Needs Assessment Creek View Elementary School is now four years old, and has seen two major transitions- opening a brand new school and a rezoning process. In February 2013, the Creek View staff met to begin plans for our fifth year. The teams/committees reviewed the campus data which included the following: enrollment, demographics, discipline and STAAR and CBM results. Our student enrollment was 645. Special district programs on campus include three classes of CASL and two classes of Head Start. Demographic information for Creek View in 2012-2013 was as follows: Ethnicity 1% American Indian 9% Asian 22% Black 16% Hispanic 50% White Economically Disadvantaged 39% At-Risk 25% These numbers shifted slightly from 2011-2012, and we expect the numbers to continue to reflect a shift in demographics where the Hispanic and Black subgroups make up a larger percentage of our school s population. We also expect our percentage of Economically Disadvantaged students to go over 40% next year. The following six pages contain charts that compare STAAR test data in each subject by grade level, as well as a look at school, district, and state averages on the final page. It should be noted that the 2013 reported scores are preliminary scores only, and we do expect the percentages to increase slightly. In each chart, the performance of key sub-groups is also disaggregated. We have also included the number of Commended students for each group/test. Creek View Elementary School - 2 -

When looking at the data from our first two years of STAAR, the implications are evident. As a staff, we have targeted the writing performance of our students, and we believe this has been effective. We note a slight increase in the number of students who were commended on the Writing STAAR. We feel that when the scores are finalized, we will also see a slight increase in the passing percentage. A concern for the staff has been the gap in performance on standardized tests between our African-American population and the total population. This gap is still evident in these scores. We will continue to address this concern, and broaden the perspective to include our Hispanic subgroup as well. Finally, our 3 rd Grade Math scores decreased from year-to-year by about 10 percent. While this gap will eventually narrow after scores are finalized, the staff feels that this should be addressed in our plan. We remain, on all tests save for one, above district averages; we are above state averages on ALL tests. We acknowledge that improvement can always be made, and our plan will take steps to ensure this will continue! Creek View prides itself on the relationships built with students, parents and staff. Safety continues to remain our top priority. Consistent procedures have been established, but the improvement team feels that our fifth year is a good year to review and re-establish schoolwide expectations. Through the Foundations program, CHAMPS, and Conscious Discipline, the school has many tools to achieve this goal. We are also looking at the entire Response To Intervention process, especially in the area of behavioral supports, in order to make this process more efficient and beneficial to all stakeholders.
