Daily Bulletin This is read by students to the entire student body during advisory or in the morning. Some children are good about relaying information others are not. Parent notes provided by our PTA at the end or beginning of the bulletin Join the PTA and this can be sent to your email everyday so you do not loose touch with what is going on in the life of your middle schooler.

Daily Schedule Six classes a day Math Language Arts Science Social Studies P.E./Health Elective Rotation OR Band (You MUST turn in a Band Request form if you want to be in band instead of the elective rotation above) Classes are approximately 50 minutes Lunch is 30 minutes Advisory is M, T, Th, F 10:40-11:05am (7 th period class)

ATTENDANCE 360-396-3205 (24 hour message line) You must call or send a note if your child is absent or tardy. If your child is late, they need to check in at the attendance window for a pass to class. Parent/guardian should send a note or call with the reason for the late arrival. If your child needs to be dismissed early, parent/guardian needs to come into the main office to sign the child out. (Bring ID) The person picking child up must be on the emergency list or have a note signed by parent giving permission. (Bring ID)

Prior-Arranged Absence When it is known beforehand that a student will not be attending school due to medical reasons, family bereavement, etc., the student is to bring a note to the Attendance Office explaining the absence and to obtain a Prior Arranged Absence Form. The student will take this form to each class for teachers signatures, assignments, and comments regarding whether this will adversely affect the student s grades. The completed form should be turned in to the attendance office. One day makeup is allowed for each day absent (excused).

Medication at School Children who need to take any type of prescription or over-thecounter medication (including cough drops or syrup, Tums, Tylenol, inhalers, etc.) during the school day must have a signed Physician s Order for Medication at School form. Forms are located on the NK website <nkschools.org> (look under families then Medical forms ).

BUS NOTES If your child is riding the bus with another child, or getting off at a different stop, your child will need to have a bus note. Your child will need to bring the bus note to the main office to get stamped by our staff before the end of lunch. This bus note needs to include the following items; The student's name, if riding with another student include their name, the bus #, the stop location (physical address-not grandma s house or dad s work) parent signature and phone number the name and phone number of the person that will be meeting them.

It will be helpful to have the following information handy to allow for accurate completion of your online registration. Insurance information Physical Exam: A physical exam must be current within the past 24 months. IMPORTANT - The physical form must be signed and dated by a physician. If the student s physical expires during the season, they will not be able to participate until a new physical exam is received. Either upload a copy of your physical on the registration page, or bring your new or updated physical to the main office. Emergency contact information An ASB card is required to participate in sports. Grades and behavior affect student eligibility. Pep Assemblies for each sport season.

Panther Squad Show school spirit by supporting Poulsbo Middle School Athletics. Attend as many home games as possible. Students may pick up the Panther Fan Passport. For every game stamped, they receive a raffle ticket good for a chance at a prize at the end of the year.

ASB Cards (Associated Student Body) Purchasing an ASB card supports the ASB activity fund. ASB card required if you participate in sports. Student needs to show ASB/ID to purchase dance/social tickets. ASB card gives a discount to Poulsbo Middle School dance/social. Student needs to show ASB/ID to get in to the dance/social. ASB card gives a discount to the High School games.

Ways to help your child prepare for academic success Be sure your child has a healthy breakfast, lunch, and snacks. (Power drinks are not allowed on campus.) Make sure your child has plenty of sleep. Make sure your child arrives to school on time. Make sure your child is prepared with pencils, homework, planners, and class materials.

Homework Counts at PMS! We have Grades A, B, C, D, F not 4, 3, 2, 1 Grades are based on the following 1. Homework completion and turned in 2. Daily/weekly assignments 3. Tests 4. Projects No Missing Assignment Treats provided by our PTA! (Completed and turned in all assignments in each class for the quarter) Parents (and you) have access to your grades through Skyward Family Access.

Student Recognition Class of the Year (grade level competition) Student of the Month chosen by teachers No Missing Assignments a treat every quarter from our PTA ROAR bucks - Staff members will recognize students who follow our Panther Expectations. ROAR Bucks will be redeemable at the ROAR store for a variety of items.

Lockers? Students need to keep these items in lockers, they are not allowed in class: Backpacks YES! Students will have them! Yes, students may have to share with a friend. Yes, the school will provide the lock. Yes, students must memorize the combination. No, the school can t guarantee a top locker. No, students cannot have backpacks in their classrooms, students must keep backpacks and book bags in their locker. Book bags Cell phones During school hours students can use a phone in the office to call home if needed. Student will need a pass from their teacher.

KEEP THESE ITEMS AT HOME

Dress Code - Clothing In order to facilitate learning for all students, Poulsbo Middle School requires that student dress and appearance follow health and safety standards and not cause disruption to the learning environment. Students who do not follow these guidelines will be asked to change their clothing, cover up, or go home, if necessary. Upper Torso Clothing must cover stomach, back, shoulders, chest, and undergarments. Lower Torso Shorts, skirts, and dresses must be longer than midthigh. Undergarments must be covered. Feet Footwear must be worn at all times and be appropriate to the activity. All dress code decisions are at the discretion of the administration.

Dress Code - Accessories Hats, caps, and headgear of any kind must be removed upon entering the school building at the beginning of the day and put away in a student s locker until the end of the school day. Sweatshirt hoods must be kept down inside the building. Bandannas may not be worn or carried to school. Sunglasses are only to be worn outside.

These are an example of the sort of clubs and activities that are offered throughout the year. Some activities are all year others are offered for a specific period of time. Parent permission forms are located in the main office.

Spirit Days Show your spirit by dressing up in your spirit wear! Earn Class of the Year points Remember all school dress rules apply

IMPACT AID FORM Every card counts! NKSD applies for Federal Impact Aid funds from the US Department of Education. These funds compensate NKSD for the loss of local state tax dollars on tax-exempt federal property. Your cooperation on filling out and returning these forms is greatly appreciated! Forms are distributed in October. One form per student. Parent/guardian must sign and date each child s form. Records are kept confidential.

It takes at least two weeks for approval. Current for two years from the approval date.
