The programs are housed in our four colleges: Arts and Sciences; Business; Engineering and Computer Science; and Health, Education, and Professional Studies. UTC is also proud to offer the following doctoral degree programs: two clinical doctorates in Physical Therapy (D.P.T.) and Occupational Therapy (O.P.T.), a clinical doctorate in Nursing Practice (D.N.P.), an applied doctorate in Learning and Leadership (Ed.D.), a clinical entry-level doctorate in Occupational Therapy (O.T.D.), and a research doctorate in Computational Science (Ph.D.). Table of Contents History of Advanced Degree Programs... 3 Fact Summary... School Specific Statistics... Certificate Statistics... Contact Information... 3 Students in our graduate programs have received regional and national recognition for their work with the help of UTC faculty who are dedicated and passionate about providing a focused, yet comprehensive educational experience. Indeed, our students have the opportunity to interact with faculty on a one-to-one basis to gain the most from their educational experiences. As a result, students completing graduate degrees at UTC are prepared to handle workplace challenges, be problem solvers, and provide leadership in the communities where they reside. We hope that as you read these figures, you will be encouraged by the success stories each number represents. These are exciting days for the UTC Graduate School, and the best is still to come. - Dr. Joanne G. Romagni Vice Chancellor for Research & Dean of the Graduate School Graduate School Page

HISTORY OF ADVANCED DEGREE PROGRAMS The first advanced degree program, theology, was offered in when The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga was known as Chattanooga University. The degree in theology was followed by advanced degrees in medicine and law. In 0, advanced degrees were discontinued at the institution. It was not until that a post baccalaureate degree, as we know it, was offered. The master s degree in music was approved in and was followed in by a master s degree in education. After this modest beginning in the 0s and 0s, the University added four or five graduate programs each decade until the 0s when it added six new programs. Currently, there are graduate certificates, 0 master's degrees, one education specialist, and four doctoral degree programs. When The University of Chattanooga and City College merged with The University of Tennessee in, the merger agreement stated that UTC would become a doctoral-granted institution as soon as practicable. UTC awarded its first doctor of philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Computational Engineering in December 00. Graduate School Page 3
