SHREVEWOOD ELEMENTARY PTA WISE OWLS BEFORE AFTER SCHOOL ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS SCHEDULE OF CLASSES FALL 2016 The Shrevewood PTA presents another session of before and after school programs! Class dates and times are listed below. More detailed class descriptions are located on the Shrevewood PTA website. ( http://shrevewoodelementary.ch2v.com ). Online registration is available for all classes. If paying by check, please fill out the registration form located on the last page. Please do not send cash. Any questions can be directed to programs@shrevewoodpta.org. All classes will be held at Shrevewood Elementary School. Any child attending SACC can also attend before and after school programs. Please send a snack with your child to be eaten before class begins in the afternoon. Classes can fill quickly, so sign up early. If the minimum number of students is not met, the class may be cancelled. See registration form below. Classes are not in session when school is not in session. Afternoon classes will not run on early release days. Morning classes will not run on two hour delay days. Some weather related delays and closings will be made up after the session ends. REGISTER ONLINE http://shrevewoodelementary.ch2v.com OR BY CHECK SEE FORM ON LAST PAGE Class Class Description Materials Grades Dates Times $$ Intro to SCRATCH Programming by Roman s Creative Kids Art Class by Mrs. Gates Beginning Spanish by VIPkids Scratch (scratch.mit.edu) is a graphical programming language created at the MIT MediaLab to introduce mathematical and computational ideas to elementary students in a fun and engaging manner. It is an excellent introduction to computer programming for elementary age children. Laptop computers, software and all necessary supplies and materials will be provided. Do you love art? Explore different mediums such as paper mache, wire, canvas and paint to show your creativity. **some projects will be a repeat from prior sessions if your child has taken this class previously** VIPkids is an interactive program in which children are encouraged to develop a curiosity for the Spanish language and Latin American culture. Math Boosters by Roman s Students begin with Khan Academy s adaptive warm up exercises to accurately identify areas of weakness. Then our math coaches use an innovative new curriculum that uses math games to bolster their skills and self confidence. Students will improve their understanding with fun and challenging math games played individually or collectively. Laptop computers, software and all other supplies and materials will be provided. 1st 6th 8:00 9:00am Ends 11/30 Chess Club by Silver Knights All chess skill levels are welcome even beginners! Children work with chess experts according to their level. Thursdays @ 8:00 9:00am $125 *ipad Photography Yoga Say Cheese! Learn various photography and editing skills through the lens of an ipad. Each participant will receive 1 8x10 framed photo, 1 4x6 hand painted frame and 2 4x6 prints. This class develops focus, flexibility, strength, and coordination through a variety of yoga poses, stories, music, sing a longs, drawings and games. These classes enhance energy while teaching children how to remain calm and centered. Children learn basic yoga movements in a fun, relaxed setting, which always promotes doing their personal best in a non competitive environment. Other benefits of yoga include increased patience, posture, confidence, and self esteem. Classes are set up with kid friendly hip hop music, movements, and routines. Hip Hop Dance is a great fit for children and it creates an environment of excitement around being healthy and active! *STEAM Keva Planks and Rube Goldberg Machines Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math! Challenge your brain with block puzzles and create a Rube Goldberg machine where the transfers of energy are limitless! Space is limited so register early! RM 202 Jr. Chem Lab by Roman s This class introduces students to an array of different scientific principles through weekly interactive, hands on science experiments. Students will perform experiments teaching them about acid and bases, surface tension, states of matter, chromatography, polymers and more. All experiments use safe, household supplies. **this class is a repeat of previous sessions** Drawing by Young Rembrandts WE MAKE DRAWING FUN! Students develop drawing skills, visual spatial planning and art appreciation. Stepwise instruction inspires students' independent drawings, including seasonal, realistic and abstract images. Curriculum is varied and challenging, with new, engaging drawing lessons every week, and every session. 4th 6th ART ROOM $130 Cooking by Mrs. Gates Explore the world of cooking with this hands on class. Kids will learn how to make a variety of foods using fresh ingredients. Throughout the class, we will compile the recipes into a book so that they can be used at home! 4:20 5:20pm ROOM 120 Ends 12/7 NO CLASS 11/23

Sports Mix *STEAM Sphero Ball 2.0 Jr. and Sr. Minecraft by Roman s Beginner Golf by Overtime Athletics Sports Mix includes Run Club, Flag Football, Basketball and Soccer. During basketball, flag football, and soccer, athletes start with warm ups, move on to learn the basics of dribbling, shooting, passing, and catching, and then form team to scrimmage. During Run Club, students run for fun and practice the fundamentals of walking, power walking, jogging, running and sprinting so they can learn to pace themselves and run further each class. Sports Mix is all about fun fitness and learning new skills. It's a great way to be active and constructive after the school day! Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math! Develop various mazes to run and challenge Sphero Ball (a hand controlled robot) and create a racing outfit to make things a little bit more interesting! Space is limited so register early! Experienced Minecraft builders will have the opportunity to use what they already know and beginners will be taught the basics. Students will learn to power blocks and create automatic lights and farms. Intermediate and advanced students will work with a variety of mods and team based puzzle challenges. Parents must purchase the game and register children for a Mojang account prior to the start of class. Laptop computers, software and all other supplies and materials will be provided. Finally, a format that keeps the FUN of golf, but gets rid of the frustration. Pitch and Putt Golf has all the kids chirping like birdies! Our program, powered by SNAG Golf Equipment, is a safe and encouraging game that introduces new players to the joy of golf. The SNAG system of golf is a fun, easy to use equipment for beginner golf that combines simplified rules and terminology to learn golf anywhere and at any age. Each segment of our program has players implementing the skills they have been taught including GRIP, STANCE, AIM, SWING, and PUTTING. Registration Form If paying by check, please place this form with your check (made out to Shrevewood PTA) in an envelope marked After School Programs. Your child may bring the registration back to his/her teacher, or you may drop it off in the front office. Please do not send cash. Checks should be made out to Shrevewood PTA Registration forms due by October 7th! Important note for after school classes please pick up your child no later than 5:20. Late pick ups may result in a fee to the vendor or teacher.
