2 Center for Scientific and Technical Information Center for Scientific and Technical Information is an institution-wide center of scientific information which aim is to integrate various structures connected with teaching and scientific researches at the University. Besides supporting education and research, the Center develops information on resources and services that are involved in cooperation between scientists and economic partners. Wrocław University of Technology Libraries The Libraries Traditional and Electronic- build a hybrid library and information system of the University which enables the students and the faculty staff access to necessary, printed and electronic resourses for research and education. Thanks to a number of rich electronic collection and advanced search tools the users are able to maximize their search techniques to get the best results and retrieve relevant information from the thousands of records in the databases and e-journals.the library offer is directed for all users, to these who love user-friendly campus places- a Reading Room, Open Study Zone or Branch Libraries at the campus and to those who prefer to study at home or in dormitories using off campus Proxy server.

7 Availability of printed materials The Libray collection and the services are available for all users who have a valid library card. To receive that, means to accept the Regulations and Rules of the Center available on the website of the Libraries of the Wroclaw University of Science and Technology. Set up a library account Users are expected to bring the following documents: A library account can be created only in person at the Main Circulation Desk in the Traditional Library (building A-1, staircase c, II loor, room 307). students and PhD students of WUST Electronic Student Card and a card of obligation (Karta zobowiązań)* WUST faculty staff ID card and WUST Electronic Card postgraduate students of WUST and other public academic schools in Wrocław ID card and a card of obligation (Karta zobowiązań)* students of other universities who study part time at WUST ID card and a letter of referral from the WUST s faculty students and PhD students of other public academic schools in Wrocław ID card and a card of obligation (Karta zobowiązań)** * A person singing a form of registration is responsible for the borrowed books and has to accept the Regulations of the Center for Scientific and Technical Information. ** A card of obligation (Karta zobowiązań) is accesible in a Dean office at faculty.

8 While registering, it is necessary to submit an e-mail which will help the librarians to contact a person, inform about the approaching time to return a book. Every WUST student during the period of studies has an e-mail account: studentbooknumber@student.pwr.edu.pl To activate an account please visit the website: student.pwr.edu.pl. The account expires when a student graduates. Log in to a library account After completing necessary verifications the user receives access to electronic library account. To log in to library account go to the website: aleph.bg.pwr.wroc.pl or primo.bg.pwr.wroc.pl. Once a user has logged in, he can check: a list of current loans, the date the account is valid, requests and the due date of collecting the books, fines, blocks, a history of loans (last 30 items). Online catalogue The Catalogue is a basic search and discovery tool that provides online results and availability from the library s collections. It is available on the website of WUST Libraries. A patron can search for books, periodicals and other Center s resources and see the location of the items which can be requested electronically. There are the following databases in the Catalogue: BOOKS AND PERIODICALS, FICTION. There is no possibility to reserve books borrowed by other users.

9 Request: circulation and borrow You can order books to borrow or read in the Main Reading Room via the online catalogue. Please use LIBRARY CATALOGUE and follow the steps: search: by author, subject, call number and more, select a copy (you will see if it is available and where), log in to your account, confirm your request. Requested materials to the Main Circulation Desk in the Library will be available in one hour or 2 to 4 hours (at the beginning and at the end of a semester) and about 30 minutes requested to the Main Reading Room. The items may be collected only by the owner of a library account. Schedule: A day when you requested books Last day to pick up books Monday Wednesday till 5 p.m. Tuesday Thursday till 5 p.m. Wednesday Friday till 5 p.m. Thursday Saturday till 2.15 p.m. Friday Monday till 5 p.m. Saturday Tuesday till 5 p.m. Sunday Wednesday till 5 p.m. Items requested to the Main Reading Room have to be checked the same day while those submitted at 5.30 p.m. (weekends after 2.30 p.m.) will be processed the next day.

10 The following are loan periods at the Main Circulation Desk and in the branch libraries: WUST students PhD students WUST staff postgraduate students of WUST students of other universities who study part time at WUST students and PhD students of other public academic schools in Wrocław 10 volumes for 6 months 10 volumes for 1 year 20 volumes for 1 year 10 volumes for 6 months 5 volumes for 3 months 5 volumes for 3 months An exception: a Fiction Circulation Desk and Reading Room - a person can borrow 10 books The collection in the Center s Branches is lent only for the students, PhD students and the staff of WUST. Renew and return library materials A borrower can renew the library materials once using the online catalogue, if: it is the first renewal, the items are not overdue. If you want to do it, please follow: log in to your account, select from the menu Loans, select the title you wish to renew, click the Renew button. Anyone can return the books, not only borrower himself. If you cannot renew, you will see a note: the limit for renew has been exceeded. In this case you have to bring the borrowed books in person to the Main Circulation Desk or to the particular branch library. Every Library user is informed via e-mail 10 and 3 days before the due time but the Library is not responsible for non active e-mail account. Blocks on the library account Library privileges will be suspended and a registration block will be initiated for borrowers who: do not collect the ordered books on time, overdue materials, do not pay the fine on time.

11 Users whose account has been blocked will not be able to check out library materials at the Main Circulation Desk, the Main Reading Room or at the branch libraries. You can only unblock the account in person at the Main Circulation Desk or at the branch libraries it depends on the place where you borrowed the book. A fine should be paid to the WUST s account and a receipt shown or send by e-mail. Important! When you do not collect the ordered books four times, your library account will be blocked for 3 months. A borrower may only renew the borrowed books. Library fines and fees Overdue fines are charged for any material that is not returned on or before the due date at the rate of 50 groszy per day for each item. You can pay your fine in person at the Main Circulation Desk (only for the books borrowed from the Traditional Library) or pay to the account: Politechnika Wrocławska Wybrzeże Wyspiańskiego 27 50-370 Wrocław Bank Zachodni WBK S.A. 16 Oddział Wrocław 37 1090 2402 0000 0006 1000 0434 Reference service in the reading rooms Materials for use in the Main Reading Room are requested via electronic catalogue (except for the reference collection and current journals which are in open access). At one time users may order 5 books or 5 volumes of journals. Some materials are only available within the library in the Main Reading Room. The following items are non-circulating: reference works, newspapers and journals, materials ordered via interlibrary loan, special collection, e.g. doctoral theses or materials published prior to 1945. Electronic Student Card or any other ID card should be shown while using the Reading Room. In most reading rooms at the branch libraries there is open access to the reference collection, so there in no need to request via online catalogue.

12 Using electronic resources The students, postgraduate students and faculty staff of WUST have access to all web-based library electronic resources offered by the Electronic Library which has signed license contracts. The electronic resources are available in the University network and using them means acceptance of the Regulations of the Center and the Regulations and Rules of the Library. As far as the Open Study Zone of the Center is concerned the users have also to accept the Rules for using the Open Study Zone. Other library visitors can use the licensed resources (if the license allows) only on-site in the Center s divisions, also in the Open Study Zone. Open Study Zone The Open Study Zone is an open digital reading room. It is equipped with computer stands where you can get access to a personalized virtual machine as well as services offered by the Center. There are also situated individual study rooms for students and staff if they need a more private space. A wireless net let use own computer equipment. Electronic resources and tools The Electronic Library provides access to 1,4 million e-books, 70 thousand e-journals and 110 databases, both licensed and world-wide Polish and foreign to support studies, research and teaching. The following types are offered: bibliographic, factographic and full text databases, e-books and e-journals, digital collection in the Lower Silesian Digital Library and WUST Repository, Open Access services. Users are encouraged to use a multisearch tool aviable at the WUST Libraries website for inding necesssary literature.. The Electronic Library offers access to the latest search tools and services to support using electronic resources: publications written by the University researches are collected in a Repository of the University Primo search engine - a multisearch tool which enables users to access to an institution s almost entire electronic collection (also an OPAC catalogue), SFX - is an Open URL linking resolver that creates shortcuts to the full text of online journals and books enables to request an article via Interlibrary Loan, RefWorks - an online research management, a tool which is designed to help researchers and students easily gather, manage, store and share all types of information, as well as generate citations and bibliographies, E-Resources A-Z list - provides access to the full text of thousands of journals and books accessed in various online services.

13 Access to electronic resources Electronic resources purchased by the University are available in the WUST network. It covers all campus buildings, also these where the reading rooms are located. Access authorization to e-resources is based on computers IP addresses. Using this route guarantees that one gets access to the full range of resources to which one is entitled as a WUST member. The other interested persons would follow the rules described above. The licensed resources are also available in an open PWR Wi-Fi network but an additional user authorization is demanded for the uses of Proxy off-campus access. Off campus access Faculty staff, students, postgraduate students of WUST are entitled to use a library Proxy server (registration is required) which gives access to vast majority of library e-resources from off campus. To register in the system one has to: have a library account, fill a Proxy form (available from the WUST Libraries website), accept the rules and conditions of using e-resources. Questions regarded Proxy please send to: biblioteka.proxy@pwr.edu.pl phone: 71 320 29 03 The users who do not have an e-mail account on a University server (e.g. foreign students or postgraduate students) may use Proxy server after they show a suitable ID card. They may log in via an individual e-mail address. All details are available on the Library website. Support and training The Electronic Library offers the users free workshops and training on how to navigate electronic resources and effectively search for scientific literature for projects and theses. The users are invited individually or in groups. It is possible to make additional appointment to broad a specified subject according to the user s requirements. More detailed information concerning workshops is available in the Information Section & Electronic Resources building D-21, entrance A, I floor, room 101 or 104. Dear Student!
