Saint Pius X Catholic School Newsletter October 6, 2016 Dear Saint Pius X Family and Friends, Mrs. Flynt has been away this week, attending the International Stewardship Conference with Monsignor and a couple of church staff members, studying and working hard to align our stewardship efforts with our outstanding parish, so I have been given the honor of being the guest author of this week s principal s letter. It has truly been another outstanding week here at St. Pius X Catholic School. The final numbers from the second annual Catch a Comet Fun Run were announced to our students at this week s school-wide pep rally. The final total raised by our students was over $61,420!!! Thank you, again, to Julie Trindel and Ellen Deskins for making this event so amazing! As Mrs. Flynt stated last week, we are absolutely blessed by the generous support we receive from the parents and families of Saint Pius X School, and we are in awe of the energy, talents, and enthusiasm of our amazing students and devoted staff. I am humbled and at the same time so very grateful to have the opportunity to serve this incredible school community as assistant principal. This week saw our students in grades two through eight participating in annual testing. Thank you to our Student Learning Support Specialist, Mrs. Tanahey, and our Guidance Counselor, Ms. Joyce, for their hard work and dedication in serving as test coordinators. Mrs. Tanahey has reported that everything went smoothly and that our students stepped up to this challenging week with aplomb. If your student missed school during this week, we will schedule make-up testing with him/her next week. In addition, grades 5 and 7 will complete their OLSAT testing next week. We would like to wish good luck and good sportsmanship to our volleyball teams as they head off to compete in the PECSAA tournament, starting Friday, October 7. Please visit the following link for tournament details: http://www.pecsaa.com/volleyball.html. Please remember the St. Pius X School Hearty Soup Drive will take place Monday, October 10, through Friday, October 14. Donations will be delivered to Urban Ministries of Greensboro the day of our Living Rosary (October 14). Also taking place on Friday, October 14 (7:00 9:30 p.m.), will be Middle School Night Out. Student Council, under the guidance of Ms. Foster and Mr. Malone, is very busy planning a fun evening for grades 6-8 featuring a live DJ, dancing, games, and food trucks. Dress is casual, and we look forward to our students gathering with their friends for a fun-filled event! The Knights of Columbus is partnering with St. Pius X School on a Belk department stores fundraiser. Many people are familiar with the Private sales that take place in October and November major discounts on rarely discounted brands. In order to enter Belk stores on select days and at special times, you must have a $5.00 ticket, which you can purchase in advance from the Knights of Columbus or St. Pius X School parents outside Belk at Friendly Center. (Tickets will also be available in the Main Office and after masses outside the church.) 100% of the proceeds from ticket sales will be given to St. Pius X School for a couple of special projects the Knights of Columbus are working on with us. More details to come! Our school is a special place because of the people in the building(s), and because of all those who consistently support and partner with us. Thank you to all of our families, and special thanks to our students and staff for all that they do and for being the wonderful people they are. Have a safe and enjoyable weekend. We look forward to seeing everyone on Monday! Many Blessings, C. J. Kloesz Chris Kloesz, M.Ed. Assistant Principal

If you did not turn in the form that was included in the Thursday envelope, you still can. Ask a neighbor or another friend to link to our school s number as well, you will be surprised who will say YES! If you would like to have the slips with our number on them, they are available in the school office. You can also ask your cashier in the Harris Teeter check-out line to link or relink your card to #1852. Don t forget, your VIC Card must be re-linked every year beginning in August.
