Annual Texas Success Initiative Texas Higher Education Assessment/Alternative (THEA/A) Test Report of Student Performance 2006-2007 High School Graduating Classes Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board Austin, TX January 2009

Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board Annual Texas Success Initiative Test Report of Student Performance Statewide Summary Report This Texas Success Initiative (TSI) report contains state-level data summaries disaggregated by student ethnicity, gender, high school curriculum, and economic status. These statewide summaries are followed by independent school district results for each county, and district(s) within each county, listed alphabetically. The data for 90 small districts (those with fewer than five graduates or five students enrolled or for which no students passed any one of the TSI Standards categories) are combined into a single row at the top of the report. This year, changes were made in how the data is reported with simplified categories that only track Texas public high school graduates who enrolled in Texas public education during the 2006-2007 school year and met TSI standards through TSI testing or test-based exemptions. The definitions below provide descriptions of the data in the report. Total High School Graduates... umber of students who graduated from a Texas public high school in academic year 2006-2007. Enrolled In Texas Public Higher Education.umber of graduates who enrolled in a public higher education institution the following year (2007-2008 academic year) Percent Enrolled Percent of high school graduates who enrolled in a public higher education institution the following year who enrolled in Texas Public Higher Education the following year and who Met TSI Minimum Passing Standards* All Three Parts umber and percent of students enrolled in Texas public higher education (1) who met TSI exemption standards on all relevant sections of the TAKS, SAT, or ACT tests, (2) who met TSI minimum passing standard on all three sections of the THEA Test or an approved alternative test and who were flagged as passing the initial assessment test, or (3) who were reported as having met all the TSI standards in a previous semester. Math...umber and percent of students (1) who met TSI exemption standards on the math section of the TAKS, SAT, or ACT tests, (2) who met TSI standards on the math section of the THEA Test or an approved alternative test and

who were flagged as passing the initial math assessment test, or (3) who were reported as having met the math TSI standard in a previous semester. Writing...umber and percent of students (1) who met TSI exemption standards on the related section of the TAKS, SAT, or ACT tests, (2) who met TSI standards on the writing section of the THEA Test or an approved alternative test and who were flagged as passing the initial writing assessment test, or (3) who were reported as having met the writing TSI standard in a previous semester. Reading umber and percent of students (1) who met TSI exemption standards on the related section of the TAKS, SAT, or ACT tests, (2) who met TSI standards on the reading section of the THEA Test or an approved alternative test and who were flagged as passing the initial reading assessment test, or (3) who were reported as having met the reading TSI standard in a previous semester. Percentage Calculation: The percentage of students who met TSI is calculated by dividing the number who pass one or all the TSI sections by the total number of students who enrolled in Texas Public Higher Education, which is shown in column 2. * ot included in the categories are enrollees for whom TSI minimum passing standards do not apply, are waived, or are exempted through means other than an approved test. Examples include students with military service, students enrolled in non-credit or non-degree programs, and students enrolled in a Level-One certificate program. Data Supplement
