Holy Cross School News April 2016 Principal s Message Dear Parents and Guardians: We recently completed a successful parent teacher conference on March 22nd and 23rd. These two designated days provided parents and guardians with another opportunity to meet and discuss with teaching staff about their children s academic performance. www.holycrossschool.mb.ca Voice (204) 237-4936 Fax (204) 237-7433 acap@holycrossschool.mb.ca This year our Spring Break falls on March 23, and ends on the 4th of April. A reminder that classes will resume on Tuesday April 5th, 2016. Be sure to have a safe spring break and to find time to enjoy yourself. Good Friday falls on March 25 and it is the Friday before Easter Sunday. Easter is an important event to Christians because it celebrates the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. HOLY CROSS SCIENCE FAIR This year in the Holy Cross School, (300 Dubuc St, Winnipeg), under the Kids New Horizons program, we are holding a Science Fair on April 12, 2016. Students from Grades 5-8 in our school will be doing research projects to meet curriculum expectations in inquiry, design and communication. This exercise also provides an opportunity for students to explore areas of personal interest in Science and Technology. Although the science fair is for the grade 5-8 students, the entire school population (about 300), Staff (27) and about 290 families will be engaged in this activity. I would like to extend my invitation to all Holy Cross Families and friends to come and see our research/inquiry based Science Fair. Project judging will be during 8:30-11:30 AM and 12:30-1:15 PM; and Public Viewing of our students projects will be from 1:15-2:00 PM. Awards ceremony will be between 2:30-3:00 pm. As we want to focus on science and we would like you to interview some kids about their projects. You will find about 100 plus students from Grade 5-8 showcasing their Science Fair Projects, models, displays and live presentations. We are inviting Mr. Chuck LaFleche CEO St. Boniface Hospital Foundation and Dr. Pawan K. Sinagl (Director, ICS, SBRC) as a Chief Guest. There will be some Profs from U of MB, Research Scientists from St. Boniface Research centre as a Science Fair Judges. Winners of the Science Fair will be competing at the Province wide and National wide competitions. It would be good opportunity for everyone. There will be roughly 200-250 people including students, staff and community members. If necessary, myself and Mr. Alexander Cap, Principal, of Holy Cross School will be available to respond to any questions you may have about the Holy Cross Science fair 2016. Yours in Science, Dr. Bajaj
