Ernest Bevin College and Sixth Form Centre Sixth Form Prospectus Outstanding Sixth Form Centre for boys & girls (aged 16-19) in SW London

Bevin believes in.. respect, opportunity, happiness, resilience, tolerance

SUCCESS FOR ALL EBC Sixth Form offers a comprehensive range of courses including A Levels and BTECs, making it a popular choice for post-16 studies. Our Sixth Formers are highly successful in their examinations and we have established links with employers and universities to help our Sixth Formers secure university places, apprenticeships and jobs. Each year over 100 Sixth Formers leave Ernest Bevin to take up places at university on courses ranging from Medicine & Law, Computer Science and Economics. Two thirds of our leavers go on to study a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths) related subject, many at Russell Group universities. Students achieve high grades in both A Levels and BTEC courses, and the excellent results obtained in vocational subjects are recognised as some of the best in Wandsworth. Many of our Sixth Formers have been with us at EBC since joining the lower school, but we are also very pleased to welcome a number of new students, including several young women, to join our co-educational Sixth Form. We work hard to ensure all our Sixth Formers settle and get the most out of their time here. Students are encouraged to take part in extra-curricular activities, sport and trips. So for a supportive and challenging Sixth Form environment we think you can t beat EBC and I hope you will consider joining our success story. Rukhsana Sheikh, Principal The energetic and determined leadership of the Sixth Form is driving its rapid development. Teaching in the Sixth Form is consistently good or better. Ofsted 2011

SUPPORT AND ENCOURAGEMENT EBC provides the highest quality Post-16 teaching in a supportive learning environment. The majority of EBC students continue their studies at the college because they know the staff and know they will continue to receive a high level of personal care as individuals. We also welcome a number of external students each year and we go above and beyond to welcome every student to the Sixth Form, running a Meet & Greet for new students as well as taster sessions in July and an Induction Day in September. Each student is assigned a tutor group and the tutor is the first point of contact for students and their parents. The Head of Year and Head of Sixth Form also closely monitor each student s progress and ensure they follow the correct course. The staff of over 70 specialist teachers deliver high quality lessons and facilitate creative thinking. As well as preparing their students for exams, they will offer guidance on coursework and give regular feedback to students so they are able to be successful. All students have a careers lesson once a week and interviews with our Careers Advisor to ensure they are able to progress on to the next stage of their education or career. They are given one to one help filling in application forms and writing personal statements. I came to Ernest Bevin in the Sixth Form because it offered the course I wanted to study. You can t just sit and wait for people to give you that golden dream. You ve got to get out there and make it happen for yourself. Naomi, Business Studies

NEW CHALLENGES Post-16 education is meant to be exciting and challenging. At EBC you will be encouraged to take part in activities beyond the curriculum and acquire new skills. Wednesday afternoons are set aside for these enrichment (or learning beyond the curriculum) activities and no lessons are time-tabled. The list below are just some of the activities you can take part in: Extended Project Qualification Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme Combined Cadet Force (Royal Marines) Cricket Academy Athletics Academy Art or Photography Music lessons or join a band Performing Arts or theatre appreciation Debating Society Robotics club Cultural visits to London s museums, galleries and places of historical interest Mentoring younger pupils at the college and reading at a local Primary School Voluntary work with the young, elderly or vulnerable in our community Sport and fitness either participating or as a coach Careers talks and work experience opportunities Learn a new language, eg Mandarin In addition to the Wednesday afternoon programme, our Sixth Form students are offered opportunities to travel abroad. Recent trips have included Business Studies trips to New York and Madrid, ICT trips to Paris and trips to China and the CERN Physics Laboratory in Switzerland. The college embraces opportunities to develop students understanding of communities beyond their own, such as through the joint curriculum project with a school in China, Ofsted 2011

WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP In 2016 Ernest Bevin became one of a handful of schools in the UK to received STEM Assured Status in recognition of our sustained excellence in Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths (and Computing & Art) subject areas. Ernest Bevin is committed to forging ever stronger links with employers and universities in this key sector. We also work in partnership with sporting organisations including Greenhouse Sports, Tooting & Mitcham United FC, Twenty20 Cricket and Hercules Athletics to maximise the opportunities available to our elite young sportsmen in the Sixth Form. Students on these programmes have their academic lessons timetabled to complement their training commitments. They also have access to expert coaches and support such as Physiotherapy, Strength & Conditioning and Nutrition. Our links with Greenhouse provides some of the best programmes for judo, table tennis and volleyball anywhere in the UK. The Greenhouse coaches offer the highest level of coaching to those who excel in these sports and they compete at National level. In 2017 Ernest Bevin launched a Sixth Form Cricket Academy in partnership with Twenty20 cricket who provide coaching and matches for our elite cricketers. The college works in partnership with Tooting & Mitcham United FC to provide academic pathways for up to 40 football academy apprentices in the Sixth Form. Their Sixth Form lessons are timetabled around their football and training commitments.
