Second Quarter AVID Adventures Second quarter was a great time to be an AVID student at Riverglen! The seventh graders all enjoyed an awesome field trip to Boise State University, where they toured the engineering department. We got to see what it's like on a college campus and experiment with engineering professors and students riding a segway, using a thermal heat powered camera, 3-D printer, powering machines through energy, and exploring the world through interactive 3D glasses. Afterwards, we enjoyed some fun team-building time at Jump Time. The 8th grade classes second quarter theme for AVID 8 was Season of Service. With the help of guest speakers and a trip to the Idaho Food Bank to volunteer our time, we learned about non profits in our community. The 9th graders had a special opportunity to attend the annual college fair, where they were able to mingle with college reps and explore options for colleges near and far. 9th grade students will be attending an AVID orientation day at Capital high school on January 21, where they will be able to meet fellow AVID students from Fairmont, tour Capital, visit honors and AP classes, and have some fun. ALL Riverglen AVID students will kick off Semester 2 with some team-building fun Jan. 21 in the afternoon. We are super excited to be adding fourteen new AVID students to the program next semester! Lastly, a special shout-out to Jose Duran, Sanaa Abdukarim, and Rosie Wilson, who were honored as Riverglen Students of the Month last semester. Way to go grizzlies! 5
