WELCOME TO JACKMAN ROAD ELEMENTARY 2013-2014

ABOUT THE BUILDING Jackman Road Elementary is in the shape of a capital E. There are four hallways. They are as follows: Main Hallway (Art, Music, Physical Education, Media Center, Computer Lab, Reading Specialist, two second grades, and the Office are in this hallway.) North Hallway (Young Fives, Latchkey, Grades 4 and 5 are in this hallway.) Middle Hallway (The lunchroom, Resource Rooms, and Grades 2 and 3 are in this hallway.) South Hallway (Kindergarten and First Grade are in this hallway.)

JACKMAN ROAD ELEMENTARY LOBBY Welcome to JRE! The front lobby is where students riding the bus and all visitors must enter. All visitors must sign in at the main office. Students who are dropped off in the loop also wait in the lobby until Mrs. Farnan sends you down to class at 8:15 a.m.

WELCOME TO JACKMAN ROAD ELEMENTARY Jackman Road Elementary has a very active PTO. They provide support for field trips, programs, host book fairs, Santa shop, and much more. We hope your family joins and has fun with us!

JRE OFFICE The JRE office is located in the main hall next to the lobby. Mrs. Blitz is the secretary. All visitors need to sign in here. Students may be signed in and out here as well. The health room and principal s office are right next door.

LOST AND FOUND There are two lost and found boxes at JRE. One is located in the lobby and the other in the south hallway. Make sure you check the boxes and hooks by the lunchroom if you are missing one of your items.

PLAYGROUND The JRE playground has a lot of equipment to play on plus soccer and kickball fields. There is also a volleyball court. The PTO helped us to add a basketball court this year too!

LUNCHROOM Each class has a hook area outside of the lunchroom. Your class lunch tub will also be there. Always remember your coat after lunch. Mrs. Sanford, Mrs. Horace, Mrs. Burgoon, and Mrs. Finley work in the lunchroom and can help you. Lunch money can be brought to the office in the morning and it will be on your account by the time you eat.

DROP OFF PICK UP We encourage all students to ride the bus if it is available to them. The drop off pick up loop is in the back of the school. There will be staff members to help you safely get into and out of your car. Please enter and exit the car on the passenger side.

COMPUTER LAB AND MEDIA CENTER The computer lab and media center are in the main hallway. Classes go to the media center once a week and students are allowed to trade their books on a daily basis from 8:30-9:00 a.m. and 2:45-3:15 p.m. Mrs. Johnston is our media secretary. Classes also attend the computer lab on a weekly basis. The building has a mobile lab with thirty laptops as well. Mrs. Sargent is our flex lab assistant.

SPECIAL AREA CLASSES Art, Music, and Physical Education classes are located in the main hallway. Mrs. Schalmo, Mrs. Edwards, and Mr. Huber are the special area teachers.

POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SUPPORT PBS stands for Positive Behavior Support. It is a program designed to teach respect, responsibility and safety at school. At JRE we hope to encourage students to continuously make good behavioral choices by implementing this program. How the Program Works Posters that highlight behavior expectations for all areas in the school, from classroom to office, and restrooms will remind students of what is expected from them in each area. All students and staff are taught the school-wide expectations. Students will receive frequent reviews of the expectations and be acknowledged when they demonstrate them. Most of the contact that students have with adults in the building is positive and prevents problem behavior from occurring. A PBS school provides a consistent, predictable, and fair use of consequences for all students.

CHECK IT OUT! Jackman Road Elementary has a year of learning and fun planned for everyone! We are thrilled to have you join our family. Please feel free to contact Mrs. Farnan with any questions you may have! Go Jaggs!
