Our Buffaloes have so many things to celebrate, and our amazing faculty and staff are extremely proud of all that our students have accomplished. I also want to honor our amazing teachers for all the creativity, time, and dedication they bring to the classroom every day. I encourage you to let at least one of your student s amazing teachers know that you appreciate the efforts they have shown to your student. With the school year coming to a close, I want to keep you in the loop with all activities and events from now until the end of the year. We wish each of our Buffaloes a safe summer, and we look forward to seeing our freshmen, sophomores, and juniors return in the fall. The season is coming to a close, and we commend our student athletes for all of their hard work. New Clearance Register My Athlete Program - the Athletics Department would like to thank THS parents and students for their acceptance and support of this new procedure that was implemented this year. Parents and students may continue to use the computer and scanner available in the Athletics Office to complete this requirement. This week we met with seniors about clearing their debts in the bookstore, getting their graduation cap and gown from Jostens, and taking care of all final business prior to May 12th so they are cleared to participate in graduation. Should you have any questions regarding your senior student s debts or academic standing, please contact 480-967-1661 ext. 20155 for Becky Salazar (bookstore manager) and/or ext. 20137 for David Morton (guidance department chair). Graduation rehearsal is mandatory and all seniors must arrive to rehearsal at 7:15am on the morning of May 18 th in the gym annex. Rehearsal ends around 9:15am and seniors are invited to attend a special senior breakfast, held immediately after rehearsal, sponsored by the THS underclassmen. All graduating seniors must report to the gym annex no later than 6pm on the night of graduation. They should be dressed professionally and have their cap and gown in hand. Seniors should leave cell phones, cameras, and other personal items with family and/ or friends before entering the gym annex. A senior prank is not a school approved event/activity. We have shared with our seniors that we do not allow students to enter campus after hours to deface and/or vandalize school property. Any student attempting to participate in a senior prank will not be permitted to participate in the graduation ceremony. Please join us in encouraging our seniors to make wise choices leading up to and after the graduation ceremony.
Tempe High will hold an Academic Awards Night on May 8 th at 6:30pm in the Auditorium. If your student was invited to receive an award, we hope you will come out and support this awesome event that honors the academic achievements of our students. Career and Technical Education (CTE) Recognition Night will be held on May 9 th at Desert Vista High School from 6:30-8pm. We hope all Tempe High students receiving awards will attend this special event. Is your student interested in summer school? Registration for Tempe Union High School District s Summer Education Academy is open, and students can register at Tempe High until May 10 th. After May 10 th, all registrations must be completed at Marcos de Niza. Please contact guidance assistant, Kayla Celaya, for more information at ext. 20131 or by email at kcelaya@tempeunion.org. Reporting a Student Absence Parents/Guardians can call our ATTENDANCE Line 24 hours a day at (480) 967-1661; Press 1. To report an absence, the parent/guardian will need to include: Full name and ID number of student. Please spell the last name clearly. Date(s) and time(s) of absence and reason for absence(s) Relationship to the student and a current working phone number Absences not excused within 48 hours will remain Changes in Student Information Parents & Legal Guardians: Please inform the front office immediately IF You have moved. A change of Address form along with proof of residency is required. There is change to your home, cell or work phone numbers. There is change of your designated Emergency contact(s). It is important to have someone who that can be contacted if we are unable to reach you during the school day. Please remember that ALL school related correspondence such as report cards, newsletters, etc. will be sent to the address we have on file.
Congratulations to CTE teacher, Mr. Scott Berren, for being selected as a finalist for CTE Teacher of the Year! Congratulations to science teacher, Ms. Svenja Wagner, for winning the Rising Star Award. Ms. Wagner was selected for this award by the Tempe Diablos organization, and she received the award at the Excellence in Education Awards event. Congratulations to orchestra teacher and Fine Arts department chair, Ms. Jill Osborne, for being named as a finalist for the Teacher of the Year Award. This award is presented annually at the Tempe Diablos Excellence in Education Awards event. Congratulations to all of our Tempe Dollars for Scholars Scholarship recipients: Miguel Acosta, Shandy Htun, Janet Mancillas, Vivian Espino, Alejandro Briseno, and Elanor McDevitt. Congratulations to Jobs for Arizona s Graduations (JAG) students and Ms. Tanya Moulton for winning multiple awards in the individual, group and team categories at the Career Development Conference! Congratulations to THS AVID and IB students for the numerous scholarships earned this year! I also want to thank IB coordinator, Michael Cooper, AVID coordinator, Mr. Brandon Thompson, and senior AVID teacher, Ms. Cortney Antonson-Milanovich, for all of the time they put in helping our students apply for scholarships and more! Congratulations to our spring sports Tempe All City Award winners, Desiree Muniz and DeAndre Hughes!
