Holy Family Primary School Newsletter 199 The Trongate, Granville East 2142 Phone: 9637 6020 Fax: 9637 8464 Email: HolyFamilyEGranville@parra.catholic.edu.au Website: http://www.hfgranville.catholic.edu.au Wednesday 4th May 2016 Term 2 Week 2 Jesus Helps Us To Love This Term Year Two is learning about how we belong to the Church community. Making our Baptism is a very special time because this is when we are welcomed into God s family and become one of his children. We made some freeze frames to show the symbols of Baptism. Pouring water over the forehead is a symbol of Baptism. Wearing a white garment is a symbol of being pure and clean Lighting a candle is a symbol of Baptism because Jesus guides us on the right path In Christ we Live, Love and Learn.

We congratulate this week s Student of the Week Award recipients: Kindy Amelia Cagiloaloa & Victoria Hutchinson Year 1 Ali Maan Naqvi & Patrick Kirby Year 2 Melissa El Hayek & Eliane El Ghoubaira Year 3 Paul Laoulach & Madison Saouma Year 4 Brayden Vu & Erica Chen Year 5 Jeffrey El Kady & Lucy Arida Year 6 Janis Silverwood & Mikaylla Chakoush Principal s Message New Fundraising Committee Last Thursday we held our first Fundraising Committee meeting. The meeting was very well attended. During the meeting we established our working norms and expectations and elected a Committee Coordinator. I am happy to announce that Mrs Josephine Valore has taken up the role for this year. Many ideas were generated during a very lively discussion. This term the committee has set up a challenge for our school. We are going to take up the 10c challenge. The idea is for children to bring in, with parent permission, any 10c pieces they have at home. 10c may seem like a small amount, however many 10 cent pieces collected will raise funds for the school. Please refer to the flyer that went home this week. I wish to thank the committee for the generosity of their time and their creative spirit. NAPLAN Next week the children in Years 3 and 5 will complete NAPLAN. This assessment provides the school with vital information regarding the individual successes of each student and also data related to school performance. From this data, the school generates learning goals geared to whole school improvement. Parents, I ask you to please ensure your child is at school on time next week as the tests begin at 9am. Winter Uniforms The students need to be in full winter uniform this term. As the weather is still warm, parents may choose for children to attend school in summer uniform. By Monday the 9th of May, all students must be in full winter uniform. Thank you for your continued support in ensuring all students wear their uniform with pride. Swimming Program Thank you to the parents that returned the survey for the swimming program. As stated in the survey the decision was made on the majority. We had 64 YES and 26 NO. therefore the swimming program will go ahead as usual in Term 4. In Christ we Live, Love and Learn.

Principal s Message A Champion in the making Many of our families who receive the Parramatta Advertiser would have seen a very familiar face in the sports section of the 20th of April edition. Our very own Anbarasan Mitchell ( Year 5) drew the attention of the media showcasing his outstanding successes on the golf course. Recently Anbarasan took out the Tyro Shield with his teammates and has received sponsorship to help him continue his golfing dream. I am very proud to share with our community the exciting news that Anbarasan has been nominated for the Parramatta Advertiser Junior Sports Star Award. Anbarasan, you have the support of the community behind you. Just so you know, you are already a star in our eyes. Good luck. Mothers Day I wish to sincerely thank Mrs Hutchinson, Mrs Yacoub, Mrs Laoulach, Mrs Feher-Hegarty, Mrs Toubia, Mrs Valore and Mrs Gessese for the generosity of time given in wrapping our gifts for the Mothers Day stall. Our appreciations and gratitude from the community at Holy Family. Mothers Day Events Just a reminder about our Mothers Day picnic on Friday at 1pm til 2pm. I invite parents to bring a packed lunch and a picnic blanket and share a lovely afternoon with friends and family. Following our Picnic we will unite in prayer and celebrate the gift of our mothers. The Liturgy will take place on P2. I wish to thank Fr Andrew for sharing this very special Liturgy with our community. Cross Country Team On Tuesday our cross county squad participated in the Diocesan Cross Country Carnival. Our team performed their best on the day. A big thank you to the teachers and parents who went along to support our team.

Holy Family Primary School, Granville East From the Fundraising Committee In isolation 10 cents is not much, BUT collectively these little silver coins will raise funds for our school. SO We have decided to accept the challenge, we hope you do too. All you need to do is bring in your 10c pieces to school during the month of May. Your child's teacher will have a jar where you can donate your 10c pieces. This fundraising will last for all of May. Let s see what our school can achieve. So let s get collecting.
