Filton College in Bristol The Bristol Academy at Filton College We are part of the United Kingdom s state sector and are a major provider of further and higher education and vocational training. There are 2,500 full-time and 10,000 part-time students, including more than 200 international students from 50 different countries throughout the world. In 2010 our English as a Foreign Language department was named by the EL Gazette as a joint Top Centre of Excellence in the Further Education Sector (based on the British Council Inspectors' publishable statements). The college scored seven points of excellence, one of only five institutions in the UK to do so. Bristol even beat London in these rankings. The seven points of excellence included the teaching programme, quality of teaching, qualifications of teaching staff, self-access facilities, publicity, the tutorial system, and the trips and social events programme. The Academy of Sport enables students to pursue their sporting interests while obtaining academic qualifications from our wide range of further and higher education qualifications. They will choose an appropriate full-time course and in addition receive up to 16 hours of professional sports training per week. Levels 2 to 4 are available to International Students Course Checklist At Filton College, international students can choose from the same range of subjects as British students. Each course has its own specific entry requirements and your level of English needs to be at least upper-intermediate (IELTS 5.5 or equivalent). The courses we offer are outlined below. GCSEs - Level 2 (1year) These are the examinations taken by most students in England and Wales at the age of 16. Five passes at grade C or above are required for progression to Level 3. A levels - Level 3 (1 or 2 years) If you are considering applying to a British university, you will need to attain at least two passes at A level. We offer A levels in 24 subjects. Vocational courses - Levels 2 & 3 (1 or 2 years) These include BTEC diplomas, NVQs and CACHE courses and are the ideal choice if you already know which career path you wish to follow. They can prepare you for work or for progression to higher education. All Level 3 qualifications are acceptable for entry to university. We offer the following choice of subjects:

You only need to have studied at Level 2 or equivalent as the course is aimed at those with few academic qualifications. You can choose from: Access to Science Access to Teaching Access to Social Work Please note that international students requiring visas are not able to choose medical pathways. Higher Education Courses - Level 4 Foundation degrees (2 years) These are innovative degrees delivered in collaboration with employers to equip students with the relevant skills for business. Filton College will be delivering university level programmes in partnership with the University of the West of England (UWE) in subjects: Engineering, Fashion, Fine Art, Graphic Design, Photography. Our Foundation Degree students will have access to all UWE s facilities and student accommodation. Our WISE Higher Education campus is only a 10 minute walk away from the university campus. We also run a number of other higher education programmes; Sports, Performing Arts and Construction. On completion of a Foundation degree, you can choose to do a third year at UWE in order to gain a full degree.

FCE First Certificate in English) and Cambridge Business English exams (not many colleges or language schools offer the Business English exams) More than 85% of students who take the Cambridge exams at Filton College are successful We have a new computer/language laboratory offering you the chance to use all the new coursework, grammar, pronunciation and exams software, with a teacher to help you The British Council accredits our courses Course Dates Our academic Year is for 3 terms from September to July You can come just for 1 term, if you want, starting in September, January or April. Many students come for 3 terms. The minimum time you can come for is 6 weeks. EFL Programme 17 hours a week: 12 General English 2.5 Exam Skills 2.5 Business English (plus 2 hours of IELTS a week too if your level is high enough) 10-16 students in a mixed-nationality class, the same English level as you. Our methods involve lots of speaking and listening, so you make quick progress. We also do reading, writing, grammar and vocabulary. The Exam Fee is not included in your course fee, because this goes to Cambridge when we enter you for the exam. The teachers will advise you which exam to take. Cambridge exam fees are 60-100, depending one which exam you take. We also prepare students for: London Chamber of Commerce and Industry Business English Level 1 (LCCI) International English Language Testing System (IELTS) UK Skills for Life EFL Plus IT This programme is the ideal introduction to IT, covering modules such as Word Processing, Databases, Spreadsheets and Desktop Publishing. You can also do exams in your chosen modules. EFL Plus Sports Activities All students studying English as a Foreign Language will have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of sports. We also offer international students studying English a part-time course of their choice. Subjects include art & design, photography, beauty, holistic therapies & IT.
