Biography & Statement of Biography & Statement of work Born 1981 in Kilkis, Greece. Lives and works in Thessaloniki and London My oil paintings describe imaginary locations. These locations sit weirdly on figures, compositions or objects, which usually originate from images of art history. These reference images are translated as massive pieces of land, which then become the terrain for smaller scale detailed landscapes, scenes and narratives. I explore the ability of painting language to speak about itself, while at the same time it incorporates worlds, which refer to external situations. Thinking about the way these paintings can be read, I draw inspiration from video game mechanics, where gameplay might dominate over narrative and vice versa, resulting to a barely manageable challenge which maintains the pleasure factor between everything else.
