LATE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. 1. The application for the GCE O Level Music Course in 2016 is now open to all students who will be in Secondary 3 Express / Normal (Academic) or Secondary 4 Normal (Academic) course in 2016. Schools are requested to bring this to the attention of their students. SYLLABUS COVERAGE 2. The GCE O Level Music (6085) syllabus seeks to engage students in Listening, Performing and Composing. Students will have the opportunity to broaden their knowledge of music from a wide repertoire and make music, both individually and in groups. 3. The syllabus is organised into Music Studies and Music Making. Within Music Studies, there are areas of study which will cover a range of musical styles from Western and Asian music traditions. Music Making will guide aural exploration through listening and analysis. Students will also gain musical skills to perform and compose music. 4. Some of the genres and traditions included in the Areas of Study include: (i) Western Music Works for voice and theatre: Art songs, Opera and Broadway Works for instrumental music: Keyboard, Chamber and Orchestral works (ii) Asian Music Music of Traditional Malay Dances, Chinese Ensemble Music, Indian Ensemble Music and Gamelan 5. Students studying in schools that offer O Level Music do not need to send in their applications to MOE. They are to apply for the course through their schools. 7. For schools that do not offer O Level Music, the music coordinator is expected to inform all current Secondary 2 Express and Normal (Academic) and Secondary 3 Normal (Academic) students of the O Level Music Course application procedure. 8. The information sheet (Annex A) and application form (Annex B) are for distribution to students who are interested in applying for the course.
9. Students are to submit the completed application forms and necessary supporting documents to the school s music coordinator. 10. The school s music coordinator should collate all applications, obtain the principal s endorsement and fax the following documents, complete with the cover sheet (Annex C) to Arts Education Branch by Friday, 10 July 2015: (i) (ii) Completed application form (Annex B) of interested applicants Copies of applicants certificate(s). 11. The school s music coordinator should also email a soft copy of the cover sheet (Annex C) to Rachel_EE@moe.gov.sg and click on http://goo.gl/forms/wlbonjwfou to indicate the total number of applications submitted. For schools that are do not have any applicants, a NIL reply is necessary. 12. All documents are to be faxed by Friday 10 July 2015 to 67339327 (Attn: Rachel Ee (Ms), Senior Specialist (Music)). PRE-REQUISITES 13. To be eligible for the course, students must have at least a Grade 4 pass in Practical and Theory/Practical Musicianship from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM), or the equivalent standard from other examination boards (e.g. Trinity College of London; Yamaha Grade Examination System). 14. Students without the pre-requisites would need to take a Selection Test comprising a live audition and/or theory test in August 2015. Details of the test would be provided to the students at a later date. O LEVEL MUSIC CENTRES 15. Successful applicants will attend music classes held weekly, with duration of approximately 3 hours, at one of the following Centres. They will be invited to choose their Centres in September 2015. All Centres take in students of both genders. Posting of applicants is done on a first-come-first-served basis.
