EDUCATIONAL TRUST Annanagar Western Extension, Chennai 600 101 State Bank of India Officers' Association (Chennai Circle) The State Bank of India Officers' Association (Chennai Circle) is the sole collective bargaining body of Four Thousand Officers working in the State Bank of India Offices and Branches in the State of Tamil Nadu and Union Territory of Pondicherry. Its primary objective is to unite all Officers working in the Circle for collective bargaining purposes and to secure its members better service and fair working conditions. It is also committed to redressing their grievances and improving the quality of life of its members, economically, socially and culturally. It was registered on August 14, 1965 as 'State Bank of India Officers' Association (Madras Circle)' under the Trade Union Act. SBI OFFICERS' ASSOCIATION EDUCATIONAL TRUST As part of its non-bargaining activity, the SBIOA (Chennai Circle) sponsored the State Bank of India Officers' Association Educational Trust in the year 1978 and was inaugurated on the 6th June 1979 to synchronise with International Year of Child. The SBIOA Educational Trust was registered as a Society under Societies Registration Act, to establish and manage educational institutions for the benefit of the members' children as well as deserving students irrespective of caste, colour or creed. The first project of the SBIOA Educational Trust is the school started in June 1979 at Anna Nagar Western Extension, Chennai in a compact area of 6.2 acres and at the same time i.e. 1979 the Trust has taken over the primary school in Madurai for developing it into a High School. At present, the Trust runs three Schools at Chennai and one each at Madurai, Tiruchirappalli, Coimbatore and Kochi. Two schools at Chennai and the schools at Coimbatore, Tiruchirappalli and Madurai are affiliated to the Matriculation Board of Government of Tamilnadu and others with Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi. At present there are about 30,000 children studying in all seven schools. 1

Prospect us 2010-2011 Also, the Trust has provided employment opportunity to nearly 1500 teaching & nonteaching staff in all seven schools. All the schools under the Management of the Trust are run efficiently providing cent percent results in Public Examinations year after year. In order to ensure continuous professional development of our Teachers, the Trust has an academy viz. SBIOA Higher Academy of Research and Professional Enhancement (SHARPEN). The main objective of the Trust is to establish educational institutions on the pattern of English Public Schools at places where there is a concentration of Bank Officers and run them as Model Schools aiming at providing quality education to all children. The trust believes that education should develop high moral and social values in children and they should acquire the ability to differentiate between what is right and what is wrong. Schools run by the Trust prepare children to meet the challenges in life and not for just earning a living, make them fit for service and not just for a life, be it social, economical, cultural or to others. Academic Year The academic year of the school is from June to April with two mid-year vacations, one in September / October and the other in December. The year is divided into three terms, viz., June to September, October to December and January to April. The school works for 220 days in a year and from 8.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. on all working days. 3

Course of Study The school follows the curriculum and syllabus prescribed by the Matriculation Board of the Government of Tamil Nadu for classes I to X. For Std. XI & XII the syllabus prescribed by State Board of the Tamil Nadu Government is followed. The Medium of instruction in all classes is English. Apart from English, the languages taught are Tamil and Hindi. Physical Education Physical Education is compulsory for all students. The school has a vast play area with separate ground for Hockey and Football. After the school hours Evening Games are conducted. Members of teams - Football, Hockey, Cricket, Handball, Throw ball, Shuttle, etc., should stay for practice. Students of KG classes enjoy their games period in a separate kids play zone. Health Care Medical Inspection will be conducted for all students and Cumulative Medical Reports will be sent to the parents for necessary follow-up. School Staff Nurse takes care of First Aid and gives medical advice to the children. School Library The School has a well-furnished library with collection of books in English, Tamil, Hindi, French and various other subjects to cater to the need of all the classes. Library functions between 8.30 a.m. and 5.00 p.m. Students can borrow books from the library. 4

Our school's NCC Troop is affiliated to 2(TN)Armd Sqn NCC students who join in NCC and complete two years of training are eligible for NCC A certificate examination conducted by the Ministry of Defence. Scouts & Guide Movement Students of U.K.G. to Std. II may join the Bunnies. Students of Std. III to V may choose to join the Cubs and Bulbuls. These are the Junior Levels of the Scouts and Guides Movement. Students of Std VI to IX may join the Scouts & Guides. It is mandatory that participants of the Scouts & Guides movement wear the prescribed uniform, undergo the training and attend the Annual Camp. Tests and Examinations Mid-Term and Terminal Examinations are conducted in the months of July, September, December, February and April for classes VI to XII. Unit tests are held every month for Standards I -V. A system of awarding grades has been introduced in the school to motivate children to continuously excel themselves. Progress reports are given to parents as soon as the examinations are over. 5

They are periodically sent for in-service programmes such as seminars and workshops to help them improve their professional skills. They involve themselves totally in all the activities of the school, thus influencing the children far beyond their classrooms. All competitions - Cultural, Sports and Academics are conducted on House basis. Merit Awards Every student is given an opportunity to bring out the best in him / her. School Services School Counselor provide guidance & counselling to students. "SBIOA Service Shop" of the school caters to all the requirements of the staff and students. A Benevolent Fund Scheme will be constituted in the school to help the poor and the needy children of the school by providing scholarships. School Transport The school runs its own buses and vans for the convenience of pupils. The charges vary according to distance. School Uniform Each pupil is expected to possess at least three sets of uniforms. It is compulsory for the pupil to wear clean uniform while attending school.
