Llanvihangel Crucorney Primary School JULY 2016 NEWSLETTER Dear All, We are at the end of another school year. What an amazing year it has been. Once again the children have all achieved so much, both in and out of school. Firstly, I would like to say a BIG Thank You to the pupils for their hard work, enthusiasm and excellent behaviour. We are very proud of them all. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of the school staff for the fantastic work and numerous events that have been achieved again this year. We have ended the year with lots of successes to celebrate. We started the year with our visit from Estyn. In the spring term we received a grant from the Big Lottery Funding which helped us purchase a gazebo. We were also awarded two small grants. One from Keep Wales Tidy which purchased new bins for the playground and one from Natural Buzz which helped purchase plants to develop our school grounds. For the first time our school choir entered the Abergavenny Eisteddfod from which we received very positive feedback. We are very proud of Joe Barnes and Dylan Bowen who came 1 st and 2 nd respectively in the Abergavenny Rotary Photography Competition and Amy Bayliss who came 1 st in the Abergavenny Rotary Club writing competition. Following his success, Joe and his family were invited to the Welsh Assembly in Cardiff where he was awarded runner up in the South Wales Rotary Photography competition. Development of our Library areas and grounds has been a focus this year. I would like to say a huge thank you to staff, parents and friends who have so willingly given up time to support us by providing man power to work on the grounds and transport Library equipment and to move equipment from a nearby school. Due to the closure of Llanfair Kilgeddin Primary School, we have received several items of equipment from their PTFA. These have included an interactive whiteboard and projector, a gazebo, picnic benches, a garden bench and gardening equipment. All of these are being used and we are very grateful to Llanfair Kilgeddin PTFA for supporting our school. Our own PTFA have been very busy throughout the year. I am positive that you will want to join me in thanking them for their hard work in organising fundraising events in order to provide extras for your children. Our Year 6 s are leaving us to begin their new adventures at King Henry V111 High School and we all wish them the very best of luck for the future. I know that Chelsea, Morgan, Joe, Millie, Georgia, Louise, Eve, Theo, Matthew, Dan and Reuben will go on to many great things in High School. We all hope that they ll keep in touch and let us know how they re getting on! As always, there are many, many people who help our school by the visits that they make and the work that they do to support us and I feel that it would be impossible to name them all here, so thank you everyone. We have now said an official good bye to Mrs George. Due to family circumstances, Mrs George left at February half term instead of at Easter as she had planned. Last week we eventually had the chance to give her a proper goodbye, but I am sure she will be back to visit us as often as she can. She has not yet decided what to put her grateful donations to. Term dates are on the back of this letter along with dates set for Teacher Training Days. There are still two further dates to set and I will inform you of these as soon as they have been arranged. I hope you have a happy, healthy summer holiday and I look forward to hearing about the children s adventures when they return to school on Monday 5 th September. Best wishes Sherri Davies Headteacher

AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS There will be NO afterschool clubs for the week beginning Monday 5 th September. Information regarding clubs will be sent out with starting dates during this week. PTFA Once again, the PTFA raised an amazing amount of money to support the school. The fete and BBQ raised a wonderful 2200 with 170 being raised by providing refreshments on sports afternoon. A huge thanks to the PTFA and everyone who supports them. Throughout the year the PTFA have helped purchase our wonderful gazebo, provided topic fund and book money for each class. They contribute towards the cost of trips and provide Christmas presents and the Christmas party. The PTFA are always on the lookout for new members and helpers. Please support them and the school, come along to the next meeting in the new term.
