It s an activity-packed day and a half beginning Friday afternoon and running through Saturday evening. I encourage you to make a special effort to join UC Davis School of Medicine (SOM) leadership, faculty, and staff, along with your friends and classmates for this celebration on the UC Davis Sacramento campus. If you are a MD, residency and/or fellowship graduate, this is your weekend to be on campus with the purpose of reconnecting, reminiscing, and learning more about everything that is great about your medical alma mater. Hear from the Dean as well as our stellar faculty and staff leaders. Meet the current crop of UC Davis medical students. Tour spots you may have never seen before. Schedule of Events Friday 1 6 p.m. Check-in and Hospitality All Alumni Weekend activities will take place on the School of Medicine campus in Sacramento. Start off the festivities at the Medical Education Building (4610 X St.) where you will pick up your Alumni Weekend nametag, swag and schedule (with event locations). It s also a great spot to meet up with friends and family in between events. 1:30, 2:30, 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. Medical Campus Tours These student-guided walking tours will offer a great overview of the entire medical campus. See what s new since the last time you visited campus. 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. In-depth Site Tours and Presentations Choose from several opportunities for insider tours of select sites on the medical campus and hear presentations from key staff and faculty. It is a chance to get a closer look at some of our state-of-the-art facilities and hear about some of the amazing work happening within those facilities. 1:30 p.m. n The Fetal Therapy Program at UC Davis Get an insider s look from bench to bedside with Dr. Aijun Wang, Ph.D., assistant professor, Department of Surgery; co-director, surgical bioengineering laboratory, stem cell research program; and Shinjiro Hirose, M.D., chief of the Division of Pediatric General, Thoracic and Fetal Surgery, associate professor of surgery; and director of pediatric surgery, Shriner s Hospitals for Children-Northern California. 2 UC DAVIS SCHOOL OF MEDICINE ALUMNI WEEKEND 2016

n UC Davis Center for Health and Technology (CHT) The CHT is one of the University of California s premiere facilities for advancing innovation in clinical telehealth, health education and research. Hosted by Thomas Nesbitt 75, M.D. 79, M.P.H., associate vice chancellor for strategic technologies and alliances, this tour will provide interactive demonstrations and a look at how technologies are being integrated into the UC Davis Schools of Health curriculum. n UC Davis Children s Hospital Sacramento region s only nationally-ranked, comprehensive hospital for children and the Central Valley s only level 1 pediatric trauma center and emergency department, this 129-bed hospital includes neonatal, pediatric and pediatric cardiac intensive care units and is renowned for its telemedicine capabilities. Get an in-depth look at and learn about this state-of-the-art facility and its technology on this special guided tour. 3:30 p.m. n UC Davis Institute for Regenerative Cures (IRC) See and hear about the future of medicine on this tour of the IRC the home of the University s stem cell program. Get a glimpse of the labs and manufacturing facility and hear from some of the members of the team who are advancing the science of regenerative medicine through collaborative, cutting-edge research, leading to breakthrough discoveries and clinical trials designed to bring stem cell therapies and cures to patients everywhere. n Center for Health and Technology (repeat see 1:30 p.m.) n UC Davis Children s Hospital (repeat see 1:30 p.m.) All Alumni Welcome Reception 6-7:30 p.m. A great opportunity to see long lost classmates and old friends along with the Dean, faculty leaders, and your School of Medicine Alumni Association (SOMAA) Board of Directors. All Alumni Weekend activities will take place on the School of Medicine campus in Sacramento. 8 9 a.m. Casual Breakfast Buffet ($) Start your very full day off right with a light breakfast buffet including delicious local fare. Alumni Weekend (AW) Forums 9 and 10 a.m. 2 and 3 p.m. With four 45-minute sessions throughout the day and two choices each session, these talks offer an opportunity to hear from some of our stellar medical faculty and staff. Offerings include health and wellness hot button issues; cutting-edge research and clinical work; and that was then, this is now looks at how the School of Medicine has changed and is evolving.
