Application Requirements and Instructions We are so excited that you are interested in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (S.T.E.M.) Program at J. E. Brown Middle School. Completion of the student application is the first step to participating in this exciting middle school experience. The S.T.E.M. program provides students the opportunity to solve tough problems, gather and evaluate evidence, and make sense of information. These types of skills are learned by studying science, technology, engineering and mathematics. STEM students will take accelerated classes in the STEM core subjects and will have the possibility of earning four high school credits in the 8 th grade. Listed below are the minimum requirements for rising 6 th grade students for the STEM program at Brown Middle School: Core Grade Point of 80 or higher Georgia Milestone Score of 525 or higher in English, Mathematics and/or Science Students that meet the minimum requirements may apply. The application process will consist of the following: Application to be completed by the applicant and parent/legal guardian Student response questions to be completed by the applicant Academic information Counselor recommendation to be submitted by the applicant s guidance counselor with the application References Two references are required as part of your application packet. These must be returned to you in a sealed envelope with the signature of the person completing the reference written across the seal.
