders were recently invited to explore Bookopolis with their classmates (https:// bookopolis.com/#/ ), an online community for young readers that helps ignite a love of reading by letting students connect with friends to share their favorite books. In 2015, the American Association for School Librarians selected Bookopolis a Best Website for Teaching and Learning. In Bookopolis, students can: Create virtual bookshelves of books they ve read, are reading now, or want to read Rate and review books to practice opinion writing Complete book reports to practice comprehension and critical thinking Track daily or weekly reading in an online reading log Connect with friends to see what books they ve read Explore new book ideas and reviews from curated lists and other Bookopolis readers Earn points and badges for their reading achievements Bookopolis is a free site that is compliant with COPPA (child online safety standards.) The creator is a parent and book club facilitator, Kari Riedel. Email her directly with any questions or suggestions you have about the site kari@bookopolis.com. Your child has completed the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) for his/ her enrolled grade level. Student test results are indicated on the Confidential Student Report (CSR) and will not be delivered to districts until mid-june. Campuses will send home Confidential Student Reports (CSRs) by Thursday, September 1, 2016. This does not include STAAR grades 5 and 8 mathematics and reading test administrations. The Confidential Student Report (CSR) for the STAAR grades 5 and 8 mathematics and reading will be provided to parents before the end of the school year. Beginning on Thursday, June 30, 2016, parents may view their child s 2016 STAAR 3-8 test results using either the Home Access Center (HAC) or the state Student Data Portal. If you do not have internet access during the summer, please contact your child s campus. In order to access the Student Portal, parents must have the child s Unique Access Code and the date of birth. The Unique Access Code: remains the same for the student during the entire state testing program, located on any past Confidential Student Report (CSR) in the bottom right corner of the CSR, and located in the Home Access Center (HAC). STAAR RESULTS NOTIFICATION INFO The back of this letter contains the directions on how to obtain test scores and the unique access code. OKE TECH CAMP We will once again be hosting a Tech Camp this summer. More information and applications were sent home today. Tech Camp is open to all currently enrolled Kinder through 5th grade students at OKE (current student means they were enrolled in Kindergarten through 5th grade for the 2015-2016 school year). The cost is $90 CASH per student. Tech Camp will be July 25-27, 2016 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Students will have the opportunity to learn about new ways to use the ipads that are in the classrooms. We will be introducing several new apps and other cool things. Registration will be first come first serve. It will be limited to the first 25 students in grades K-2 and the first 25 students in grades 3-5. All proceeds go to purchasing additional technology for classrooms. Registration is now open in the front office.

2016 2017 Registration Dates & Times ALL REGISTRATION TIMES ARE 8:00AM 12:00PM (UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED) NOTE: Parents/authorized adults must first electronically register their child by going to www.katyisd.org/registration and selecting New Student Registration. This process may be done from any computer or hand-held device. Parents/authorized adults are also required to go to the appropriate campus during the dates and times specified below in order to complete the registration process. Parents who arrive after the scheduled ending time will be asked to return on the next scheduled registration day to finalize enrollment.
