Thriving Minds Afterschool Many Thriving Minds students begin our afterschool programs with significantly lower TAKS pass rates than their peers. Thriving Minds Summer Camps Percentage of High Impact* Learning Occurring in Big Thought Summer Out of School OST *High impact learning is demonstrated by students who freely offer ideas, show an active interest in making better or creative choices, and work with the teacher to discover principles instead of memorize facts. 4
Thriving Minds Summer Camps The average Dallas ISD 3 5 grader began with solid 2010 TAKS pass rates in both reading and math, which remained stable in 2011. Thriving Minds students who trailed their peers significantly in 2010 showed impressive increases in TAKS pass rates for 2011 7% in reading and 10.4% in math. 5

Leveraging City Funds From the city s FY 11/12 contribution of $619,166 to Big Thought, the organization has leveraged almost $12 million in private and other 1 public contributions to maximize every dollar. 1* Corporate, Foundation, Individual, Organization, State and National Funders 7
Leveraging Funds for Programs Big Thought s administration costs are consistently low, with 81% of funds going directly to programs. 1 $3.75M to arts organizations plus $1.5M to individual artists. Balance goes towards 250 full and part time program staff along with supplies, communications, technical assistance, professional development, food assistance and transportation directly supporting students and programs. 8
