First Edition: August 2013 Dear EuroParent, Welcome to the first edition of the Newsletter of EuroSchool,Thane. The first two months of the academic year 2013-14 were filled with fun activities and a lot of learning. The students entered into the new year in June with anxiety, keen to meet their new friends and teachers. The new club activities and Inter House Competitions added to their excitement. Many new programs have been added to the curriculum to enhance the teaching-learning process and make it more effective, enriching and interesting. We give you an insight into the happenings in the School in the past two months. Mrs. RajaniPattabhiraman Principal Parent Orientation Program: An orientation program for parents of all students from Grades Jr.Kg. to 7 th was conducted at School in the 2 nd week of June.Parents wereinformed about the enhancements in the Curriculum and introduced to the Faculty. Investiture Ceremony: In a grand ceremony witnessed by proud Parents and Grandparents, the School Senate took their Oath of Office on 8 th July 2013. The Senate was elected to their posts by the students through a democratic Election process. Each student who wished to stand for Elections completed a preliminary questionnaire followed by an interview. The students who cleared this canvassed for their elections for which votes were cast by students through a secret ballot.

Workshops for Teachers The Staff of EuroSchool Thane underwent a series of training workshops under the INSET program. These training programs were aimed at enhancing the skills and providing an edge to the teachers to be able to provide an effective and enriching teaching-learning experience. English Language Skill Development. Classroom Management Techniques. Innovations in Teaching Methodology. Children with Special Needs. Math Lab. Music and Movement. Emotional Intelligence. Multiple Intelligence. Blooms Taxonomy. Phonics. English Workshop on LSRW Skills. Laurels: YasharyanGaikwad from Grade VII was one of the select few to participate in CAMP KSC Space Trek-Mission Robotics at the Kennedy Space Center. Congratulations to AnushkaDhamne from Grade III for securing a rank in the Top 10 in the International SpellBee Competition held at the National level. ArjunDingankar from Grade II stood 2 nd at the State level in the International Mathematics Olmpiad(IMO). Ynez D Souza from Grade II makes us proud as she secured a position in the National under 7 Chess Championship 2013 conducted by Pune district. Alayna Raj of Grade III secured a rank in the Spell Bee Competition at the International Level.

Clubs Several new clubs have been added on for this academic year and students have been enthusiastic participants in the various activities conducted under their aegis. YasharyanGaikwad and PrashantUpadhyay constructed a Robot in the Robotics Club, which can move effectively through rough terrain. Pedagogical Innovations Several events and activities are conducted at school to bring about an effective learning experience and to reinforce the concept being taught in the curriculum. An adaptation on Water-cycle was shown to the children through a play titled Drippy the Raindrop where the movement of water was shown with the help of a short skit. Likewise, a EuroRestaurant was set up to sensitize children in table manners and dining etiquette. The value and importance of being a good friend was taught to the children through a Puppet Show titled Finbo-A True Friend, put up by the teachers. Instilling values in children has been one of the objectives of the EuroSchool curriculum. The pre-primary section held a special assembly on Adaptation and Cooperation during the month. My School Tour The students of the pre-primary section were taken on a School tour to familiarize them to the School Campus.

Resplendent Red Day and Buoyant Blue Day: July 3rd 2013 was celebrated as Red Day and July 31 st as Blue Day by the Pre-primary Section of EuroSchool Thane. The students and the teachers dressed in red and blue coloured apparel on the respective days to add grace to the occasion. The school corridors and play areas were decorated in Resplendent red and Buoyant blue. Articles and objects of the corresponding colours were displayed in the corridors. On the Red Day, children brought in red fruits, flowers, napkins etc to decorate their classrooms. Red coloured balloons added an extra dash of joie de vivere to the classes. On the Blue Day children brought in blue coloured paper boats and sailed them in the splash pool. Incredible India The Pre-primary Section are showcasing our country by making our children aware of the unique and diverse cultures of the different States of India. As on date the States of Goa, Gujarat and Meghalaya have been taken up during a special assembly where presentations are given on the lifestyles and the cultures of the State. The multipurpose hall is decorated in the colours of the State and children are made familiar with the cuisine, traditional attire and the some unique features of the State.

World Music Day Music is the best creation of man. India, with its rich cultural heritage, runs true to this adage and EuroSchool Thane celebrated the International Music Day with a special assembly on 21 st June. A small documentary on World Music and how music breaks all barriers of class, creed, culture or race was shown to the students. Opulent Oceans On the occasion of conserving water. World Oceans day an awareness program was held on the importance of International Tigers Day The Event was celebrated on 29 th July, to raise awareness about the protection of the species. Father s Day and Mum s Day Children celebrated and revered their parents by celebrating Father s Day on 14 th June and Mum s Day on 25 th June. A takeaway was made at school and carried home proudly by all children. Globe Trotting-China As part of the ongoing program to familiarize the students to different countries, students of the Preprimary section visit the mainland of China. The multipurpose hall was decorated and turned into a mini China with Chinese symbols and lanterns. Visitors to the country were issued a passport and Visa and had to pass through the immigration formalities. They were greeted by teachers dressed in the traditional Chinese attire. Students performed the traditional Dragon dance.

Competitions Several Inter-House competitions are being held at school. Handwriting competition was held on 19 th July for Grades II-VII. EuroBards, a group singing competiton was held on 28 th June for Grades I and II. An English Story-telling competition, Euro Tale-Tellers was held on 22 nd July for Grade I. Group dance competition-step-up for Grades I-VII was held on 24 th July. A solo singing competition-euronightingales was held on 26 th July for Grades III- VII. The results of these competitions are put up on the Webgenie. As this newsletter is reaching you, a lot more is happening at the School. The months of August and September are months of festivals and celebrations. Our students are looking forward to the festivities and activities and the fun-filled learning.
