OUR FACILITIES Ditton Field, the home of KGS Sport Ditton Field in Thames Ditton is home to our purpose-built sports grounds. Whilst we have some sports facilities at the London Road site, the majority are based here. Facilities include: 2 hockey AstroTurfs with a practice area, 6 netball courts, 4 football pitches, 4 cricket squares (2 senior/2 junior), 8 hard tennis courts and 6 cricket nets. Boat House The KGS Boat House is situated beside our playing fields in Thames Ditton. It underwent a full renovation in 2012 and is home to our Boat Club and to its wider extended community. It is located in an idyllic setting opposite Hampton Court Palace and is a facility of which we are extremely proud. London Road Our main school site houses a number of sporting venues: the gym, the hall and the cage. We also regularly use Fairfield Park, just behind the Fairfield building. All spaces are used to their maximum potential. 4
SENIOR GAMES PROGRAMME We firmly believe that our Senior Games Programme on Wednesday afternoons is unique for a co-educational day school. Lifelong Physical Activity, Team Sports and Sporting Excellence are the three pillars of this programme. From the list of activities in this booklet you will see the breadth of choice available for every student to flourish, enjoy and engage in Senior Games. Lifelong Physical Activity We want all students at the School to take part in a sport or activity that they enjoy, gain fulfilment from and will continue once they have left KGS, whether that may be a regular Zumba or Pilates class, or joining a football, cricket, rowing or hockey club. Team Sports Team sports play a fundamental role at KGS. Playing within a team embodies many qualities in which the School believes: learning to both win and lose, working effectively with others, learning to lead and be led and gaining self-belief and confidence. Sporting Excellence The drive for excellence is never-ending at KGS. We blend opportunity and engagement in sport with a desire to compete and succeed at the highest level. In the past 5 years, we have reached 18 national hockey finals and we have produced many rowing and hockey internationals. Ethos of KGS Sport Sport plays an integral role in our students education. We expect every student to participate in some form of physical activity and we actively encourage every student to engage in competitive sports. KGS strives to offer every student an opportunity to represent the School, and we pride ourselves on the opportunities that we provide, the variety of competitive sports, the level of coaching and the number of activities on offer. With 20 sports/activities available, at various levels of participation, we are confident that there is something for everyone. Some activities may incur a small subsidiary cost where external facilities and instructors are used. We are proud of our sporting statistics at KGS: Last year, KGS played over 1000 sporting fixtures We entered over 35 regattas and heads of the river races Over 350 students are actively engaged in training or competing for KGS Sport 5
