TO: FROM: Dr. Nicholas Wahl, Superintendent Michael McGrory, Principal RE: Principal Report- March 2013 Grease Musical Hinsdale Central had outstanding attendance at last week s Grease Musical, which was held on March 7-March 9. The recently updated auditorium was transformed into legendary Rydell High School as more than 75 talented student performers, musicians, and backstage crew members brought high-energy and rock and roll to the stage. Directed by our theatre director, Chris Hicks; music director, Jennifer Burkemper; conductor, Jeffrey Wirtz; and Pianist Mr. Rennie. In addition, I want to recognize and thank several staff members who performed and did a fantastic job in the play; Jan Hall, Stephanie Hiffman, Pam Kalafut, Jan MacLeod and Diana Sekura. The show featured our very talented high school rock band and musical performers. Christie Kerr choreographed 50 s-style dancing. Black History Month We had great participation in the Black History Month events in February. The month kicked off with students speaking of the African American experience through poetry readings and also enjoying the Chris Greene Jazz band which performed in the cafeteria. To finish out February, Hinsdale Central enjoyed an open forum and panel entitled, "The Civil Right Movement: Then and Now." The panel discussion was an engaging way to celebrate black history and heritage. Mrs. Deborah Wright-Powell did an amazing job helping in all aspects of organization to make February a fabulous month to remember. In addition, we had great participation in our first Black History Door Decorating Contest. We had approximately twenty doors decorated. Every class that participated received a certificate to display in their classroom for taking part in this activity. Mrs. Annette DeAngelis and her committee really showed leadership with this project. Red Devil Mock Trial Team The Red Devil Mock Trial team continued their remarkable run, winning their fourth state championship in the past five years in Champaign last weekend. The team won all of its trials and each competition in which it participated this season. Individual winners for Outstanding Witness were Corinne Casper, Adam Smith, and Zach Wong, and for Outstanding Attorney Max Cornell. Next up is Nationals in Indianapolis with a new case.
