November 2015 Dear Bishop Shanahan Community, I wish you and your families a blessed Thanksgiving. We give thanks to the Lord for all he has provided for our community. This year we are thankful for the faculty, staff, parents and students that surround us here at Bishop Shanahan. We have amazing students who are energetic, caring, involved and appreciative. It is so easy to work for a group that wants to do good for others and who live by the motto People of God, People for Others. Some future events we are looking forward too include: on Tuesday November 17 th we will be celebrating as a school community our Thanksgiving Liturgy. The annual Craft Fair will take place on December 5 th ; there is a link on the left navigation pain in the newsletter that will bring you to information about volunteering and attending. The week of December 9-11 each class will celebrate with their own advent liturgy culminating on Friday December 11 when the Freshman will have their advent liturgy and student council installation. For advent resources and recommendations on how to celebrate Advent and the Christmas Season in your home click the link to the left labeled Advent resources. Our marching eagles and cheerleaders will be marching in both the West Chester Parade on Friday March 4 th and the Downingtown parade on Saturday December 12 th. Finally before we break for the Christmas celebration with our families we will have two very special assemblies. On December 17 th the student body will get a taste of the Christmas Concert in an afternoon matinee and on December 22 they will be inspired by a liturgical lessons and carols. Everyone in the community is invited to the Christmas Concert and Art Expo on Friday December 18 th at 7:30pm. During the first quarter we have seen the work of the Lord s hands through the many talents of our students. In the last newsletter I gave you a synopsis of the events that were lined up for the months of October and November. Today I share with you the great successes that have come out of those events. Please enjoy the images below, I would not be able to put together such beautiful pictures without the help of Mr. Hetherington, thank you Mr. Hetherington for always being there with the camera ready to capture these great moments. Thank you and may we all be thankful for the blessings that we have been granted and may we pray as a community for those who may be less fortunate. The Bishop Community Serves Others: Forty-seven members of the Bishop Shanahan "Respect Life Club" attended the "Archdiocesan Fall High School Conference and Rally" at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary on November 12th. This year's theme was "Embracing the Pro-Life Message" "It's okay to stand up for what's right. Even when it's not popular." The Bishop Shanahan Community Service Corps (CSC) collected a total of 531 jars of peanut butter and jelly that were brought into school by students. The peanut butter and jelly will be donated to the "Lord's Pantry" in Downingtown.
Shanahan students were asked to bring in leftover Halloween candy. Members of the Community Service Corps bagged the candy, made greeting cards, and are sending the "Goodie Bags" to a military division stationed overseas.
